The Trickster God
The middle:
Laufey
There was never much of anything useful in Jotunheim. It is a cold and barren world with very little sunlight and almost perpetual winter.Odin took the Casket of Ancient Winters, deprived us of our power. Our realm began to decay and break apart, the full force of the Bifrost could rip it apart.
There wasn't much to do in Jotunheim.A lot of time to plot revenge.Make plans.I knew they would never come through. No chance of killing Odin would ever come knocking on my door. Not that I had a door. Legions of half-witted Giants, none of them could put it back in place after they broke it.
A decaying king, in a decaying kingdom. I can count the number of intelligent life on this planet in one hand. One, me. I would give anything to kill Odin. The shame of losing the Casket and staying king. Not even to kill me after the battle was lost. At least dethrone me or something.
I hear a cough.
"You know, the convergence is coming soon. It's, like, the golden excuse for frost giants just walking into Asgard. Everyone would nod and agree, as if it makes complete sense."
I get up from my throne. My ice spear forms itself in my hand.
"Who are you? What do you want? I will kill you if you move!"
"Do you want to be your own boss? I am Loki Odinson, and I can teach you how to get the revenge you've been dreaming of in four easy steps!"
"What the actual fuck are you talking about? Wait, did you say "Odinson"?"
"Yes, but that is not important right now. The important thing is that I will get you inside Asgard while Odin sleeps. And, if you want, you can throw in a war for free!"
"How? I will let you speak, but know that, if I don't like what you have to say, I will kill you!"
"Like I said, four easy steps for your financial independence!"
Odinson speaks like he knows I won't kill him. I would give anything for my dreams to come true, but how can I trust this boy? He is the son of the man I want to kill, what have Odin done to turn his son against him.
"Step one: You chose the stupidest soldiers of your army. I will let them into Asgard. This happens on the day of my brother's coronation. They aim for the vault to try and retrieve the Casket of Ancient Winters. They will fail. But don't worry, this is step one."
If my face looks as stupid as he sounds, I must look realy stupid.
"You want me to send my people to their death?"
"Yes, but the stupid ones, you don't even like them."
"They are all imbeciles. Keep going…"
"Step two: My brother will be enraged, he will petition for a war. Odin will deny him. He will come here for answers anyway, he will bring me. When he asks how the giants got in, you say the convergence is approaching, a bridge between the worlds appeared and the designated group got in. You insult him, he becomes furious and attacks. The All-father comes and saves the day."
"How will Odin know you are coming?"
"I'll tell him."
"How can I best affront the princess?"
"That is perfect!"
"Then I can kill Odin?
"Nooo! Aren't you listening? This is only step two!"
"So go on then. Does every time you tell a story take this long?"
"Pretty much, yeah…" Great, this is going great "So… Step three: You tell my father that the only way your truce can be maintained is if Thor gets banned. He will be furious, it will be brilliant. He will ban my brother. This will upset him so much he will fall into Odin Sleep."
"Step four: You get in and kill him. Any questions?"
"Why are you doing this? He is your father, if you betray your own blood, how can I trust you won't betray me?"
He smiles. Loki starts to turn blue. His eyes are red and the typical lines of a frost giant appear on his face. Things start to make sense.
"That is the thing, he is not my father. I am not betraying my own blood. I am not betraying you, father."
"The weakling survived. It wasn't personal, that is how Jotunheim works. You didn't grow much, though. If I had raised you, your peers would have killed you. They kill each other for less. Leaving you as a baby was mercy."
"I don't care about that, I care for the fact that Odin never told me. That he took me as a trophy, just like he takes war spoils. He dies, Thor is banned, the throne is mine. I don't need to be the king of this wasteland with half-witted giants. You don't even have a door."
"I'll take the war. You said you would throw a war in for free. You take the throne and we fight. I haven't had this much excitement in a thousand years. You like to play games, Odin doesn't. He'd kill me before the fun started."
"Just don't touch my mother, she is off limits."
"It sounds like a deal, Loki Laufeyson."
The Trickster God
He gave me a script. The cheek of this adolescent is astronomical. I have to admit, it is well written. Makes me sound tough and evil. I like that. I turn my attention to the three soldiers in front of me. They look more like trolls than giants. I feel stupid just by being near them.
"Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to invade Asgard and return The Casket of Ancient Winters to our possession. An infiltrated agent will get you in. Should any of you be captured or killed I will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim."
I don't know who Jim is, or what a tape was, but Loki had said I'd have more fun following the script. It didn't cost me anything. They look at me like I was the stupid one.
"Just go get the casket…" I had to deal with this everyday.
The Trickster God
The shine of the Bifrost could be seen from my balcony. They would be here any minute now.
"Okay, we practiced this."I scream to the giants at the plaza below me."Everyone take your places, no chit chat, look menacing!"
They come walking. My Frost Giants are in the shadows and crevices, surrounding them on all sides. The Asgardians reach for the hilts of their weapons. A Jotun Sentry calls to the leader of the group, Thor.
"What is your business here, Asgardian?"
"I speak only to your King. Not to his foot soldiers."
The group is tense, apart from Thor. Loki seems the most anxious, he is a brilliant actor. Oh, that is my queue.
"Then speak. I am Laufey, King of this Realm."
"And I am…" I cut him.
"We know who you are, Odinson. Why have you brought the stench of your blood into my world?"
"I demand answers. How did your people get into Asgard?"
"You are in unfamiliar territory, surrounded by enemies. You are in no place to make demands. But I will entertain you, before I kill you and your little friends. A fenomenon approaches, the Convergence. A cosmic event that occurs approximately every 5,000, when all Nine Realms are placed into alignment. It opens invisible wormholes that allow matter to move between realms seemingly open and close at random."
The party exchanges a puzzled look, disturbed by my words. Thor makes a move in my direction. The guard moves in front of me. Loki moves next to his brother and quietly implores. He wants to fight. Just one more push.
"Let us go brother. We have the answers we were looking for."
"Yes, listen to your brother. Run home to your daddy, little princess."
In one quick move, Thor pulls Mjolnir, swings it, and Knocks the Jotun clear across the plaza. The Asgardians reluctantly draw their weapons, gathering into a circle around Thor. Ice forms on the Jotuns' bodies, creating the frozen armor around them, extending off the ends of their arms into their swords.
All hell breaks loose as I just seat back and observe. The Asgardians defeat one giant after the other. They are good, but soon they will be overwhelmed. Anytime now Odin will appear.
Loki backs away from an approaching Jotun, finds himself at the edge of a deep crevasse. The Giant sees he's vulnerable, swipes at him. But the Jotun's arm passes right through him. The Giant stands there, confused, when the real Loki comes out from behind a structure and shoves the Giant into the crevasse below. The false Loki dissipates into nothingness.
One of the warriors gets impaled by an ice dagger. Loki runs at him and starts to heal him. Thor continues fighting, his blood lust rising. He taunts the Jotuns around him.
"Come on."
As he throws his hammer one of the giants surrounding try to grab it. Of all the stupidities I have seen today, that takes the crown. The idiot is carried by the hammer to the skies. It's time to pull out the big guns.
I touch the wall of the palace. An energy wave sweeps from my touch, across the structure, and down to the ground below. The Asgardians hear the foreboding crack of ice below their feet.
"This will be interesting." Loki says.
They look down, suddenly filled with dread when they see shadowy figures moving in the ice… Dozens of Jotun Warriors awakening beneath the surface, rousing to join the battle. Loki turns to his brother, who battles a group of the Giants.
"Time to go, brother!"
"Then GO! I don't need you!"
"There are too many of them!" The woman screams.
"I can stop them!"
The group flees back toward the inner edge of the planet as the Giants break up through the ice and give chase. Thor keeps on battling, but there's just too many of us. The Frost Giants swarm him from all sides now, as he disappears beneath a pile of blue flesh and ice. Lightning flows, taking multiple targets at a time. But that cracks the ice beneath their feet. Stupid boy.
"What's Thor done?" The fat one cries.
"Likely killed us all!" Loki screams as he runs from the opening on the floor.
The God of Mischief had a solid plan. Maybe he didn't account for the lack of brains of his brother. He said Odin would show up and save the day. Looks like he will be following the destiny I tried to set for him. Dying in the cold of this planet. It is a shame.
The Giants move in for the kill, when they hear a deafening roar. A hole in the sky opens up, and the Bifrost blasts down onto the inner edge of the planet. Out of the maelstrom comes the sound of thundering hooves, and, to the shock of all, tearing across the frozen wasteland comes Odin.
I see Loki with a poorly hidden grin on his face. He looks at me with a face that says "See, I told you". I laugh. Odin is in his steed, the eight legged one. Gungnir in his hand. The weapon that could kill with one beam of its power. An imposing sight.
My Giants part in fear as he thunders into our ranks, stopping before me and the Asgardians. I slam my fists into the ground, and the ice beneath my feet raises me towards Odin. The Asgardians start to react, thinking it's an attack, but is not. Loki emphasized that, no matter how weak he looked, Odin would still beat the shit out of me.
"Laufey. End this." The old man demands. Your end is coming, just you wait.
I laugh one more time. "Your boy sought this out. I gave him an exit. He didn't take it."
"You're right. These are the actions of a boy. Treat them as such. You and I can stop this before there's further bloodshed."
"I demand satisfaction, if you punish him accordingly, the truce will continue. The choice is in your hands All-father. Banish the boy, he is not fit to be king, or declare the war. Blood or peace, it is on you." Loki nods at me. This line is a killer, maybe I should be an actor, not a king. Nah, I like to order and kill people.
Odin raises his spear. The hole in the sky opens, the Bifrost energy blasting forth from it. The rainbow colours envelop the Asgardians, yanks them off the ground and up through space. The vortex closes behind them as all falls silent.
"Good job everyone! Our part is done, now we wait and kill Odin. Amazing performances!" I congratulate them.
"Dave is dead, they are all dead… My brothers, my mother. I'm all alone…"
"Shut up. I need a drink."
The Trickster God
A/N
I'll keep this chapter length, thanks for the everyone that answered.
"kyro232" I think he gets more and more different as I go. I didn't watch Dragon Slayer, but my Loki likes kaboom.
"Victor Ebone","marsolino","genes89","ILoveBlueAndRice" There you go, thank you for reading.
"Justanotherfan" Good plan.
"Guest101" and "DBZfan45" I don't think it will be a Loki X Sif. I don't have any plans for this story, so no pairing. But I always thought Sif was underused in the franchise. She always saw Thor's flaws and Loki issues, which makes me believe she would see past Loki's indifference mask.
"stylo1" where do I start, I don't know if you'll be coming back, but I wanna say that I appreciate the review, for real. English is indeed my second language, the main reason I decided to write this was so that I could haul out my rusty English. I didn't mean a different language, I meant in a way of "Where did my three year old learn to say fuck off". On the magic vs sorcery, thank you, I didn't know that. In the first chapter I said that I should have chosen someone I knew better. I fixed a few things on the formation part.
"spaceman89" and "stylo1"(again) It is what "M2R" said, I didn't know how to teach humility to Thor in any other way. This is the way I found to change a bit more. This isn't a fully planned out story, so sticking a bit with canon allows me to go further without losing myself. I'll try to change more as times go. Don't leave me.
I don't care if you don't like the size of my notes, I wanna talk to all of y'all. 7 docs pages.
