A Family Reunion:
The Letter:
Dear Ms. Borden,
My name is Ilena Borden-Chefkov. I am your daughter. You gave me up for adoption when I was just a baby so I do not know if you even remember me nor if you care. I am writing this letter to you to let you know that I kept my last name given to me at birth. I wanted to always be connected to you somehow and my parents didn't seem to mind. They thought it was a good idea. I am 22-years-old now and have a four-year-old daughter. I would like to tell her about her biological grandmother but as I know nothing about you, I cannot. My parents told me I was adopted when I was six, as they didn't not want me to wonder why I had two last names, none of which had anything to do with their family.
I hope this letter reaches you in time as my daughter and I will be moving back to my home town in a few weeks. I emailed this letter to the adoption agency in hopes that they would send it on to you. I hope that we can meet, but as I do not know where you live, I hope you will have the courtesy of coming to my home instead of having me travel to yours. As I said earlier, my daughter and I are moving to my hometown, where I grew up as a child before my family decided my life would be more blessed if we traveled all over.
Guess they were partially right in figuring that out. My parents were friends with the Bartlet family as their ranch was our neighbor when I was a child. I do not know if you know them, but I am told that you reside in Canada, though I am not sure which providence you reside in. My hometown is in Hudson, Alberta. My daughter and I will be resuming our business of running a wild animal sanctuary as we can no longer stay where we are at at the moment.
Please let me know if you get this letter as I will be most appreciated by it. My number is with the Agency if you wish to get ahold of me. If not, then I understand wholeheartedly why you would not. But, please do consider getting to know your granddaughter. She so wishes to get to know her biological grandparents and any uncles or aunts she might have.
Sincerely,
Ilena Borden-Chefkov
A Call From The Adoption Agency:
Lily had called the adoption agency shortly after arriving home from Heartland. They had sent her the letter that had been emailed to them and as she finished reading it, she knew that she had to go back to Heartland Ranch. It wasn't that she didn't think Ty wouldn't want to know, it was more of the fact that she knew that the Bartlett's probably knew the Chefkov family from what the letter had said. But Lily decided to wait a few days in order for Ty some time to cool off. He needed some time to think things through and she knew that the only way for him to do that was if she wasn't around him. She wasn't expecting the Adoption Agency to call her back but when her phone rang, she answered it.
"This is Lily Borden."
"Mrs. Borden, this is Maria Cortez, a Social Worker with the Adoption Agency that you used. I was wondering what I should say to the young woman in question? I believe you received the letter that was sent to us via the daughter you gave up for adoption. She called us early in the day and was wondering what your response was."
"Yes, I have read the letter and I would like to meet her. I talked with my son and told him and about her but he's going to need some time to cool off as he was kind of angry that I gave his twin sister up for adoption. When does she want to meet?"
"She has some things she has to get done on her property before she can meet anyone. She was going to go over and get a horse that she was boarding with a neighbor but then she said that she would be free to meet at a time that is in your convenience."
"Well, if you will let her know that I have an open schedule through the weekend that would be appreciated. I was going to go back to see my son this weekend, he also lives in Hudson and you can tell her I'd be glad to meet her in town somewhere."
"I will let her know your decision and let her know what we talked about. Please, don't hesitate to call if you have any questions."
"I won't and thank you Ms. Cortez."
"You're welcome Mrs. Borden. Goodbye and have a nice day."
"You too, goodbye.
The call lasted only ten minutes but it was enough to know that her daughter really did want to meet her and it didn't matter that she wouldn't be able to do it for a few days, since that gave Ty some time to cool off.
