AN: I originally planned for this to come a bit later, maybe the 7th or 8th chapter, but I liked it so much that I wanted as many people to see it as soon as possible, so here it is. My first time writing an action scene. Once again I ask of you all to review and help me improve my writing.
Enjoy!
July 5th, 2021 (Mossdeep Gym Stadium, Mossdeep City)
"Now for a special event! A special request from two upcoming rookie trainers to broadcast a quick 1v1 rival battle! However! Do not get turned off at this, this battle is a must-watch for all die-hard followers of the gym challenge! Both trainers who are going to participate each have 6 badges and originally came to the city to earn their 7th."
The crowd which had died down when they realized that the gym leaders Tate and Liza were done for the day quickly regained their excitement when it was announced that it was not going to be any amateur match but a fight between two trainers with 6 badges and the experience that comes with that.
"On the blue side, we have Alastor from Fallarbor town! This 15-year-old has quickly been rising up the ranks as one of the most talented new faces! He and his team of pokemon have certainly been giving the gym leader's a hard time! However, his most astonishing feat must be his astounding 6 badges in just 2 months! This young man will definitely go far."
"On the red side, we have Daniel from Mauville City! As true rivals, this teenager has the exact same track record as his rival! Known in the public eye for his handy use of held items and set-up moves he too has conquered all of mainland Hoenn in his mere 2-month tenure as a pokemon trainer! Will these two become the next Steven and Wallace? Only time will tell folks!"
"As a true show of rivalry, these two trainers even planned which pokemon they were going to use beforehand! This will be a true show of skill and planning! And now let me announce, the battle between Alastor and Daniel, a Sceptile vs Swampert showdown!"
That last bit definitely got the attention of the audience. A pre-decided match? Those were unheard of, especially in a 1v1 format where there is no possibility of switching around your pokemon! The audience could only watch as the two trainers walked into the limelight.
"You sure about this dude? I have a pretty big advantage with Sceptile you know?"
"Just make sure to save face when you lose even with your 'pretty big advantage'"
"The rules are simple, in this 1v1 match there will be no substitutions from either side, moves that force them like 'flip turn' and 'U-turn' are strictly prohibited. At any point, either trainer may forfeit and stop the match. The battlefield will be a grassy field as per the request of the competitors. Let the exhibition match begin!" the referee went through the rules of the format and two pokemon appeared on the field.
"Go! Chase!" Alastor calls out his Sceptile.
"Time to shine Fin!" says Daniel as he throws out a Pokeball.
"Sceptile!"
"Swampertt!"
At the sound of the whistle, both pokemon go to work.
"Fin! Start with surf!" orders Daniel as a huge wave of water goes to crash on Sceptile.
"We won't be able to dodge it so go for Swords Dance and then cut through it with Leaf Blade!" Alastor calmly decides his next move.
Sceptile cleanly cuts through the massive wave with his boosted leaf blade. The crowd was in awe of it's sheer power.
"And that's what you call power! That Sceptile's leaf blade cleanly cut through that wall of water! In one fell swoop, Daniel's opening move has been rendered useless!" the announcer sings the praises of the Sceptile but Alastor wasn't done yet.
"There'll only be more Surfs coming if I don't close the distance"
"Chase! Go in with that leaf blade! Don't give him any time to rest!"
"Fin protect!"
"Stupid Alastor! Gimme some breathing room!"
The smashing of the leaf blade on the wall of Protect could be heard even in the stands as the audience shouts in excitement.
"Fin drop the Protect and use screech!"
The sound that came from Swampert could only be described as nails on a chalkboard but taken to it's logical extreme. The audience could only try and fail to block the screeching noise.
"That Screech attack can be heard all the way in the stands! One can only imagine the effect on the Sceptile right in front of it, oh and look! Sceptile seems to be clutching it's ears in pain!" calls the commentator and as he said Chase the Sceptile was curled up on the ground writhing in agony.
"Now Chase use detect!" orders Alastor who was also closing his ears to the best of his ability.
"Fin follow up with bulk up and ice punch!"
"Tch. that idiot forced us to use detect so that we couldn't use it to block his next attack and screech even got our defense to -2. But that means nothing if he doesn't get close enough!"
"Chase use agility and dodge it!"
"With that Swords Dance boost a single Leaf Blade will end the match if it hits, even with the defense boost from Bulk up! I have to make sure he doesn't get the chance to attack!"
"Fin! Use Reflect!"
With both trainers using all the knowledge and experience, they gathered in the 2 months since they first met their partner pokemon, the match was still far from over.
With battle unfolding before them, the stands grew silent as if in wait for a big climax that they just couldn't miss. Clashes of Leaf Blade and Ice Punch were occurring all over the stadium with both pokemon making it out of each clash by the skin of their teeth. Now both pokemon stood once again in opposite ends of the field, waiting for instructions.
"Chase, it's time to finish this! Swords Dance and Leaf Blade let's go!"
"Have to slow him down somehow! I can't lose here!"
"Fin, Bulk Up then Ice Beam around yourself!"
"Chase don't fear slipping! Get in before he covers the entire place in ice!"
"Shit, that ice is going to cause hesitation in our movements even if we go in before he's done"
"Sceptile!"
"Swampert!"
Instinctively the pokemon knew, this was to be the last exchange of the match, the deciding clash to end the fight. No holding back, no interruptions, in that moment the pokemon only heard their orders and only saw their opponent and they only felt the thrill of battle.
"Ice Punch!"
"Leaf Blade!"
"Swampert!" the mudfish pokemon confidently takes it's stance.
"Sceptile!" Chase gets low and moves as fast as he can to get the final blow.
Boom!
And thus ended a clash that would be hailed as the pinnacle of amateur fighting for years to come.
"Sceptile is unable to battle the winner is Swampert and Daniel!" called the referee and the crowd erupted in cheers.
"You did good Chase, it's time to rest. Return." as Alastor calls back his fainted partner and walked towards the center of the field and Daniel does the same.
"It was a Ringo berry wasn't it," asks Alastor, though it comes off more as a statement than a question. The Ringo berry was a special berry that halves super effective grass-type damage for one turn.
"Ya, I had to be prepared for at least one grass-type attack, what match would it be if I lost in one hit, especially with the 4 times super-effectiveness," confirms Daniel as they both shake hands and wave to the audience.
As Alastor turns around and walks back to the waiting room he calls out to Daniel one last time.
"Don't get cocky after this one win, when we meet again in the champion's cup I will beat you, be prepared Daniel Todd of Mauville."
"You said something similar at the beginning of the match, didn't you? When we meet again on the other side of the field I'll make you eat your words, Alastor Dent of Fallarbor." Daniel smirks.
With the rival-speak done both trainers head back to their lodgings eagerly awaiting their next bout.
