I do not own either RWBY or Animorphs. Both are owned by their respective companies.
My name is Tobias. If you saw me now, I would be flying high on warm air, soaring through the sky. I was a normal kid, just like you. I had hands with fingers, messy blonde hair that was too much of a pain to get right, and eyes whose colors I keep forgetting. Now, I'm a red-tailed hawk. I got stuck, trapped after the two-hour time limit on our powers. But, now I'm free to fly whenever and wherever.
If I was worried about leaving family behind, I really didn't. My dad died when I was young and my mom left soon after. I had aunts and uncles who kept shuffling me around coast to coast. Then, I found my real father, only to see his death with my own eyes. I don't want to talk about it now, but you can ask the others.
Then again, that would be difficult since we generally don't want to be found. Especially now since we're not even on our own planet.
We had a mission. A mission that ended with us being transported to another world and fighting off monsters. There, we met some of the locals and moved in to a big school to stay.
Most of the Animorphs, that being Jake, Marco, Rachel, and Cassie, are staying inside the dorm rooms. I have gotten used to living on my own, so me and Ax, our resident Andalite, chose to live out in the woods beyond Beacon's campus. It's going to take some getting used to, but we'll manage.
Breakfast was easy this morning. I managed to snag two nice juicy wood mice without them running. I guess these woods aren't used to predators like me. Hey, don't look at me like that. I have to eat a hawk's diet. I can't exactly go to a McDonalds and order a Big Mac. I mean, I could with my human form, but I don't know how long it would take to digest.
After breakfast, I flew to find Ax. He was off next to a small pond where he was performing his morning rituals. He has a lot of rituals he does during the day. I guess it's to remind him of his people, even back on Earth. Especially now, when even he doesn't know how far away the Andalites are.
I waited till Ax was finished and asked him, [You ready to go, Ax-man?]
[Ah, good morning, Tobias,] Ax responded. [Yes, I am ready.]
Ax morphed into his northern harrier and we both flew off. The morning sky was getting less foggy, so the sky glowed golden with the rising sun. We flew separately, about a mile apart, mainly because hawks and harriers don't exactly fly together.
{So, Ax-man,] I started conversation. [How's Remnant treating you?]
[Well, actually,] Ax responded. [The grass has more rich nutrients than Earth's. Not as good as my home world's, but not bad.]
[Yeah, breakfast was good for me too. The mice were especially delicious. Almost like there was no predators at all in those woods.]
[Ah,] Ax noted.
There was a brief pause before I asked Ax another question.
[What about these people? What's your thoughts on them?]
[The Remnantian humans,] Ax acknowledged. [They areā¦curious. They appear uncommon by our human standards, yet possess physical traits unlike anything seen on Earth.]
[Speaking of uncommon traits,] I recalled back when we first met team RWBY. [Do you remember Blake, right?]
[The one with the human accessory called a bow?]
[Yeah, her. When I was flying, I saw cat ears behind her bow. Like with actual fur and they moved and everything.]
[A physical mutation, perhaps?]
[Maybe,] I considered. [But I'm wondering more about what the bow represents. If Blake has to hide her extra ears from even her teammates, what does that say about this world's society or their culture?]
[I do not know,] Ax replied. [But, I believe we may find out today.]
We flew closer to the school. We remembered where the Animorph's dorm room was, so it was easy to just fly till we got there. Honestly, the trip could have been smoother. There wasn't as many thermals here than in the neighborhood. Oh, thermals are pockets of hot air that birds can ride on to get altitude without doing a lot of flapping.
I looked inside the window and saw our friends were near the windowsill.
[Hey, could you guys open the window,] I asked them. [Ax and I are about to come in.]
The window was swung open and Ax and I glided into the room. I landed on one of the bed frames while Ax landed on the floor. Rachel closed the window while Ax demorphed.
The room was still spare like the last night. Only this time, our morphing clothes were in a pile off to the corner along with some clothes I guessed were used as pajamas. Everyone who was currently human was in the provided school uniforms already.
[So, you kids had a good sleep over last night,] I joked with everyone.
"Yes, dad," Marco said sarcastically. "And no, we didn't touch your priceless vase."
[There is no vase currently in this room,] Ax pointed out.
"It was just a joke, Ax."
[Ah, human humor. There is more I have to learn.]
"Which is exactly the goal for today," Jake announced. "We will be going to classes and trying to learn as much about this place as we can. Including any sign of Yeerk activity."
Yeah, when we got teleported, we think that our enemies, the Yeekrs, might have come along for the ride. Whether that remains to be true has to be seen.
[Okay, and what those of us who don't stay human 24/7,] I asked.
"That has a solution," Jake reached to a drawer and pulled out an id card. "Huntsmen teams are made up of four people, and Ozpin already picked out the members."
I could see that Jake's name was next to an acronym "JCMR".
"Officially, me, Cassie, Macro, and Rachel are team Jackmire." Jake explained.
"And somehow, we get a lamer team name than our current one," Marco said.
[Didn't you come up with the name "Animorphs"?] I asked rhetorically.
"At least mine made sense."
"To be fair, we only gave Ozpin our first names," Cassie said. "He would have made a better one if he knew more."
"So, that just leaves you and Ax," Jake continued. "Officially as 'transfer students'."
"Aren't we all technically transfer students" Rachel said.
"Yes, just -" Jake sighed. "That means while the rest of us are in class, Tobias and Ax can explore the campus on their own."
"Hey, if you two want breakfast," Rachel turned to me and Ax. "You should probably morph human and get changed."
[I will most certainly be there,] Ax said as he started to morph human.
[I'll go too,] I said as I also morphed human.
It always feels weird morphing. You don't really get used to it. Feeling my rough bird legs smoothen to human skin. Watching my feather blur together and form arms with hands and fingers. My tongue fattens as teeth grew out of my beak, which turned into a nose and lips.
Eventually, Ax and I were in our human morphs. We got dressed with help from Rachel. I still needed help with a tie. Finally, we all left for the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was more spacious than my old school's. The food was better too, with actual breakfast items that didn't taste a couple days' stale. We found a table away from most people to sit down and eat. Back on Earth, we would have to keep to our establish friend groups in order to not arouse suspicion. However, given that we have no history here, we could sit and talk in peace.
Well, almost. Because after a while, team RWBY sat down with us and brought their friends along.
"Hi, guys! We wanted to introduce our friends to you. Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Marco, Tobias, and Ax, meet team JNPR," Ruby introduced everyone.
JNPR consisted of four people: a blond guy named Jaune, a red-head dressed like an Amazon named Pyrrha, a very energetic girl named Nora, and a quiet, ninja-like guy named Ren. Both groups We talked, made small conversation.
Marco established our cover story, saying that our old school got destroyed by Grimm. Everyone seemed to buy it. I was glad nobody was blabbering about our "secret war" or something stupid. The more people think we're just regular kids, the better.
Eventually, a bell rung for first period, leaving me and Ax while everyone else rushed off for class. We walked out into the halls.
"How long have we been in morph?" I whispered to Ax.
"Almost ninety-seven of your minutes," Ax responded.
"Shouldn't that be everyone's minutes?"
"I'm still getting used to the time change."
"Think we can make it back to the dorm in time?"
"I believe so."
And thus began our speed walk back to our dorms. Fortunately, no teacher called us out for skipping class or even just seeing us after class. Ax and I went into the dorm room, demorphed, remorphed, and put on our morphing outfits under regular clothes. We still managed to not destroy out school uniforms, so I count that as a plus.
"Where do we go first?" Ax asked.
"Well, we can see if there is a library," I answered.
Turned out Beacon had its own personal library. So, while Ax managed to get a computer, I snagged a couple of textbooks from the library's shelves.
Astonishingly, I could actually read the words from the textbooks. Which is very strange, considering two planets managed to create the same written language. I could question it later; I had to read.
"How's the computer, Ax," I took a break to ask Ax.
"Overall, it is better than Earth's computers," Ax responded. "Much faster without the primitive dial-up modem. However, it is a shame these Remnantians still use keyboards."
"Huh. I'm just amazed that I can actually read these books. You figured there would be differences in languages."
"Yes, it is rather strangeā¦"
Ax paused and stopped typing. It is rather strange how everything feels so different, yet same. There's no more countries, but kingdoms. But they have societies that are similar to Earth's. There's humans, but they can unlock something called "Aura", which is tied to the soul. Conventional fuel sources being replaced by something called "Dust". Not to mention so many distinclyt human things all in a place that shouldn't have any in the first place.
"Tobias," Ax asked, "Do you feel that these factors are too coincidental?"
"Yeah, I do," I agreed. "What are you thinking, Ax?"
"Given that Remnant has the same species of humans and animals, as well as the name meaning a portion of something that once was," Ax paused. "There may be evidence that Remnant might be a future version of Earth."
"Do you really think that would be true? Could explain a lot."
"Yes, but given how Headmaster Ozpin, and by extension, the Ellimist, refer to Remnant as a separate planet, I believe that our theory may already be debunked."
It sounded almost true, but given the Ellmist's way of twisting words and phrases, I couldn't fully accept either theory.
"Maybe, but the Ellmist hasn't always been trustworthy," I said. "How are we on time?"
"I believe we will need to find a spot to demorph very soon," Ax answered.
We left the library and eventually made our way to a boy's bathroom. After checking to see that it was empty, Ax and I demorphed back to normal.
[Should we continue with our research plan,] Ax asked.
[Let's try something else,] I offered. [What about scouting the city? Get a good sense of location?]
[Yes,] Ax agreed. Then we heard a ringing for lunch. [After lunch.]
We quickly morphed back to human and got our uniforms on before anyone came in. After waiting in the lunch line, and trying to get Ax to limit the amount of food he got, we found our friends and sat down.
"So, how's school going so far," I asked.
"Ugh," Marco groaned as he put his head down on the table.
"My parent's always said college wasn't going to be easy," Cassie remarked. "I just never believed them until now."
"Oh, come on, Marco," Rachel gave Marco a shove. "They weren't that bad."
"I'm sorry, were you even in the same class as us? That Port guy is one of the most boring teachers I ever met. It's like I want to sleep in his class, but I can't because he's that boring!" Marco complained.
"Don't feel bad, Marco," Jake ribbed. "At least you weren't the only one trying and failing to take a nap."
"So, I take it was a mixed bag," I said.
"You can say that again," Rachel agreed.
"I would like to go to human classes again," Ax said while sandwich crumbs fell from his mouth.
"Ax, my man, you really don't," Marco said.
"I'm guessing we learned much of the same stuff," I listed off Aura, Dust, the Kingdoms, the Grimm, the existence of Faunus.
"Yeah, but apparently we're still in the lead for most world wars," Marco quipped.
"It seems to be natural for humans to fight humans, no matter what the planet," Ax commented.
"Yes and no," Jake said. "There was a Faunus Rights Revolution a while back here. Faunus fought for their own rights against humans."
"Faunus," I repeated. "They look like humans with an animal part, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
I thought about Blake and her hidden ears. Was discrimination here so bad that she had to hide herself from even her teammates.
"I'll tell you later," I said. "When's there not too many people around."
Jake nodded, the rest in agreement too.
"Well, we learn one good thing from today," Rachel said. "We know how Aura works."
"Aura?" I repeated. "Isn't that something Huntsmen use?"
"Yeah, and its great," Rachel said giddy. "It basically draws out the soul's power to strengthen the body. You're stronger, tougher, and can take more damage. And there's a chance you get a special power along with it called a Semblance."
"Isn't that we called," I leaned in to whisper. "Morphing to Ruby and her friends."
"Well, yeah, but we can figure something out later. I say we go find and ask them to unlock our Auras."
"I don't know about that," Cassie piped up. "Using our souls as shields sounds...I just feel uneasy about it."
"Even so, how do you quantify a soul?" Ax asked.
"I don't know, but somehow they have. In the combat class today, they were able to project how much a person's Aura was," Jake explained.
"Maybe it's not the soul everyone's talking about," Marco chimed in. "Maybe it's some weird genetic thing people on Remnant just have."
"Whatever. The point is," Rachel said. "There is an ability that can make us stronger. I say we try and see if we can use it."
"We can discuss this later," Jake said. "Because, despite all the good news, there's bad news too."
Everyone except me and Ax looked tense when Jake mentioned the bad news. Guess they knew it before Ax and I did.
"The Sharing is here. There's flyers and posters across the hall on the way to some class. And judging by them, they seem to be expanding fast."
"What about the Sharing?"
We turned to see Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang standing next to us. They sat down next to us too.
"Oh, just how fast they seem to be growing," Jake bluffed. "Given it's sort of new and all."
"Yeah, they have gotten really popular really quickly," Ruby said. "You guys know about it?"
"Yeah, it was in our hometown too," I said. "I'm surprised it's already in Vale. How long has it been here?"
The group said they didn't know how long it had been in Vale, but they guessed a little over three weeks.
"I'm just getting tired of hearing about them," Weiss said. "My father wants me to go to one of their meetings to, and I quote, 'see if they are willing to negotiate a sponsorship'."
"I've heard they're big proponents of human and Faunus equality," Blake said. "I mean, I just overheard some Faunus talking about it."
"What about you guys," Yang asked. "Did you ever join the Sharing?"
What could we tell her. No because its secretly ran by alien parasites who want to enslave the world?
"Well, we went to one meeting," Jake said. "It just wasn't for us."
The rest of the lunch period went on smoothly after that. Eventually, the bell rung and we all started to file out.
"Me and Ax are planning to explore Vale," I whispered to Jake. He nodded and me and Ax split off to find a place to morph. We eventually got to the woods where we demorphed. We took a break before Ax morphed his northern harrier and we took off.
Flying to Vale took an hour's trip, so we explored a little bit before Ax had to demorph. Fortunately, there was plenty of empty alleyways for Ax to make a pit stop.
I surprised me how much Vale resembled our downtown area and yet be completely different. It had the usual places; a mall, parking lots, government buildings. There were fast food places that were exclusive to Remnant. I'm glad we didn't morph seagull because we would have been all over those dumpsters.
A strange thing was how advanced was the technology. Streetlights were made up of see-though material, like a hologram. Cars ran without producing any smoke.
[Man, it's crazy how advanced these guys are,] I said.
[And despite all of this, they still have not entered into space,] Ax said.
Apparently, Dust couldn't work outside of the planet's atmosphere. So while Remnant had the technology to do their own moon landing, they didn't have the fuel.
It was a couple hours of this; flying, mapping out the area, watching Ax as he demorphed and remorphed. Eventually, one building caught my eye.
It was definitely new, judging how there was still construction vehicles behind the building. It was a squat, square building with a white hue structure, blending it in with the rest of the buildings. There was a large banner with lettering so big, it would be impossible to miss it.
[Ax, I think I found the new Sharing Community Center.]
There was a community center in our town as well.
[Yes, I see it as well,] Ax responded.
[They must have been some busy slugs,] I said. [You see the construction equipment in the back?]
[I do. It is most likely that their Yeerk pool is incomplete.]
[Yeah,] I said. [How did the Yeerks keep operations up for so long?]
[Given the nature of Zero Space, it is most likely that some of the Bug Fighter might have onboard Yeerk Pools, not to mention any portable Kandrona.]
[Okay, let's go back and tell the others.]
We flew back, only stopping once to let Ax remorph. We evemtually got back to Beacon and our dorm room. After Ax demorphed, it was just us Animorphs inside.
[The Sharing has a new community center built,] I said. [It's not complete yet, since there's a lot of construction stuff around.]
[It is highly likely that an entrance to the Yeerk Pool,] Ax said.
"Great, so we get in and wreck their operation before they even know it," Rachel said with a grin.
"I would like to remind everyone that we're dealing with a lot of 'ifs' and 'most likelys' here," Marco said. "We really don't have any definite information."
[What's our plan of action?] I asked.
"I don't know yet," Jake answered. "We're still stuck on the whole Aura thing. I think we might need a few more days to be prepared."
"And that's more days the Yeerks get stronger," Rachel protested. "What we need to do is power up and hit them hard."
"Won't the Yeerks already be planning for us since they got here?" Marco said. "Sure, they've probably been dealing with Remnant stuff, but they are definitely planning for any Andalite Bandits, aka us."
"Well," Cassie spoke up. "There might be one way to catch them off guard."
"So, you agree with the Aura plan?" Rachel asked.
"Not exactly, and you guys may not like this at all."
"Oh no, I'm already feeling bad about this," Marco said.
Cassie looked at Jake, who gave her a reassuring nod. Cassie took a deep breath in.
"What if we make a raid on the Yeerk Pool as Grimm?"
Dun-dun-dun! Cliffhanger! I'm leaving that little question in the air before I make the next chapter.
So, the Animorphs have learned about Aura and its capabilities. But how will this affect the war with the Yeerks, who are now confirmed to be on Remnant? And how team RWBY be involved in this as well? Find out next time!
For anyone who read the pervious version of this chapter knows, the back-half of this has been completely changed. Well, to be honest, after getting some reviews, I think I made a mistake with letting the Animorphs know too much too soon. So, we get this chapter. If you liked the other version, well, one, thanks for liking it, and two, I'm keeping this version. I think it just progresses better.
Thank you to everyone who has followed, favorited, and left reviews for this. It's been encouraging to say the least. So, I am asking you to leave reviews, again. They help me know what I'm doing right or wrong.
That's all for now, so see ya next time!
