Yugi stood and glared. "I don't have time for this right now." He went to move past him. Ushio kicked Yugi's ankle making him yell out as he fell.
"Walk away from me again. I dare you." Ushio growled.
Yugi groaned a bit before started to get up. "You know what? Fuck this." He ignored the pain in his ankle as he stood and punched Ushio. He didn't wait for Ushio to hit back. Lifting his good leg he kicked him in the stomach and let him go down. He stood over him. "Fuck with me again and I will not be as nice next time."
"Yugi?" he heard Atem's voice.
"Fucking shit." Yugi muttered to himself before turning to see Atem standing there. "What?"
"Have you lost your mind? Do you realize who you just did that to?" Atem asked.
"A low life who thought he could give me shit." Yugi said.
"Yugi, that's the dean's son." Atem said.
"Fuck." Yugi muttered. Boy was he screwed. He limped over to Atem. "See ya."
"What? What do you mean 'see ya'?" Atem demanded.
"Well I ain't waitin' around here for him to go rat me out to his daddy. I'm outa here." He continued leaving.
Atem went to him and stopped him. "Yugi stop. Just stop running."
"Why that's all I'm good at." Yugi said glaring up at him.
"Well clearly not." He pointed Ushio.
"That was minor shit." Yugi said.
"Maybe so but if you keep running eventually shit is going to catch up to you."
Yugi rolled his eyes. "Well now you can go run to my mother and explain the delinquent she has for a son." He walked around him and left.
Yugi stared at the ceiling. He'd hidden in some old shack on the edge of town. Perhaps he should leave town all together. Go somewhere else. Somewhere he can hide until he hits 18. He sighed. Anywhere he went his father would find him. Unless… He sat up looked out the window to the woods that were just outside of town. They were acres deep. At least 200. It would be impossible to find him there.
Sighing he laid back down. He was crazy. Live in the woods? How could he do that? Was it impossible? No. But would he be able to do it? Groaning he rolled over. For now he'd spend the night here. In the morning he'd figure it out.
Atem sat in the office his leg bouncing nervously. It'd been 5 days since Yugi ran off and no one could find him. Not the police, not his father, no one. He hated the idea of Yugi out there with no shelter or food. Why didn't the kid get that he was just trying to help?
"Now explain this to me again." The dean said. "He ran off after he had a fight with my son?"
"Yes sir. They fought but when he found out who Ushio was he left. I think he's afraid of being expelled or having charges pressed against him." Atem said.
"Well now there is a much bigger problem. Winter is setting in." he said. "And if he doesn't find a suitable shelter he's at risk of freezing."
"I…" Atem sighed. "I have no idea where he would go though."
The dean sighed. "If you can think of anything let me know."
"Yes sir." Atem nodded. The dean waved him off and he left. "Yugi where are you?" he muttered.
Perhaps his father or mother could have an idea. Or maybe Yugi's mother. Going to his car he got in and started it. He drove to his parents house and turned it off. He sighed. He just wanted to help this kid. But instead he made the kid prefer risking hypothermia.
He was about to get out when he heard something fall in his back seat. Blinking he looked back to see Yugi asleep on hi back seat. What the hell?
"Yugi?" he put a hand on the boy's shoulder before pulling it back. Shit he was ice cold. "Yugi wake up."
Yugi groaned before he slowly opened his eyes. He looked up at him weakly before his eyes closed again.
"Shit." Atem got out before going to the back and opening it. He lifted Yugi and held him close. Yugi's entire body was shaking and the kid was freezing. He struggled a bit as he wrapped Yugi in his own coat and took him in the house. "Mom! Mom help!" He went to the sitting room glad the fire place was lit. He sat on the floor and held Yugi close.
His mother and father ran in. Asi gasped before running over to them. She placed her hand on Yugi's cheek. "He's ice cold. Honey we need the electric blanket." She told her husband
"Of course dear." He said before going.
"Atem what happened?" she asked.
"He's been missing for 5 days mom. No one could find him. I was on my way here and parked out front. That's when I found him in the back seat. What do we do? His bastard father is searching for him." Atem said.
"Atem watch your mouth." She scolded.
"I'm sorry but he abuses Yugi so much. We can't let Yugi go back to him." Atem said.
"We won't." Aknomkanon said as he entered. He gave them the blanket. Asi laid it over Yugi and turned it on low. She didn't want to suddenly over heat him.
"Baby lay him down." She said.
Atem shook his head. "I'm not letting him go." He held him tight. "Not again."
"Shh ok baby." She kissed his head. "Honey start whatever you need to do to keep Yugi safe."
"Yes dear." He nodded before going.
Atem gulped as he held Yugi close. "Yugi." He muttered.
Asi sighed as she stood. "Atem keep him close. I'll go speak to his mother."
"Yes mom." He nodded.
Yugi groaned. He began waking up and looked up at Atem. Half tempted to push him away, but instead he gave in and curled up closer to him. He was so cold it hurt.
"Yugi." Atem whispered. "Rest. I have you now. You're safe here. I promise."
Yugi glanced at him again before letting his eyes close again. Why was he so cold? He wanted to be warm. "C-cold."
"Ok. Here I'll turn this up a little." Atem turned the blanket up to medium.
Yugi nodded and let himself fall back asleep.
Atem sighed.
"Baby how's he doing?" Asi came in.
"He's warming up. He woke up once but didn't move. And it didn't take long for him to pass back out." Atem said. He was roasting. Between the blanket and the fire he felt like his body was at 100 degrees. But he wouldn't let go of Yugi. He didn't want him waking up on the floor. Yugi deserved better than that.
"Ok. I spoke with his mother. She agrees. We won't let him go back to that man." She said. "Your father has him under protective custody here. He is safe here and under our custody until the court date."
"Thank you so much mom." Atem said.
"Now about his ankle." She went to it. "Oh dear. It's bad. I will have our doctor look it over."
Atem nodded.
"Baby you did great today. I am very proud of you." Asi smiled at him.
"I just want him safe." He said softly.
"Of course. And he is now." She said.
Yugi woke up some time later feeling much warmer than he was before. He looked up at Atem. "Atem?"
"Hey." Atem said softly.
"What…where.." he asked confused. He looked down to see himself being cradled by Atem. "What are you doing?"
"Sorry. I just didn't want you alone. And I found you freezing." Atem said setting him down. Yugi sat up and looked around.
"We're at your house?" Yugi asked.
"Yes well someone hid in my car." Atem said. "That reminds me, how did you get into my car?"
"Your back window was cracked so I picked it and climbed in." Yugi shrugged getting up. He stumble a little feeling dizzy and weak.
"Whoa easy there." Atem stood and caught him before he could fall. "When was the last time you ate?"
"Don't know." Yugi muttered.
"Here." Atem sat him on the couch. "I'll have someone bring you food."
"I have to…to.." Yugi dozed.
"Stay awake ok." Atem said. He called a servant. "Bring me food for him. Something warm. And some water." The servant nodded and quickly left.
Yugi leaned on Atem. "My father.."
"Will not get you here." Aknomkanon said entering with Asi.
"Yugi. You're awake." She went to him. "Feel warmer?"
Yugi nodded. He looked up at Atem's father. "Why not?"
"Because you are under our custody until a hearing. Yugi I want the truth. How long has he been abusing you?" Aknomkanon asked.
Yugi gulped. "Its not really…abuse. Its um training."
"Do not lie to me again." Aknomkanon ordered harshly.
Yugi cringed slightly. He hated that tone. He looked down. "As long as I can remember sir." He muttered.
"Well not anymore. I will not allow him to win this hearing. And then we will make it so he loses as much as we can." He said.
"But why?" Yugi asked. "Why help me?"
"Because sweetheart you deserve to be taken care of." Asi said looking him over. "A doctor is coming to look at your ankle."
Yugi blushed slightly at being called sweetheart. He was anything but that.
"I will be getting everything from the school for you as well." Asi said.
"But the fight." Yugi said.
"Was already handled as well. The dean knows how his son is. He was never planning on expelling you." Aknomkanon said. "For now you will be doing school here."
"And I'll stay home as well." Atem said.
"Baby-" Asi started.
"No mom. I have to." Atem said.
She studied him for a moment before nodding.
The servant came back and gave him food. Yugi glanced at Atem's parents before they nodded and he began to eat. He was so glad to finally have something in his stomach.
Atem watched him. He was not about to leave Yugi. He would take care of him. Whether the boy liked it or not. Yugi was not going to be abandoned or abused again.
Yugi sat at the table as he did his over due work. The school was sworn to secrecy on his location. They were not allowed to give his location to his father and boy was he thankful for that. He wasn't fond of all the attention he was getting though. Asi was always checking on him and Atem was there from morning to night. He was just glad he had his own room.
"Master Yugi." A servant got his attention. "I have your lunch sir." He set down a plate.
"Uh thanks." Yugi said before eating. Everything was so weird. At home he barely ate. His father barely spoke to him unless it was a criticism or punishment. Here everyone seemed to want to know how he was. At home his father didn't care for his well being.
"Yugi you feeling ok?" Atem's voice came.
"Fine." Yugi shrugged. 'Leave me alone.' He thought
"How's your work going?" Atem asked.
"It's fine I guess." Yugi shrugged again.
"Um ok." Atem said. "Do you wanna maybe do something later?"
"Like?" Yugi asked.
"We could go see a movie or something." Atem shrugged.
Yugi thought. "It couldn't hurt I guess."
Atem smiled. "Awesome. I'll let you know what time."
Yugi watched him leave. He just agreed to a date with Atem. No. No way it was a date. He didn't date. It was just easier not to. They were just going to see a movie and that was it. Not a date.
So then…if it wasn't a date… Why did he feel so giddy?
