A fire bristled just outside through the doorway of the house. Stars shown over Eren as he tended to the fire, preparing a small batch of soup from some ingredients from his pack. He had previously rummaged through their little house for anything useful and got lucky with a pot. Levi stirred a little, seeing the boys silhouette out the door way. He shivered under the thin blanket, woken by the cold. 'Eren?' He called meekly. 'Oh, captain' Eren turned toward the small voice, the fire illuminating half his face. 'Captain I made some food' He approached the soldiers bed.
'Okay.' Levi began to get up only to wince in pain. 'No, no stay here, I'll bring it to you' Eren gently placed a hand on Levi's chest, easing him to lay back down. Levi gave Eren a weird glance as he lowered himself, making Eren's hand leave as fast as it came. Eren shuffled away quickly, realising he may have crossed an unseen and ever so blurring line.
He came back to Levi with a small bowl of steaming stew. Eren pulled over a dingy wooden chair from the side of the room and sat parallel to Levi. He was dimly lit by a small candle sitting on a far table. Levi struggled to hold himself up, grumbling in low complaints and huffs of air. He's probably not going to be able to eat very easily, Eren worried. Once he'd settled, Levi began to reach for the small bowl. But before he could get there, Eren scooped up some soup and brought it towards Levi's mouth. It's a very hesitant action, one that Levi was very much startled by. But after a moment, Levi obliged and ate the stew. Definitely not the best soup he's ever had, Levi thought, but turned to Eren once more anyway.
The air that hung between them became less tense as Eren fed Levi. Levi glanced up into the boys emerald eyes. 'Thank you Eren' He looked at Eren with a calm yet grateful expression. Eren coughed a little, 'It's no problem' he says softly, his face rising in heat but luckily with the darkness he was pretty sure Levi couldn't tell.
Once the bowl was empty Eren returned to the fire, pouring himself some. Levi shivered back into his thin covers, the air wispy as he breathed. Eren scarfed his bowl, happy to finally being able to eat something and relax. After a day of constantly worrying if the titans would return and about Levi being mad at him, it was nice to take a load off. He looked up to the stars, thanking the gods that titans couldn't move at night. Despite his safety, Eren thought it would probably be best if he stayed outside and tended to the fire for the night. He didn't want to crowd the Captain or anything, and plus there was no other beds so it's not like he could sleep inside.
A cool wind passed through Eren. He huddled towards the fire, holding his hands close to the glowing flame. 'Eren come sleep with me.' said a voice from inside the house. Eren turned towards the captain with wide eyes. 'What?' was all he could manage. 'I'm going to freeze to death, come sleep next to me' Eren thought for a moment, sleeping in a bed would be much more pleasant then just sitting next to a fire all night, trying not to dose off. But in a bed with the Captain? He didn't know if he was ready for that one. 'What if I kick you or something?' He asked back simply. Levi gave a small chuckle. 'Just get your ass in here its cold.
Eren, hardly believing the situation, stamped out the fire until nothing but dark ash remained, and blew out the small candle on the way to the bed. Levi awkwardly shuffled to the side, careful to not bend his leg. The bed was very small, leaving Eren little room to work with. Eren began to slide off the belts he still had hung on to his body. Levi watched as his fingers moved, whether he realised it or not. 'Are those my belts?' He asked hoarsely, brushing his fingers over his own beltless legs. 'Oh, yes they are. I'm sorry I didn't have mine and I wanted to be prepared in case the titans came back.' Eren trailed on. 'It's fine brat, stop rambling, just get in here.' With Eren's very red face, he slid under the covers. /
With the size of the bed, it was inevitable that his and Levi's arms would be touching. Levi was right though, he was really cold. Eren shifted to be laying on his side to that he could be fully on the bed. But he then realised that he was awkwardly not staring at Levi. Levi gave out a breath through his nose of amusement. Eren tried to tilt his head in a way that made it seem like he wasn't looking directly at the captain but the situation really couldn't be helped.
As the minuets crawled by, the pair found themselves leaning into each others warmth, even if it was just a little.
