Part Four

Matt leaned back against the side of the Land Rover with his Glock gripped readily. He looked over at Chastity and smiled. "Nice shooting, Tex! I don't buy his reason for being here! He must have some connection to the Yagami family."

Chastity nodded. "He called himself 'The Hand of Kira'. You told me Mello suspected someone on the Kira Task Force had a connection to Kira, but whose left if the former chief of the NPA is dead? Is there another family member?"

"Mello didn't say. He lured Kira to California with Sayu Yagami because he suspected the new 'L' was playing everyone for fools and with Soichiro's Yagami on the task force, Mello drew the conclusion the rest of their members would come. I think Kira is alive and he sent this guy to eliminate us in revenge for the former NPA Chief."

Chastity checked her rifle. "That doesn't make sense. Kira hates the task force, he'd want to thank Mello for killing one of its members and taking the heat off him. Kira must want to kill us just for being associated with Mello."

"My thinking, too," Matt said. "If Kira has the ability to 'warp' someone like that guy here like that, we should just forget the operation and get the hell out of here!"

Chastity nodded. "You've finally smartened up. Good thing we came prepared. But we'll need a distraction, so I can get things ready. I'll need a minute or two."

"Leave it to me," Matt said with a large smile. "And when we back, I want you to do that thing with your tongue." He winked. "It brought shivers down my spine."

Chastity rolled her eyes. "Just don't die, idiot," she said with a soft smile.

Matt smiled back. "We Wammy kids don't die so easily. Trust me, I don't plan in getting shot like some dog in the street."

Matt moved over and then opened the back door. Inside was a cache of weapons, but he only took out a box with grenades. He looked back inside the rear wide compartment of the Land Rover and saw what Chastity would be getting ready. She picked this vehicle for a reason and Matt was glad she did.

But their deposit was shot to hell, he knew.

He plucked out a couple of grenades and clipped them to his vest, holding one in his hand. It was like wearing a bomb vest. Yet, it would be the perfect incentive for this Hand of Kira not to fire on him or the entire area would be set ablaze. The cabin will go sky high. He'd be dead, but…so will their enemy.

"Time to bring out the crazy," Matt said.

From a tactical standpoint, Light knew he was in a better position. He didn't have his assault weapon anymore, but it was useless now anyhow. He wondered who that woman was, yet he only had a fake name—"Chastity".

It didn't matter. He had defeated L, he rescued Sayu, crushed Mello—these intruders were a walk in the park. And he vowed to make them both pay!

But who were they? From the vehicle and weapons they possessed, the pair weren't just some random intruders, they were here for a purpose. Allies of Mello? Were they here to finish the job that Mello started? Finish off Sayu for Mello's injuries? Mello killed his father, but there was no way he was going to let whoever this couple was murder the rest of his family.

The bleeding from his hand stopped. He wrapped it with a stretch bandage from a small first aid kit he brought with him just in case and put his glove back on. The wound didn't deter the grip of his gun. He peaked out from behind a large spruce tree and saw an unbelievable sight. Matt came out from behind the Land Rover and he had clipped grenades all over his the vest he wore. He held one in his hand, his other hand empty.

One good shot and the guy would be history, but there was something more sinister about it. Light knew if he tried, not only would Matt be blown to bit, but it could set off a chain reaction with the other grenades and set everything in the area ablaze, including the Land Rover. It would also destroy the cabin.

Light didn't know where his mother and Sayu were at the moment, the large van his mother was using to transport Sayu with her wheelchair wasn't here, but they had no plans to return home any time soon. He figured, they were either out for a scenic drive or his mother went out for supplies with Sayu.

"Hey, asshole!" came Matt, his hands up. "Come on, take a shot at me. I dare ya!"

Light weighed his options, but then left his hiding spot with his gun in hand, pointed at Matt. He gave a sideways glance to Matt's partner who was now lowering a ramp from the rear of the Land Rover. It had a large compartment to house something that needed a ramp. And off-road bike, perhaps? Or something else?

Light focused his attention back to Matt. "Stupid," Light said.

"Shoot me and find out how stupid your actions would be if you did," Matt rebuked.

Light witnessed Matt's partner pull forward a miniature ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) from the rear compartment of the Land Rover and coasted it down the ramp, she then unfolded its handle bars compressed against the seat, then proceeded to open it up further, making it larger from its compact version to store within the Land Rover.

Light was impressed.

Matt turned momentarily, then quickly looked back. He said, "I can sense you're admiration for Chastity's handiwork. I was a little hesitate with the Land Rover, but it has amazing room for storage once the rear sears fold down, the ATV fits cozily."

Light said nothing.

"Now, about you—tough guy," Matt addressed. "I want to know who you are before we leave. Take off the mask. And tell me how you appeared. How did you get here? The Einstein–Rosen Bridge is only a theory."

Light cocked his head surprised. "You're not as dumb as you look," he said.

Matt frowned, then said, "In 1935, Einstein and physicist Nathan Rosen used the concept of general relativity to propose the existence of 'bridges' through space-time. These so-called bridges connect two different points in space-time, theoretically creating a shortcut that could reduce travel time and distance."

"Correct," Light said.

"Can Kira create these bridges?"

"Kira is a god. Kira can accomplish miracles. Cleansing the world isn't the only thing Kira can do."

Ryuk chuckled.

"You sound just like him," Matt said. "Brainwashed by Kira. You really should consider a change in career, Hand of Kira, because your boss will soon get a rude awakening when he's exposed for the fraud he is."

"Oh, really? Do tell. You can't escape Kira, no one can. So, try as you might. Fight the good fight. But in the end, Kira will rule the world with an iron fist."

"The Iron Curtain fell with the Soviet Union, pal. And Nazi Germany is gone forever. Maybe, one day, China may threaten the world, but that's a long way off."

"Kira will control it all," Light said. "You can't stop him."

The sound of the ATV starting up filled the area with a loud, monstrous noise. Matt turned, and smiled, as Chastity prepared with last minute preparations.

Light knew he had to do something to stop them, but with Matt dressed up in explosives, there was little he could do—unless he wanted to die in a fiery explosion? Light didn't. So, he weighed his narrowed options and then came up with a solution.

Matt turned back. "So, now we come to the end," he said. Pulling out a Glock gun from a thigh holster, he pointed it at Light. Light's gun was next to useless. If he fired at Matt, he feared in hitting one of the grenades. "Time for the big reveal. Unmask, buddy."

Chastity said, "Matt! Let's go! I set the explosive device for sixty-seconds!"

Explosive? Light thought. In the Land Rover? Shit!

Matt shrugged his shoulders. "Well, seems you've suffered a reversal of fortune, huh?" he said. "I would've liked to see your face, Hand of Kira, but things don't always have a way of working out. We came to take revenge on Soichiro's Yagami's family for what he did to Mello, but they're not here. Lucky them, eh? Kira smiles upon them."

"Matt! Come on!" Chastity shouted over the ATV.

"Yeah! I'm comin'!" Matt replied. Then said, "Just so you know, Hand of Kira, The left side of Mello's face looks like melted cheese from the explosion that nearly took his life. I'll take satisfaction in incinerating his lovely forest get-away instead."

"Bastard!" Light shouted. "Mello took an innocent girl hostage to get to Kira!"

"Sometimes you have to be a villain to catch a villain," Matt said darkly. "Too bad Kira didn't make an appearance here. From what I was told Kira's power isn't as omnipotent as he wants the public to believe. You see, we know about Shinigami. And they're not the fabled creatures fantasy stories depict. They're quite real."

Light knew Mello knew about Shinigami. In fact, he demanded the Death Note from the Kira Task Force. Once Mello recovered, he would be a dangerous adversary.

Suddenly, a shot rang out. One that sounded like a thunderclap.

Light screamed and dropping his handgun. He fell to his rear and clutched his left thigh. He felt the hot piercing of a bullet in muscle, enough to penetrate his tactical armour. Matt had shot him with an armour piercing bullet with his Glock.

Matt approached and then kicked Light gun away and out of reach.

He put his gun under Light's chin, his eyes glowering with hate. "Be this a lesson to you, Hand of Kira—for the short time that you have left. Kira will rule the day he came to this world. If your god is watching us now, may he learn something from this, too. No one fucks with W House! There are consequences of the fallen."

Matt shoved Light with a boot and Light fell back. The pain in his thigh generated intense searing pain throughout his body.

Matt rushed away, and hopped onto the back of the ATV behind Chastity. With a twist of her wrist of the hand controls, the ATV raced off on a dirt worn path, leaving the Land Rover, and set to go off with explosives.

"Nooo!" Light screamed.
