As I said before in the first chapter, I am literal trash and update once in a blue moon. I had started this chapter back last March and you know... Covid. Safe to say I did not get up to writing much more because I'm a human with unbalanced emotions :) So I'm just going to post what I had written despite it being short and start on the next one.
"I am Speaking"
'I am thinking'
I am having an intelligent conversation with a sentient box (Debatable).
Chapter 4: Harry The Alien.
It was safe to presume that the people on this ship did not trust him. That is to say, they also did not…not trust him. Harry glanced around in the small circular room they were currently in. Mickey was glancing between Rose and the Time Lord while shooting Harry weirded out glances every 30 or so seconds. Speaking of Rose and the Doctor, it seems that they were once again arguing over something.
"So no one is going to ask the strange, probably alien man how he got on to the ship?" Mickey asked his two other companions. "Didn't you say there were no other life forms on the ship when we arrived doctor? Then what," he pointed at Harry "suddenly this bloke just pops up and helps out?" At this, the Doctor did turn his attention to the one unidentified person in the room. "And are we going to just glaze over the fact that he said that he could control the TARDIS!?"
Rose stood up and approached Harry, who at this point was stationed between the two available exits in case shit hit the fan, because even if he knew why he was here it did not mean that the people involved did not plan to harm him. The Doctor must have seen his body tense and the glance he shot at the closest door as Rose neared closer because he quickly grabbed her arm to halt her approach.
The companions will not harm the Engineer. The TARDIS chimed in gently. Harry tilted his head and continued to watch the silent argument that was happening between Rose and the Doctors eyes.
To you and the Doctor that may be true… Rose pride her arm away from the Time Lords grasp angrily and turned back to Harry with a huff. Harry stiffened at the aggressive attitude and when she took another step Harry retreated two.
Realization dawned on Rose at that moment. Glancing back over her shoulder at the stiff posture the Doctor was currently in, she now understood why he tried to stop her. The stranger was acting like a stray cat cornered in an ally. She hadn't thought much of it because of the situation with the clockwork men, but this stranger had been hurt by the droids, hadn't he? Glancing at the said wrist that was still cradled against the mans chest, she edited her last thought.
He is acting like a stray injured ally cat.
She quickly tried to make herself less threatening and took a step back toward the Doctor, noticing that the man minutely relaxed. Smiling brightly she spoke across the room to him.
"Sorry, about the boys. My name is Rose Tyler, what's your name? Are you ok, or did those clockwork men hurt you?"
Harry tilted his head to the left. He recognized that he was acting strangely, or more strangely than the two humans and Time Lord are used to, but all the information he was receiving from this TARDIS and the interactions he has had with said time-traveling tech, screamed at him that something was wrong.
Rose, and it also seemed the Time Lord, picked up on his anxiety. Trusting the TARDIS Harry relaxed a little bit more once Rose introduced herself.
"Um, you can call me Harry if you would like…" He glanced down at his wrist and debated if he should tell them the truth about the injury. "I'm an engineer of sorts." The Doctor raised one of his eyebrows at the choppy introduction, and then remembering back in the control room when the stranger was attempting to comfort him.
"Your pretty bad at conversation aren't you lad?" He asked bluntly. Rose shot him a look that just screamed exasperation as Mickey scoffed from his left. "I mean I'm rubbish too, but mostly on picking up social cues." He shrugged thinking to himself that more people should lick rocks to learn the mineral composites of their locations. It was a good skill to have.
Harry was feeling quite called out and that famous Evens temper he inherited from his mum flared up despite the years trying to snuff it out. "Well, I'm sorry Time Lord, that I did not have the time to brush up my decorum before being thrust into a new location and dragged around by some bloody repair droids! It's not like I had a choice in the matter now, did I?" Harry paused to take a breath to continue ripping into the other man but was interrupted by Rose.
"Oh, Harry" she said with pity that took the air right out of his sails "I'm sorry that they did that to you. I'm sure we can take you back! Or maybe you could stay for a while?" Harry's mind stuttered over her comments.
"Oy! Rose, don't go asken the alien to stay!" Mickey whispered yelled across the room. Rose swiveled around to face him.
"He's hurt!"
"And can understand you." Added the Doctor not so helpfully. The Doctor mulled over what Mickey had said though. If this…Harry, said he could operate his TARDIS and the fact that his ship hasn't given him any information on the man, who or what was he?
The black haired man blushed a little at Roses and Mickeys pronouncements and shuffled a little bit to his other foot, the anger he clearly had felt before quickly dissipating... "Erm, I can't really leave until the TARDIS and Time Lord both agree that all is fixed, and she is quite insistent that….something needs to be fixed."
"Wait My Tardis?!" The doctor turned around and placed his hand on the closest wall "Oh gorgeous, you know I can fix anything that's broken on you. No need for an engineer." Suddenly a zap went through his hand causing him to hiss and yank his hand away from the wall.
What? His TARDIS just zapped him!
The Engineer fixes! The TARDIS snapped in his head.
Oh, so we are talking now, and not zapping our partners? Ok, The Doctor was pouting only a little.
The engineer will stay and fix…
But fix what sexy?
...
The Doctor stared at the wall for another 30 seconds before letting out a heavy sigh and threw up his arms. "Alright!" turning towards Harry, if that was not the weirdest name for an alien '...Harry...the alien...Nope don't like it! got to think of something else' the Doctor thought.
"Alright, looks like you are with us till you fix her all up"
My will to live is at 10% but reading Harry potter crossovers is giving me life.
