A/N: Paul and Olivia go on a date! Not much happens in this chapter, it's a filler, really. We will finally start to move into the supernatural next chapter.
I also fluffed up the dates in the previously uploaded chapters - I have corrected these now. We start in July 2002 for the prologue, then August 2002 for Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is September 2002 and March 2003.
We are back to Olivia's POV.
As usual, I don't own anything Twilight related, I'm just playing with the Twilight world.
6th March, 2003
I get home from La Push and make a start on dinner with a smile on my face. I'm so happy that Paul actually spoke to me, and he wants to take me out on a date! I turn on the radio and hum along as I make dinner for me and Dad.
A little while later my phone chirps, alerting me to a message. I check who it is from and smile when I see Paul's name on the screen. I open the message quickly.
Hey, I enjoyed talking to you this afternoon. Is tomorrow too soon for that date? - Paul
Tomorrow is great. What did you have in mind? - Olivia
I was thinking we could get food at the diner in La Push and then maybe go for a walk on the beach? - Paul
That sounds perfect - Olivia
Meet you there at 1pm? - Paul
I will see you then - Olivia
Looking forward to it - Paul
Me too - Olivia
I can't believe he wants our date to be tomorrow! I really hope that means that he likes me!
It's not long before Dad gets home and we sit down to dinner.
"What's got you so happy?" Dad asks me.
"Errr... I have a date." I say, blushing.
"A date? Who with? And where?" He asks.
"He's called Paul. He's from the reservation and we're going to the diner there, then the beach." I tell him. "I don't think he has his driver's license yet but he knows I do so he asked me to go there."
"Paul... Paul... Paul Lahote?" He asks. I nod in response.
"He can be a hothead, but that's hardly surprising considering his history. He's a good kid really." Dad tells me.
"You know, Becca and Rach said similar." I say.
"I'm sure they will have heard things with Billy being Chief. I'm sure Paul will tell you himself if things get serious."
"I'm sure he will Dad." I say.
"Tell him if he needs someone to take him out driving to let me know. I'll be happy to help the kid out." Dad tells me.
"Errr okay. I'll let him know." I say, wondering why his parents can't take him.
We finish our dinner and I clean up before saying good night to Dad and heading to my room.
7th March, 2003
I wake up and check the time. 10.13am. I bounce out of bed and head to the bathroom to shower. Once I've finished I dry off and head to my room to look for an outfit.
I spend ages looking through my closet. I want to look nice because it's a date, but still casual since we are just going to the diner and the beach.
I eventually settle on a dark blue pair of skinny jeans, a dark silver off the shoulder flowy top and silver ballet flats. I get dressed and dry my hair. I finish by adding a small amount of make up - just eyeliner, mascara and some tinted lip balm. By the time I'm done it's nearly noon.
I realise I haven't eaten breakfast but then decide to leave it and just eat when I get to the diner. I have butterflies in my stomach from nerves. I didn't really date in Phoenix, and I really like Paul. I want this date to go well.
Eventually it reaches 12.30 and I can't wait any longer to see Paul. I head downstairs and find no sign of Charlie, just a note on the fridge saying he has gone fishing and to enjoy my date.
I leave the house, locking the door and get in my car, then I head to La Push.
I reach the diner just before 1pm and find Paul already outside. When he sees me pull in he comes over to the car, opening the door to help me out.
"Hey." I say, smiling.
"Hey yourself." He says with a cheeky grin.
We head inside and grab a table. We both order a burger with fries and a soda, and make small talk. Like yesterday it is really comfortable and we can talk about anything and everything.
"I'm guessing since you asked me to come to the res you don't have your driver's licence yet." I say. He shakes his head no.
"Not yet. I have my learners permit, I just need to wait until July and get the driving hours done. I've already done everything else." He tells me.
"I was talking to Dad last night at dinner and I said I didn't think you had your licence yet since you asked me to meet you down here. He said if you need someone to take you driving he would."
"Tell him thanks. I'll probably take him up on that."
"Are your parents too busy to take you?" I ask. He looks down at the table and I immediately regret asking.
"Ahh no. They're not around." He tells me.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked." I reply.
He looks up at me then, his expression unreadable. "It's okay, you didn't know. I'll tell you the full story sometime, but not on our first date."
"You mean you want there to be more dates even after that?" I say, embarrassed.
"Hey." He says, reaching across the table and taking my hand. I feel sparks where his skin touches mine. "You didn't know, how could you? It's okay. I would like to go on more dates with you, I really like you."
I smile at him. "I really like you too Paul."
Our food arrives and we eat. When we're finished Paul insists on paying the bill and then I drive us to First Beach. We walk along the water's edge and he takes my hand.
After walking for a while we sit on a driftwood log and talk some more. I find out he's a few months younger than me, but a sophomore like I am. We talk about school and our friends. He tells me about the friends he is usually at the beach with, Chris and Nathan, and I tell him about Brooke and Faye.
"There's also this weird family at school, the Cullens. They started at Forks High when I did. There's 5 kids, Jasper, Emmett and Rosalie who are sophomores, and Alice and Edward who are freshmen." I tell Paul.
"Why do you say they're weird?" He asks, his brow slightly furrowed.
"Well, they're all adopted, by Dr and Mrs Cullen, but they only look like they're in their mid 20's. I suppose if they adopted teenagers then it's possible, but it just seems a little odd to me. I know Jasper and Rosalie Hale are twins and are Mrs Cullens niece and nephew. Apparently she adopted them when their parents died. Rosalie and Emmett are a couple, as are Jasper and Alice. They're all really pale and have golden eyes. They don't talk to anyone outside of their family." I explain.
"They do sound a bit strange." Paul agrees.
We continue talking and telling each other things. I explain why I decided to move to Forks to live with Dad. Paul immediately tells me he doesn't like Renee of Bella just from what I've said about them.
"It's getting late." I say as I check the time and realise it's already after 5pm. "I need to make dinner or Dad will just phone for a pizza. How he managed so long on his own I don't know."
Paul chuckles at me. "Lots of takeaway I guess."
"Yeah, I'm trying to get him to eat healthier." I reply.
We walk back to my car hand in hand.
"Can I give you a ride home?" I ask.
"I actually only live a couple minutes walk from here." He tells me, pointing in the direction of the forest. "I can walk."
"Okay." I say with a nod. We reach my car and I turn to face him.
He brings his right hand up to my cheek and I lean in to the contact. Almost as if in slow motion he leans down and gently presses his lips to mine before pulling away.
"Can I see you again?" He asks. I nod in reply.
"I would like that." I say.
"I'll call you." He replies.
I nod. "I will tell Charlie you would his help with driving too."
"Yeah, tell him thanks for that."
"I will do."
We say our goodbyes and he kisses me again, a little longer this time then I climb into my car and head home, a big smile on my face.
When I get home I make a start on dinner. Dad comes home just as it's ready and we sit down to eat.
"Someone's happy. I take it the date went well?" Dad asks.
I nod. "Really well. We can just talk about anything and everything. We get on so well. I really like him Dad."
"I'm glad it went well kiddo. Just remember, no grandbabies yet." He says.
I choke on my mouthful of food when he says that and look at him wide eyed. I manage to swallow and take a drink of my water.
"Hey, I was a teenager once. Just be careful." He says.
I blush bright red. "No need to worry Dad. Renee beat you to that talk and put me on birth control. I'm sure she was convinced I would be a slut."
"Well... you know... have you?" Dad stutters out.
"No! I never really dated in Phoenix. Too busy paying bills and making sure we were all fed. You know what Renee is like towards me. I think she just did it so she didn't have to think about me and she could concentrate on her favourite." I say. Dad nods in understanding.
"I told Paul what you said about taking him driving for his licence. He said it would be helpful. He told me his parents aren't around but not the full story. He said will tell me though, when he's ready. He just didn't feel it was a good conversation for a first date." I say.
Dad nods in response. "No, definitely not first date conversation."
I furrow my eyebrows. Dad obviously knows quite a bit about Paul's parents. We finish our dinner quietly, then I head upstairs to finish my homework before going to sleep.
