Chapter 4: Wait What?

As Alyssa face-planted into the floor, her vision became distorted and blurry and a blinding hot pain flashed through her head. When everything stopped spinning she saw two huge paws placed right in front of her. Horror and panic quickly seeped in as she remembered what had happened in the past hour and where she was right now. A world that was most definitely not her own. With birds that can somehow fly with wings of just bone, girls magically sprouting from the ground like flowers, huge castles that looked stereotypically good or evil, and some other monster with two very different voices attached to only one body. She stared at the two huge paws flanked by an empty room. At the very end of the small room was a large silver table. With no one else around, Alyssa started trying to understand why she heard two voices when there was supposed to only be one until Zack stirred next to her, bringing her out of her trance.

"What the hell, is that stupid bird a defect or what. I told him to take me to MY school, not this weird grey towe-"

"ARE YOU TWO IMPOSTERS GOING TO STAY ON THE GROUND FOREVER?!"

The two flinched at how loud the gruff voice was and couldn't do anything else except stand up. Once the two were upright, it became very clear why there two voices. Connected to one ginormous body of bear were two dog heads. One looked sweet and fluffy with big innocent brown eyes, it looked like a dog that would belong to a little girl with a pink tutu strapped onto her waist and a tiara propped on her head at all times. The other one looked rough and manly with matted fur and piercing red eyes that just screamed bloody murder. It was pretty clear which voices belonged to who. Now that she was up she could get a better view of the small room and it was, well, just as empty as it looked when she was on the floor. Except for large bookshelves covering the walls filled with all types of books, big or small, and every colour you could think of. On the silver table there was a closed book that looked considerably empty. However, there was also a magically floating calligraphy pen right above it. It had silver carvings on the sides in a language she'd never seen before and ink dripping from the tip, splattering on the maroon cover of the book; eager to create a story for the world. Yet Alyssa was too befuddled with the strange monster before her to worry about a floating pen at the moment.

"Do you always have to shout Castor, you're scaring the kids", huffed the cute one.

"OH SHUT UP POLLUX, WE HAVE NO IDEA WHO THESE KIDS ARE. THEY COULD BE IMPOSTERS PRETENDING TO TAKE OVER THE SCHOOL. INTIMIDATING THEM IS THE BEST WAY AROUND THIS!"

Pollux sighed, " I guess your right..."

He turned his head towards Alyssa and Zack and with his eyes narrowed in suspicion that sweet look permanently on his face disappeared.

"Who are you, and why are you here?"

Both Castor and Pollux were staring at them now, waiting for an answer. A look on their face that made them seem almost identical. But before Alyssa could even think of a response Zack spoke up.

"I'm here to become a prince. But you kinda put me in the wrong place. I'm supposed to be at the big pretty castle on the right, she's the one who likes taking candy from children." He said pointing at me.

The three of them just stared at him dumb shocked.

"Wait what?", Alyssa remarked, "We are not staying here Zack, why are you acting like we came here by choice?!"

She whipped her head around to look at Castor and Pollux, "We were kidnapped by your weird bone birds and forced to be here, don't get it mixed up cause we are NOT staying"

"Wait what?"

"Yes, we aren't staying Zack. You can't expect me to consciously stay here in this freak of a world when we have our family who needs us back at home."

As the two argued Castor and Pollux gave a quick glance to each other, a hint of nostalgia in their eyes.

"They're just like them," Pollux whispered to his brother, "What should we do?"

"I DON'T KNOW, BUT, THE STYMPHS MUST'VE BROUGHT THEM HERE FOR A REASON. THAT MUST MEAN THE SCHOOLS HAVE CHOSEN THEM, THEY HAVE TO STAY." Castor tried to whisper back unsuccessfully.

Alyssa and Zack's arguing stopped as the two stared at Castor, one with excitement the other with horror.

"Wait, what?" They both shouted.

"What do you mean we have to stay here? We have to go home, now!" Alyssa voiced loudly.

"Um no we don't. We- I mean I can stay here and become a prince. You know that's my absolute lifelong dream Alyssa, you can't take this away from me!" Zack complained.

"GOD DO THE TWO OF YOU EVER STOP ARGUING, YOU'RE STAYING HERE. FULL STOP. YOU'LL BOTH BE ATTENDING THE SCHOOLS YOU WERE DROPPED IN FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS. YOU CANNOT LEAVE, DON'T TRY TO. WE'VE HAD OTHER STUDENTS TRY BEFORE AND THEY WERE... UM... UNSUCCESSFUL? ANYWAYS, YOU'RE STAYING HERE, GOT IT?"

"Wait wait wait, WHAT?!" Zack yelled. But before they both had a chance to say anything else, Castor and Pollux shoved the two out of the window they were so rudely tossed in minutes before. Alyssa quickly grabbed the window sill with one hand and screaming Zacks's hand in the other, looking down at the 50 feet drop into the midpoint of the rivers, where black bubbling sludge met crystal blue waters, in absolute terror. Although she could hear her heart pounding in her head, she was still able to make out a cuddly voice say

"I'm just glad that the storian didn't start another story, with how much alike they are, we might've had another horrible 3-year long war on our hands-" Their voice abruptly stopped.

As Alyssa's grip on the window slipped, she only heard one more thing before falling to her supposed doom.

The sound of a book slamming open and the scratching of a pen.
