Chapter 04: A New Line of Work

Michiru and Shirou sitting quietly were in an interrogation room, waiting for someone to come in.

All there was as a metal table, a few chairs and a window that they couldn't see through with most likely detectives on the other side, discussing on how to approach them.

The officers had to take their IDs and run blood tests in order to identify who they were but Shirou knew they would have no luck.

He already saw and heard enough to know that this isn't Anima City or even the Japan he recognized for that matter but he couldn't help but to think to himself how they got here in the first place.

is it possible that we're on another Earth, like Adam was doing the last time i saw him. Thought Shirou as he was lost in thought.

Shirou was holding his chin as he paused then looked over at Michiru holding Kuro, petting him as he rested on her lap.

It took a lot of time to convince the officers to keep Kuro with them, especially since he's an animal and it could affect their interrogation.

But since Michiru was uncomfortable and nervous about everything that had happened, the least they could do is let Kuro stay and comfort her.

As long as Kuro didn't bother them during interrogation and was calm, they could keep him in the room.

Although Michiru was calmer than she was during her encounter with the Pro-Heroes, she was worried, not just about the situation her and Shirou are in, but she had no clue where they were.

She felt almost the same as she did when she was trying to get to Anima City, scared and lost, but out of it, she hoped everything would be okay and hopefully, they can get some answers.

Shirou began to grew impatient, he had to know how bad of a situation they were in.

The way the Pro-Heroes looked after they asked what their "Quirks" were and the fact how they used them made him worry, especially since they were assumed to be criminals at first sight in that alleyway.

This could be risky but I gotta be careful not to make any moves while doing this so I don't attract attention, we're in an enclosed room with no open space so I'll have to manage. Thought Shirou as he slowed his breathing, began growing fur around his body and transformed back into his wolf form.

All they could do was sit and wait, but they didn't say anything about using their "Quirks" so he decided to test that.

He took a deep breath, directly sniffing the air and calmed his mind as it went black.

Within his mind as white shadow-like figures, Shirou saw the room they were in and the window right beside them.

On the other side of the window he found multiple scents, concentrating on each one clearly to get a better picture.

Two people in uniform, badges, definitely the detectives, one of them looks human but the other one looks like a dog. Thought Shirou as he didn't think he would encounter a Beastman with the city of humans.

There's another but he's not a detective, he looks professional, a teacher, but he looks so short white fur, some kind of mouse or dog? Thought Shirou as he could not tell what the creature was.

4 more people, wearing different costumes their heroes, like the ones we encountered wait I recognize one of them. Thought Shirou as he pictured a figure who had a white and purple costume with horns.

It's the woman Michiru saved back from the alley, the one that can grow but who else would be here? Asked Shirou in his mind.

One with a light brown jacket with white feathered edges, wearing goggles, no glasses, he has wings, and he's speaking to one of the other heroes. Thought Shirou.

The other one is a person in dress clothes and a tie. He looks like… an Orca? Asked Shirou in his mind as he noticed the appearce of a human orca.

This place gets weirder by the minute. Thought Shirou as knew nothing like this was nirmal.

The last one looks nerdy, green hair with gold-yellowish streaks, wearing glasses and is staring at me, shit. Thought Shirou as his eyes widened and quickly turned back into a human which got Michiru's attention, making her put her hand on his shoulder, concerned after realizing that something was wrong.

Did he know what I was doing, this may be worse than I thought. Thought Shirou.

Shirou began to realize after seeing the group of heroes and that strange man on the other side of the window.

He began to worry for Michiru, with a large group of heroes here, it must mean they could think him and Michiru are a threat or the heroes are here as a precaution.

A common reaction, they want to ensure safety and security against things they don't understand just yet.

He's not surprised, he has seen this countless times back at Anima City when he worked with the Mayor.

All he could do now is wait until they arrive in the room.

"So who's gonna go in first?" Asked the hero with wings, catching the attention of the heroes who waited in the observation room, all but the guy with glasses who continued to look directly at the white haired man who became a wolf only moments ago.

"I'm afraid that's up to us Hawks, we need someone who can help us out in getting some answers, that's why we brought you guys here." Replied the glasses guy as the chief of police walking up to the window.

"Indeed, from what the reports say the two suspects were trying to run from the scene of the crime but the male suspect engaged shortly after Death Arms and Mt. Lady attempted to subdue them, woof." Said the chief of police.

"But the report also states the man has a wolf transformation quirk but has heightened speed and strength, from what Kamui Woods and Death Arms said, he looked as fast as All Might, woof." Said the chief of police, which shocked the group of heroes, even the strange animal.

As the Chief of Police, he had dealt with many occasions of hit and runs, robbery cases and many countless crimes, but this one was the first that didn't add up.

Two suspects with multiple abilities, which could only mean they have more than one quirk and how they turned themselves in and even saved Mt. Lady.

"So that's why you called us here, to help with questioning?" Asked the hero with wings.

"I thought it was because you needed some extra security, especially since the wolf kicked the crap out of Death Arms." Said Hawk.

"Send me in." Said Mt. Lady as she raised her hand up in the air, catching everyone's attention.

"You should've seen how the girl threw herself out to protect me, even if they have more than one quirk she doesn't look like a bad guy." Said Mt. Lady, trying to defend them.

"She's just a kid, they should at least see someone they recognize." Said Mt. Lady.

"This is a tough decision, but we can't let our emotions get the best of us, might I suggest good cop, bad cop?" Asked the hero with wings.

"That usually works, I'm sure it will work on those two." Said the human orca finally.

"Not a bad idea but we have to convince them to tell us from their perspective on what happened to them, maybe we can get the full picture." Said the cheif of police.

The detective was about to respond until the doors to the observation room opened, 2 officers came into the room holding files and data on the two suspects.

"Any luck?" Asked the chief of police.

"I'm afraid not." Said one of the officers, leaving the room quiet once more giving him a chance to speak.

"We couldn't find any trace of these two, they were completely off grid, to add to that their ID's were nothing I've seen." Said one of the officers.

"I've even ran the blood tests you asked me for and I had no luck identifying their quirks but nothing is registered, it's like they appeared out of nowhere, like that red-haired girl Vandom we met awhile ago." Said the officer as he showed the detective printed versions of the suspects ID's reading one of them.

His eyes widened seeing ID's that were completely different to the ones they had themselves.

Both of them were read as Anima City ID's, even the Pro-Heroes have never heard of them.

"Michiru Kagemori, 15 years old, Tanuki Beastman?" Asked the chief as he was lost by the word Beastman, but started to realize something as he looked at the girl on the other side of the glass.

She looked like an animal, like her wolf friend, a racoon looking one but was actually a Tanuki after now reading her ID.

So I suppose that's her quirk, but the report says that her arms stretched and her tail grew as well, these two have a lot of explaining to do about their quirks. Thought the chief as he grew more worried by the minute, unknown ID's, so called Beastman powers, none of it made sense.

"Send me in." Said the hero with glasses as he turned around and finally spoke after not saying a word ever since he came into the room.

The Chief of Police said they needed answers from the two suspects and like the Orca said about being a good cop, bad cop, he could be both.

"You need someone to get answers to your questions, send me and the chief first, with my foresight, I'll get the answers you need." Said the hero with glasses.

"If what you said is true about the girl as well, I should be able to convince them." Said the hero with glasses as he pointed out after reading the report earlier, he was fascinated how the Tanuki girl tried to stop and avoid a fight, then saved Mt. Lady from falling rubble.

The fact they turned themselves in after made him even more curious about them as well.

After a brief silence the Chief of Police finally made his decision.

"Alright Nighteye, I'll give you 20 minutes, depending on how it turns out well send Nezu in at his request, if you're still up to it Nezu." Said The Chief of Police as he started catching the attention of the small mouse/dog looking creature who happily walked forward towards the Chief.

"Of course I still wish to speak to both of them as well, with how the girl reacted back in the alley, that's potential U.A. is looking for." Said Principal Nezu in a joyful voice of course.

As the principle of U.A. High, it's his job to take care of his students and future heroes, and to also convince those with potential to apply as well.

The girl's courage to stop a fight while under immense pressure and saving the life of a fellow Pro-Hero, that's a student who will become a great hero someday he thought.

Even if she was at the scene of a crime, you can easily tell she was a good kid, she had no intention of causing havoc.

"You want her to apply at U.A.?" Asked the human orca in surprise.

"Are you sure that's a good idea Nezu?" Asked the orca as he was concerned by Nezu's goal to convince the girl to apply U.A.

Even if she was innocent, there is no data on her or her friend at all.

They would have to be further investigated to understand why they are off grid.

"Of course I do, but you forgot in the report, it states they had no clue what quirks were and there was a beam of light that appeared before the explosion that occurred, along with them appearing at the scene." Said Nezu with his joyful voice.

"Plus with the ID's they provided to us and how they differed from regular ID's we can assume they aren't from our Japan." Said Nezu.

"Then where, the police ran the ID's and couldn't find anything on 'Anima City'?, and what do you mean by our Japan?" Asked the hero with wings.

"Have you heard of the Multiverse theory?" Asked Nezu which made everyone's eyes widen.

Nighteye wasn't surprised because he knew of this theory well.

The Multiverse Theory was known as the belief of other Earths like their own but different in each one.

All the questions people had of quirks not existing and outcomes of countless wars could be answered by this theory.

But it wasn't as appreciated and taken seriously by most people as it was believed to be impossible and yet superheroes used to be in comic books till generations ago.

"Are you saying they could be from another Earth?" Asked Mt. Lady as she was lost, she only heard some of this theory through small talk but understood the basics of it.

Other Earths and different outcomes of events that led to different futures was what she understood.

"Indeed Mt. Lady, it's quite obvious if you think about it too!" Yelled Nezu as he was joyful still but in a calm and positive through all of this like it was nothing, some people assumed he'd been through worse and thought this was so simple.

"After all, we had another person who came from another world as well, the red haired girl called Will Vandom and i have high hopes for her." Said Nezu as he remembered when they first met her, such a feisty girl.

"I see then let's proceed with the interrogation then Nighteye." Said the cheif.

"Yes sir." Said Nighteye.

5 minutes later

The door to the interrogation room opened, catching Michiru and Shirou's attention, but Kuro remained asleep.

There was a detective and a man in dress clothing, with glasses, with green and gold hair.

It's the people from the observation room. Thought Shirou as he waited for one of the two strangers to speak.

But the man in dress clothing stepped out raising his hand out to both the Tanuki girl and the white haired man.

"Hello, my name is Mirai Sasaki, you may call me by my hero name Nighteye." Said Nighteye as he waited for a handshake.

Shirou knew something was up but he decided to see how it goes, he shook his hand shortly after as they both looked directly at each other.

"You must be Shirou Ogami and Michiru Kagemori, am I correct from what your ID's showed?" Asked Nighteye as he returned their wallets and ID's.

"Yes" Replied Both Shirou and Michiru after getting back their personal items.

"I am detective Naomasa Tsukauchi, I know from what the reports say the both of you were spotted at the scene of an explosion but turned yourselves in, am I correct?" Asked the detective as the chief started pulling out a recording for the interrogation and two files on both Michiru and Ogami.

"Yes." Replied Michiru.

"We're here to understand what happened to you guys at the scene where the explosion occurred and to get some answers." Said Nighteye.

"It's to understand why you couldn't find anything on us being here isn't it, and most likely why we had multiple abilities?" Asked Shirou.

"I saw the looks on those heroes before we left that alley, they were worried, it's why you have so many heroes here, am I right?" Asked Shirou as he was calm when he answered the man's question as he looked directly at the window, not only the detective beside Nighteye but everyone in the Observation room was left speechless, Nighteye looked up from the files he was reading.

"I figured you were using your quirk for some purpose, I'm impressed, you've had some work in the police field haven't you?" Asked Nighteye as he adjusted his glasses to help him see, no one noticed he had activated his quirk as his eye turned purple.

"Yes, but I've only worked with the police when they needed me most, especially the mayor of our city, thanks to my ability to turn into a wolf, I have a keen sense of smell, better than anyone else back home." Replied Shirou.

The detective beside Nighteye was writing notes down, it seemed he was comparing some details from the files on Shirou.

"I see that's how you were to tell who was here, we've been actually meaning to you two about your quirks and where you're from." Said the Detective as he pushed forward their blood tests, underneath their pictures were their names and sections for their 'Quirks'.

But there was nothing, the only word there was "Unknown" and was the same for their location of birth.

"From the ID's you provided, we couldn't find anything on where you're from or your quirks, even the blood test was inconclusive, we tried to analyze your genes so we can identify your quirk but we've never seen anything like it before." Said the detective.

Shirou then looked over to Michiru and Kuro.

"We know your good people, both of you have done some good I can tell, but you have to help us understand what happened and cooperate so we can help you." Said The detective but Shirou was still silent.

Michiru put her hand on her friend's shoulder, nodding with a small smile to show she's ok with telling them.

She knew they weren't home anymore and they were in safe hands, they had to help the police understand everything just as they needed to understand where they were.

Shirou made up his mind, knowing how persuasive Michiru could be, he decided to trust her and the police.

"It's called a Beast Factor, it's what allows me and Michiru to transform into animals freely." Said Shirou as he began to explain.

"Because of this people like us who had this gene were called Beastman, but we were often discriminated against and treated like animals." Said Shirou.

The detective began writing notes as Nighteye listened carefully.

"Anima City was built as a safe haven, a chance to start over for Beastman everywhere so they can live happy lives, my job was to help aid the mayor and the police of the city in keeping the peace and stopping anything or anyone that was a threat." Said Shirou.

"Michiru came to Anima City for a chance to start over, and a cure." Said Shirou but then paused trying to think over if what he said was too much.

"For what?" Nighteye asked, Shirou took a deep breath and decided to continue, he knew this wasn't their world anymore, there was no hiding their powers.

"She was once human, in other words quirkless." Replied Shirou.

His answer left Nighteye speechless, a quirkless girl who suddenly got a power was almost impossible, unless.

"She was in an accident, saving a fellow student and due to her injuries, she was given a blood transfusion but the doctors gave her Beastman blood by accident, which mutated her blood, and doing so, allowed her to transform parts of her body into any animal and reshape them." Said Shirou.

"We still don't know the extent of her power as she became a Beastman little over a year ago." Said Shirou.

It would seem they were starting understand now.

"What about you?" Asked Nighteye which made Shirou pause.

Shirou knew if he spoke of his true power and the fact he's immortal, it could make him a target but this is the police.

He knew from experience they don't share things like the news reporters, but he knew in this world he would have to keep the extent of his power secret.

And there were secrets of his past that Michiru or even the Mayor knew about.

"What do you want to know?" Asked Shirou.

A/N: Man, when it comes to Shirou and Michiru's story, it sure takes a lot quicker.

Next up an origin story for Will like i promised.
