I borrowed the Obstacle Course from Deku? I think he's some pro... , an amazing fanfiction that I think is one of the best written! I suck at actiony scenes and his obstacle course was so well written I had to use it. How it is solved is different, vastly so, but the actual course is the same. If you notice that, you get a cookie.
Physically this person is in far better shape then Izuku in Loser's Quest as he has had three years to get good!
Nine Months Later!
As Hibiki sat in the auditorium with the other students, having just finished the written portion of the recommendation exam, his mind wandered. Maiinly as he had no thoughts of failure, no real worry that he messed up. The written test hadn't been hard and frankly he had been studying for literal years, he was sure he had aced the damn thing... no, his thoughts had turned to his brother, Izzy, and the divide that had been birthed between them ever since he had revealed that he planned to become a hero. It felt endless, and they had barely spoke more then a hundred words since then... but there was a good side to it all.
In the last nine months since then, his brother had finally started to train his body and with some great results... he became buffer and more fit then ever which meant that he might just very well succeed in getting into U.A., however a quiet resentment had lingered in the air whenever they were in the same room. It was painful and even their oblivious mother had noticed it...which was a real shock, Inko was not the world's greatest thinker, parent or being that possesed situational awareness no matter how loving she was.
"What is going on between you two? I swear, it's been a month since you two have even spoken to each other in my presence! You will tell me what happened right now!"
Barely resisting the urge to roll his eyes at his mother's attempt to be intimidating, Hibiki sighed and spilled the beans. "He is resentful that I was recommended to get into the U.A. Her Program and he wasn't."
His mother stiffened. "I thought... you didn't want to be a hero?"
"So did I, but apparently he has secrets." Izuku frowned at him, angry and hurt.
Hibiki just rolled his eyes. " You had no faith in Izuku's desires, so why share mine with you mom... not when the whole world was against the idea. No, it was better I study and work in private so no one could sabatoge me, not even with poor thinking like yours mom."
She flinched, her face paler then milk. "I... I... I am sorry, you thought I would... "
"Mom, you would have done your damnedest to refuse me, to baby me, to milk my innocence so I would not try for the exam. I love you but we both know that is the truth. No, I did what I had to in order to succeed. Detective Tsukauchi is recommending me and I took him up on it. I have been training for years and I will be the first Quirkless kid to become a hero." Izuku left the room after that, unable to tolerate more. Hibiki just sighed. "He's just upset that I didn't tell him or help him. The truth is he has no business being a hero when he isn't willing to do anything to make his ambitions a reality. I love him but it is true..."
"Hello, listeners! Rock On! The written part of the recommendation test is over!" Hibiki was startled out of his thoughts by Present Mic's obnoxious voice. " The practical's next, and then, finally, the interview! This portion will be a three kilometer obstacle course run in groups of six. We will be looking not only at your times, but at your ingenuity and use of your quirks, so please go all out! As you leave the auditorium, please take a number from either Midnight or Snipe, these will determine what group you'll be in for the race. Any questions? Alright! Let's go!"
As they slowly filed out of the auditorium, Hibiki kept his mind focused on the prize, knowing he would just psyche himself out if he monitored the other's quirks. It was best to just look ahead and focus on his own goals... that was the best idea for him, or so he hoped.
The first group was called up and went to the starting line. Present Mic nodded to Snipe, who pointed his gun to the sky and fired. Hibiki did not bother to watch, knowing it would just exaserbate his nerves. He waited until it was his turn, kindly and quietly... and before he knew it, it was his time to shine.
"You seem nervous." A girl, next to Hibiki, said. She was beautiful and tall with thick hair wrapped into a ponytail.
" I am... I never expected to be here, but here I am. My long hours of training, my unfetered dedication is being tested in a way I never anticipated. I hope I can rise to the challenge."
"My name is Momo Yaoyorozu... and I have to admire that drive, not many can stand tall when faced with such adversity." She smiled at him, warm and comforting but oddly distant. "You?"
"Hibiki Midoriya."
"Nice to meet you Midoriya. Our group is next... may you do well."
Walking to the starting line alongside the pretty girl, Hibiki settled into a runner's stance, readying himself. Quirk or not, he had a feeling he was in the best shape among his fellow examinees. Most others relied so much on their quirks that they had weaker bodies. An advantage he hoped he would be able to capitalize on.
The moment Snipe's gun went off, he ran toward the first obstacle, which looked like the first hill of a roller coaster. Hibiki reached the damn thing in half of the time of the others, blasting forward as fast as he could. Taking a deep breathe at the apex, he let himself sprint down the hill, making sure to not fall or slip up. It took more concentration then he anticipated, but sure enough he managed to reach the bottom of the hill without falling over! His knees were aching though, as were his ankles from the strain of not falling.
Within seconds, he was at the next obstacle, which involved hopping from different sized pillars that ascended up to a thin wall. There was nothing fancy he could do to climp up it, but he had done some parkour in preperation for being a hero. It wasn't a focus like taekwando was, but it was something he did one or twice a week during his jogs and only for a few minutes at a time. More then half of all heroes did it regularly, so it seemed obvious to at least try it. With those skills in mind, he hopped and climbed and soon enough he was over the obstacle! His arms ached though, and he vowed to do more parkour to make up for the pain.
The next obstacle was a thin cement wall about the width of a balance beam that students were running across. Again his parkour skills would be prevelant here... and they were, however he was far slower then he'd like allowing people to start to catch up including the pretty girl from earlier, Momo!
'Damn why didn't I take parkour more seriously... no, stay calm, just make a point to pick it up in the future.'
Up next his goal wasn't so much of an obstacle as a slide that dumped into a pool of water... he just had to bear itas he slid down, the water weighing him down as he hurried along. He swam quickly toward the next obstacle, a cliff face that went straight up. The obstacle after the cliff climb was a rope strung across two spires, then climbing down the second spire to arrive at the top of a plateau. More climbing and Parkor, it was as if the universe was mocking his slacking...
Damn the universe to hell! Wasn't being quirkless enough!
After reaching the top of the spires, He paused as he saw a narrow fissure in the middle of the plateau, with rock climbing holds on both sides going down. The gap was only about four feet wide in most areas, and Hibiki was just over five feet tall so… At the bottom of the fissure was a short tunnel that Hibiki would have to army crawl through, a nightmare given his loathing of closed spaces... he had to steel himself and take a few massive deep breathes before crouching down and starting to army crawl. It was a miserable experience, and he could not get out of the damn place fast enough, he felt like it would collaspe on him at any moment!
There was a waterfall in front of him and so he just ran forward, ignoring the strain until he could breathe again and boom he was free!
'A straight shot to the finish line... sweet... but I have to keep my pacing, otherwise they will catch up. The army crawl will slow them down for a bit... sigh, good thing I trained endurance more then anything, it may be the one thing that gets me a spot even if Parkour hasn't been my focus.'
Focusing himself, he shot foward as fast as he could, knowing he could maintain that speed for upwards of twenty minutes if need be, though he'd be exhausted. The world shot by as he ran and ran and ran and before he knew it...
"Damn kid, you dominated this entire thing... you got an atheletic quirk or what?" Midnight, standing at the base of the Obstacle course, blinked at him with shock. "That is the fast I've seen outside of that kid with the Wind quirk and by a five minutes at the least."
Deeply breathing and utterly pooped, he shook his head. " No quirk..."
Her eyes widened. "During the race or..."
"At all."
She blinked, baffled. "Huh... that's... " Her smirk was so sexual he felt his skin crawl. "What stamina you must have... I must keep that in mind, in a few years you just might..."
He turned away and started to walk, her laughter chasing him.
"Hey, Midoriya!" Yaoyorozu was at his side the moment she crossed the finish line, taking second place. "That was amazing! I have never seen anyone move that fast, it was incredible."
He laughed, a wheezy sound given how out of breathe he felt. "Thanks... I have been working my butt off to get and stay in shape for the last... almost three years. Day in and out. Still, this showed me where I need to improve."
"All right!" Present Mic Yelled, "Now don't get too down if you didn't get first in the obstacle courses. We'll be deciding who gets the recommendation spots based on a combination of the written, physical, and interview! So if you did poorly, don't lose hope! And if you did well, don't get too comfortable! Now go! Get to the locker rooms and get cleaned up! Interviews will be in Principal Nedzu's office in 30 minutes. Don't be late!"
::::
As Hibiki waited for his interview, in which nerves rendered everyone too silent to speak, he finally took stock of his fellow testers. No one really stood out bar a boy with candy cane hair... he had a scar on his face that made him look emo as hell. However before he think to say anything, the door to Nezu's office opened and an examinee walked out, followed by the principal himself, "Hibiki Midoriya?"
Slowly, Hibiki walked into the Rat's office. Nezu smiled warmly and shut the door behind him.
"Have a seat, my dear boy. I admit, to see a quirkless child, especially one with your record of violence manage to not only be recommended but to excel so highly in the first two parts of the test has been quite the shock." The Principle's voice was impossibly warm, making it hard not to smile in return.
Hibiki sat down across from the principal and nodded. "I get that... and I can explain the black marks really, they were in defense of myself and my brother. We're both quirkless and we've both been abused. Until I started therapy, I was unaware that I could talk my way out of a lot of those situations. Detective Tsukauchi has been a major asset in that... he helped me become a better person and frankly I have always wanted to serve and help, I just now have the direction and control to make that dream a reality."
Nezu poured two cups of tea and took a sip. "I can see why you would think so... not many people are capable of making the clear change you have, that your record shows. I admit, it is impressive, it takes a great deal of self awareness and a willingness to grow."
"I saw a problem, well had it shoved in my nose, and tried to fix it. If that is impressive, I am glad to impress... in truth life hasn't been easy, so making it easier even a little is a blessing all it's own."
"I imagine so... so, tell me what do you think of the current view towards the value of Quirks and society? Do not hold back, tell me everything." This was a topic Hibiki could speak on forever and so he did, going into great detail on how quirks were overvalued, how people over relied on them and how they stemmed the growth of technology and society when overrelied on like any other obssession... Then, before he knew it, the session was over. " Well, Hibiki, thank you." Nezu stood and walked around the desk, "You may go rejoin the other applicants outside, or you may go home if you wish."
Barely masking his shaking, Hibiki smiled at the Rat. "It has been an honor, sir, regardless of your choice. I say this not to suck up but to be honest, your my favorite hero. Like me you have nothing that makes you physical dangerous besides what you can earn with your own two paws... you get being looked down on, being hated or mistrusted for a genetic twist... thank you for the oppurtunity to meet you."
Giving him a warm, genuine smile, Nezu led him back out into the lobby and grabbed the next student.
His exam was over and he only had a week to find out the results...
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
This was fun, powerful and helpful.
Love, your Ninja Overlord,
