The chirping birds had woken them up, as well as the sun rays coming trough the window.
Kate laid on her stomach, her hand above her head and underneath her pillow. Castle had already been awake for a couple minutes and had been admiring her.
He traced patterns with his finger over her arm as she woke up. "Morning beautiful."
"Hey Castle, good morning." She turned around, facing him and kissed him.
"I'd like to wake up like this more often." He stated, leaving her feeling all shy.
"Me too."
At breakfast they had the slightest discussion. "Oh you've got to be kidding me Castle."
"Come on, you know that I am not lying." He stated.
"Yes, you were totally into me the first time we met!"
"I just wanted to work the copycat case. That's all. And I could tell that you really wanted me to so-"
"Hey, no. I even asked the Captain not to." Kate firmly said.
"Why don't I believe you?"
She rolled her eyes like only she could and asked: "Our last day. What do you want to do?"
"I actually have something planned for us this time." He had a smug grin on his face, she knew that he was up to something.
"When did you even get the time to plan something Castle?" She was asking because the day before they simply could not keep their eyes off each other.
"Let's just say that I arranged something while you were showering."
An hour later they were on a small boat, clearly only meant for them, heading somewhere not too far from the shore.
"Castle, why won't you tell me where we're going?"
"You'll see." Another grin. She pulled her little trick on him by grabbing his ear until he confessed. "Alright! We're heading to a small, but deserted island not too far off shore. We'll be spending part of our day there." He said proudly.
"Really?" Clearly Kate was touched. Yes, Castle was rich and all but she never expected him to take her to an island for just the two of them.
"Yes, Patrick here, - the guy that owns this boat - will bring us back to the main land at three so we have enough time to do whatever we want. See, there's the island." He pointed at the land that they could see from a distance. Not much later they arrived. The beach was pearly white and it looked quite deserted. There was only one cabin - honeymooners usually rented it - that had everything from food to all things necessary.
"Wow, this feels like a dream." Castle grabbed her hand while she got out of the boat.
"Thanks Patrick. See you at 3."
"Sure thing guys." And off he went.
As anyone would do, they started to explore the island. It wasn't that big and not too far from the main land, but it looked like a fun place to hang out. As they went to put down their backpacks that they brought for the day, they decided to check out the cabin first. The whole exterior was made out of bamboo, but as they went it, the cabin looked quite luxurious on the inside. On their right there was a queen sized bed and fridge next to it. On their left there was another door that led them to the bathroom with the hot tub.
"Who needs a hot tub inside when it's hot outside? I mean there's the water right there!" Castle said.
"Maybe this cabin can be rented during the winter too."
"I see, a quiet little getaway." Castle grabbed her hand and led her outside. Kate wanted to explore some more of the island before sitting down on their little terrace. They even had a hammock. Castle had never been to the island himself, because one day he wanted to bring someone special. And that was Kate to him. They held hands walking down the beach. After about 15 minutes they reached the end of the beach. There was no possibility to walk around the island as the whole thing was covered in palm trees.
Rick felt her squeezing his hand just a little tighter during their walk back to the cabin they had already taken off their shoes and were walking along the edge of the water, dipping their toes in.
"I am so glad that we're doing this." She said.
"You like the island?" He asked.
"Yes, that too, but also us. Being together." Now she stood facing him.
"Me too Kate. Couldn't have wished for a better person to spend the weekend with."
There was a short silence between them.
"Yeah, I had an amazing weekend. But what will happen when we get back to the city.." Kate doubted.
"Well, we've worked together before, so I suggest that we keep doing just that."
"Yes of course, but with us?" She pointed her finger at the two of them.
"Well, we can tell whoever you want about us and I'm sure that this won't feel different when we get home. I know at least I won't feel different." He admitted.
"Me neither." She smiled as they sat down in the hammock, facing each other. Castle tried to lean in for a kiss, but that did not seem to be as easy as he'd hoped in the hammock. "Alright, I'll kiss you later then." She giggled when he had trouble getting up.
They changed out of their clothing and got into their swimming trunks, going into the water.
"Ohhh it's a little more chilly than you'd expect." Castle stated, going into the water, wrapping both of his arms around his chest.
"Don't be a baby Castle, the water's just fine." It wasn't necessarily warm, but Kate couldn't stop smiling at her boyfriend. Right as he turned around to face her, she splashed water on him. "Oh who's the baby now huh?" He asked, trying to look shocked of what she just did to him, but he wasn't convincing her. He splashed the water back at her and before they knew it they were having a water fight, right up until they were completely wet and ready to just go for a swim.
After a few more hours of laying around on the couch together, enjoying their last moments in private together and having a very late lunch, they decided that it was time to start packing. Castle hadn't brought too much since he always kept some stuff at the house in case he'd randomly go up there.
Kate heard him knocking on her door. "Come in."
"Hey."
"Hey Castle, what's up?" He looked a little sad.
"It's just sad that the weekend is already over, that's all. I wish we could have spent some more time together here."
"I know, but it's not like we won't be seeing each other. We work together after all."
"Yes, but at the precinct, I can't do this." He kissed her on the left cheek. "Or this." Then he kissed her right cheek.
"Or this?" She asked and kissed him on the lips.
"Yeah, that too." They sat down on the bed, their arms touching, Castle's arm wrapped around her waist. She led her head rest in his neck.
"How do I tell Alexis.." He said, not really asking. "I could just invite you over for dinner at the loft tonight, that way can just tell them. Or is that too soon?"
Kate didn't know what to say. Yes, it was soon, but they were in this for the long run, at least they were going to give it a shot.
"No, it's not. I'd gladly have dinner with you guys tonight."
"Good, I'll text mother and Alexis that we have a guest tonight. Won't mention you of course, I would like it to be a little surprise."
"Martha is going to freak when she hears." Kate laughed. She knew that when it came to the both of them Martha was the one that rooted for them to most.
"Mother? Yeah, she'll definitely be starting the wedding plans." He laughed as well.
"Easy there tiger, we've only been together for what? 24 hours? Let's go." She got up and grabbed her bags.
Maybe she was right, he thought. Everything was going quite quickly. They packed their belongings into the car and drove back to the city.
Parked at the loft, Castle grabbed his keys to his place.
"Look, Kate.." He looked at her, making sure she'd payed attention. "I just told my mother that I would have an extra visitor for dinner. I didn't tell her about you going with me or whatever."
"It's fine Castle, we'll just see how this goes." She was pretty sure that Martha wouldn't mind. Alexis? She wasn't too sure of her.
He opened the door and right as he walked in, Martha came up them and hugged Kate. "Katherine, what a wonderful surprise! How are you?"
"I'm doing great Martha, thank you. How are you?"
During their small talk she noticed Alexis smiling at her, welcomingly. It made her feel a little more at ease.
"So how was your weekend, Dad? Got any writing done?" Alexis asked. 'Does she know what we've been up to..' Kate asked herself.
"Uhhh, no not really actually." He said.
Kate decided to just get it over with. It would be even more awkward to tell them later, she thought.
"No, that was my fault. I was with him." Kate admitted, looking over at Castle.
"Ohh, I see." Martha stated happily, but she seemed to not be convinced. Alexis seemed to get it, and didn't seem upset.
"So you just got back then? What did you do all weekend?" His daughter asked.
"We had those amazing chocolate shakes that you love at All's." Her dad replied.
"Ohhh yes, those bring back some good memories." Alexis told them.
"So, I don't mean to pry-" Martha said. "Of course not mother." Castle didn't seem too convinced. "-so you went to the Hamptons together as colleagues?" Of course she didn't mean to pry.
Castle sighed because he should have seen this coming. "Alright then, no. As friends. We both wanted to see if there was something more, and it turns out there is.." He smiled at Kate knowingly.
"Oh son I am so happy for you! I knew it!"
"Thanks mother." He smiled.
"And you too Kate. I knew the both of you would be great together." Kate smiled shyly.
"Would you mind just keeping this between us for now?" Kate asked, her friends didn't know yet and she'd want to tell it to them herself.
"Oh of course. Not a problem." Martha could not contain her smile.
Castle looked over at Alexis and she just nodded at him and that was all the confirmation he needed from his little girl.
AN: Alright then, hopefully you enjoyed chapter four! This one was probably very cheesy, but I imagined what they could do in The Hamptons and this sounded like fun. Not everything is based on facts of course, just personal interpretation.
I definitely want the next chapters to be about their friends finding out, Kate having a girl's night with Lanie and all that. Discovering what Castle & Beckett's feelings mean when they get back to work might be a little different, but I am excited to change things up for y'all!
