Chapter 2 : Fawkes Village

"Look, there is a dirt road on the distance!" Aozora heard Austina telling that to her in an excited tone.

It's been a few hours since they started walking. It seems like Austina knows how to walk straight inside a forest unlike Aozora who can't distinguish any landmarks in this place.

Aozora was glad that they have finally found a sign of civilization. She was pretty tired walking in the forest all day.

Either path of the dirt road will surely lead them to a town or a village. She was fine with either because she only wants some place to sleep safely.

"Let's go in that direction." So she decided to walk on the right.

"Okay." Austina replied to her before going in the lead again.

They took another long walk to get to a human settlement.

The sky was growing darker when they found a village on the distance.

"Finally, I was getting worried that we will be camping out here." Aozora said with a relief.

The village in the distance is fairly large. Though there are only wooden fences surrounding it and there is one guy wielding a spear who was standing guard on the entrance.

As they got near, the guard looks at them and surprisingly welcomed them.

"Hello travelers. It seems like you are tired." The guard said first. "What is your purpose for visiting this village?" He then asks that with a relaxed tone.

"We are looking for a place to rest. Does this village have a place of resting for a traveller like us?" Austina was the one who get into the conversation.

"Well, we don't have any inns in here. But you can ask the villagers to let you stay on their house." The guard answered to her query.

"Thank you." Austina said before passing the wolf meat to the guard. "Here, a payment for our intrusion." She said to the guard.

"Oh, a meat. And it seems like it came from a Dire Wolf. It's been long since I have a taste of that." The guard said with a laugh. "I'll tell the Village Chief about this."

After that, the guard calls another person to take his post while he goes to the chief to tell him about the new visitors.

Aozora and Austina walks into the village and saw that it have a fair amount of households in it. There is also a large plot of land full of crops on the side of this village. Though it seems like the villagers are already done working on it.

Some villagers waved on their way, which Austina returned back.

"Milady, the people of this village seems to be friendly." Austina said in a good mood.

"Yeah... I can see that." Aozora unconsciously replies as she looks around. "By the way, why did you give the wolf meat at them. I can't understand." She asks in curiosity.

"Well. It's a gift for their willingness to accept us. This village seems to be sustaining themselves with the crops that they grow, so I think eating meat is a luxury to them. That's why I think it was an appropriate gift to this village." Austina explained to her curious master.

"... But I think that meat won't be enough to satisfy this whole village." Aozora said while still feeling confused.

"You don't know? Villages like this tends to share meat at each other in a feast! Or that's what I am used to in my world..." Austina said while muttering the last part as she scratches her head.

"Oh, so you two are the travellers who shared their hunt to us."

The two of them looks behind them and saw an old man being escorted by the guard that let them entered awhile ago.

"I am the Village Chief of this humble village. I welcome you two to the Fawkes Village. I hope you have to wait for awhile as we prepared a feast in the middle of this village." The village chief said to them.

"It was nice meeting you. I am Austina Schloegn, a knight in service of this lady." She introduces herself. "Then this is the lady I serve, Aozora Kamigawa." She said as she pointed Aozora with her hand.

"Oh, so you two are wandering nobles. Sorry if our place is too humble for your bearings." The village chief said with an apologetic tone.

"It was fine. We are satisfied with this already." Austina replied with a wave of her hand.

Aozora was just looking at them talking at each other before looking at the others.

'She really is sociable huh...' Aozora thought to herself.

They are invited to participate in their feast so they are currently sitting in a large opening of this village, surrounding a large bonfire in the center of this village.

Many villagers seems to be using the meat of the wolf and cooking it on the fire.

The people are in a festive mood. Maybe because this is their first time eating meat.

Well, Aozora heard that it was a long time since they have a meat of a Dire Wolf. Most of the time, it was only rabbits or small birds that their hunters can manage to hunt in the forest. Eating wolf meat is pretty rare for them it seems.

Also, it seems like this village does really share the meat to all the villagers in a form of a feast. It seems like this is their form of thanking the nature for having a delicious meal in their plate.

Or in fact, this is just a common sense in this world. Most villages seems to have a shortage of meat so they won't even preserved it. Some villages have a leeway for that though their preservation type is through smoking only.

While she was busy in her thoughts, she saw a stack of meat in a stick being presented in front of her eyes. She looks up and saw Austina there smiling as she handed the meat to her.

She takes it and took a bite of it.

"... It's surprisingly tasty. Though, it felt that it was also lacking." Aozora muttered as she chewed on the meat.

She didn't thought wolf meat have this kind of soft texture. Maybe it was only unique in this world, is what she is thinking.

"Well, there are no seasonings so the taste is lacking." Austina said as she took a seat besides her before eating the handful of meats in her hands.

"No seasonings huh..." She muttered to herself while looking at the remaining chunk of meat in the stick.

After that, she took the remaining meat in her stick before putting the stick on the ground besides her.

"Well then. Let's ask the locals here about the things in this world." Aozora told her plans to Austina.

"Yes, let's!" Austina nodded in agreement.

After that, the two of them talks to the villagers having fun in their meal. It seems like they are limited to only a single stick of meat so all of them can eat. The two of them are an exception because they are a guest of honor.

Going around the village and talking to them gives the two of them some insights in this world.

The name of this kingdom seems to be the Kingdom of Silvia. Or the people here prefers calling this the Silvian Kingdom. It seems like this kingdom is considered an important part of this continent so they are calling it like that.

In the opposite direction where they went is a town called Chloe. And ahead of the direction pass this village is another frontier village. Beyond that seems to be a fort that was made in front of a mountain called the Fork Mountains. It seems like beyond the Fork Mountain is a country that this kingdom was in conflict with.

On the direction to Chloe Town, going beyond it will lead them to the Meister City, which is a large city based on the villagers here. That city seems to have a place called a Dungeon where monsters continuously spawns and many wealth can be obtained.

Hearing that piece of information sets Aozora's plan to that direction.

So after awhile of talking to the villagers, they sit back on the place where they are staying awhile ago.

"Austina-san, I have decided. We will go to Meister City!" Aozora said to the Princess.

"Oh, is it because of the dungeon?" Austina asks.

"Yes. By grinding in that place we can quickly strengthen ourselves!" Aozora said with an excited expression. 'Also, it will be like an idle game where we can just grind and grind and grind on our EXP without stopping!' She thought.

"I see... so it was like the Infinity Tower huh..." Austina said in wonder.

Hearing about that term, Aozora recalled that there is a stage like that in Princess Saga.

Infinity Tower is a place where the players can go and defeat waves upon waves of enemies until they are defeated. That place rewarded the player depending on how far they with their Princesses before they got defeated.

Aozora already check on her Princess Saga but even that stage is not existing in it. She felt really frustrated that the important functions of Princess Saga were missing.

'But that was curious. How come she remembers the Infinity Tower, it wasn't even canon on the main story!' Aozora thought to herself in confusion. 'Also, I think this version of Austina should be at the start of the story, meaning that she shouldn't have any knowledge about the world where she was summoned. So how come she knows a place on Princess Saga when she was the version at the start of the story.' Aozora continued with her thoughts. 'Or maybe... this Austina is not the one at the start of the story, but the one at the ending?' She quickly shook her head. 'That still doesn't explain about her knowledge of the Infinity Tower because it's not canon. Even the developers of the game said that it's not canon!' She thought before taking it out of her mind. 'Well, I'll just think about this next time.' She nodded to herself.

They passed the remaining time on the feast before they finally goes to sleep on a free room from the Village Chief's house.
