Chapter Four
The First Obelisk
Asajj and her newly minted apprentice, exited the old ruin with the sliver cube in hand, through the back exit. Shinji examined it trying to determine to open it. Asajj's mind was on Master Zala's final message, obviously, he fell defending this last stronghold, in order to protect the means to finding the obelisks. But what other dark side users might have been here, was her main concern.
It was doubtful that they were alive, but this planet is strong with the light and dark side of the force, so like those guards they fought that had been encased in stone for centuries, there were other hidden dangers that could take them both by surprise at any time. Her eyes darted to her apprentice who was trying to unlock the cube with his hands.
"Apprentice allow me to examine the cube," she said
"Yes, Sensei," said Shinji handing her the cube
"Hmm...this is most similar to the Jedi Holocrons in the Jedi temple, on Coruscant," Asajj observed
"Holocrons?" Shinji asked
"A device created by the Jedi order that contains their knowledge and data. Only those strong with the force may open them. This cube may be an early design of that device."
"How do we open this one?"
"Hmm..perhaps."
Asajj set the cube on a rock nearby. She stuck her hand out and used the force on the cube levitating it,
in mid-air, she focused hard and used her power attempting to open the cube, Shinji remained silent as he watched his sensei attempt to open the cube, her face contorted into an angry grimace drawing on the dark side within her but that showed to have little effect. After a few moments, she stopped.
'Could it be that the dark side is too strong in me?' thought the Dathomirian
"Sensei," Shinji said
"I am unable to open it." she said "But perhaps you can, it's time for your first lesson, apprentice."
"Lesson?"
"Although my major strengths lie in my lightsaber abilities, I do remember some of what my former master taught me about the force itself, now I will teach to you."
"Count Dooku?" he asked
"No, I had another master before him," she said
Asajj placed the cube back on the rock and stood near her apprentice.
"You're going to learn to reach out with the force and connect to it. The force is the energy between all living things."
"Now, eyes closed, clear your mind, let go of your conscious self," Asajj instructed taking his arm and extending it towards the cube.
Shinji did as instructed and breathed in deeply
"Focus only on the object in front of you, feel the energy around it."
Asajj looked at the cube momentarily seeing no movement, then looked glanced back to her apprentice, who seemed to have trouble concentrating.
"Block out everything in your mind, let go," Asajj whispered
The cube started to shake slowly from its rock setting and float up slowly
Rumble, Rumble Rumble
"Yes, Yes. Good."
Shinji focused only on the cube feeling the energy around it in his mind, then levitating it then suddenly the image of EVA Unit 01 flashed within his mind.
"Ah!" Shinji gasped
His concentration broken, the cube dropped to the ground with a thud. The white-skinned woman sighed. She sensed his inner fear rise up, he was filled with much fear like she was once.
'Fear, leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering' a familiar aged voice rang in her mind through the force
'Be patient with him Asajj.' the voice of Master Narec rang in her mind
"I-I-I'm sor-" Shinji started to say
"Do not be sorry!" his sensei snapped already sensing an apology making him flinch
"Be..better, " She added softly as she could muster
Rather difficult to do, due to her training and upbringing in the ways of the dark side.
Whirr!
"Hm."
The top part of the cube opened up, curious and cautious Asajj picked it up.
"Your failure to maintain focus yielded a small success apprentice."
"A...happy... accident maybe," Shinji replied slowly
"In my experience, there's no such thing as accidents. Least of all, happy accidents."
The from the top of the cube produced a small light blue arrow in addition to an image of the planet.
"It seems we have our map, and a compass to show the way."
"Where is it pointing to Sensei?"
"Northeast, it's pointing Northeast. We should get moving."
"Yes Sensei," Shinji said
With that the pair set off, Shinji followed closely behind his sensei glancing at her leaned-toned rear end underneath her purple dress. Strange noises echoed in the sky, Asajj glanced up every trying to sense what might be in the air, the dangers on this world were plentiful. At least here she wouldn't have to deal with those insufferable clone troopers or incompetent battle droids. The pair continued on until they came upon another battleground. Full of skeletal remains and destroyed vehicles and oddly enough frozen dead bodies(Think the kind of draugr from God of War 2018) standing upright frozen in place
"Step lightly apprentice and stay on alert," Asajj said grabbing her lightsaber
"What are those sensei?" asked Shinji
"I do not know," she answered
The pair weaved through the debris field, stepping carefully over twisted wreckage, Shinji felt something pulsate nearby.
"Hmm. Strange, I feel something nearby." Shinji expressed
"What is it?" Asajj asked
"I'm not certain sensei but it's coming from that direction," he answered pointing ahead
"Hmm..good, follow that instinct apprentice. It may yet serve us well."
Shinji went ahead of her, but as soon as Shinji stepped into the line of the frozen statues they started to shake.
"Apprentice!" his sensei called igniting her sabers
"Gah!"
The statues broke free revealing themselves to be undead humanoid creatures. Shinji ignited his lightsaber and struck first using a forward slash, Asajj leaped between two and used force push to blast two apart, causing them to literally fall apart
PUSH!
Shinji had some difficulty at first, but his reaction was getting a bit faster, he avoided being grabbed and decapitated the undead creature with ease. Shinji copied his master's previous action, and force pushed one creature into another
PUSH!
CRASH!
"Hah!" Asajj shouted double impaling a creature from behind
Then used force grip to reducing the remaining ones in husks.
CRUNCH
"You're making a little progress apprentice, perhaps there is hope for you yet."
Shinji brightens up a bit at that. The pair resumed on their way, Shinji took point to find the point to was he was feeling. Sure enough, they came upon an old decayed military command post. Asajj examined the decayed area while exploring amongst the wreckage
"It's resonating here." Shinji said, "But I can't tell where."
"Open yourself to the force apprentice, don't think, feel," Asajj said
Shinji breathed and closed his eyes a whistling sound rang out in his ears; or rather in his mind, the boy wandered around the site for a bit, his hands touching a console something sparked in his mind
"The sith warriors are advancing, Xander held them off long enough for me to get the Obelisk to the ruins." said a voice
"What happened to Xander?" asked a female voice
"H-he didn't make it, it took everything we had just getting to shrine to the northwest and sealing them along with the Obelisk." the voice answered
"Master Zala is still in recovery and we've already lost Xander, Jaken, and Leria. Only myself, you, and Master Zala remain, Katarn." said the female
"I know Allura, we have to trust in the force," said Katarn
The voices suddenly faded from Shinji's mind taking his hand off the console.
"Sensei!" Shinji said
"What did you feel apprentice?" asked Asajj
"I-I think I know where the first Obeslik is," he replied
"Where?"
"In a shrine to the northeast of here."
"Then that is where we will go." She said attempting to adjust the cube to its proper direction
(A Dark Temple on the other side of the planet)
Deep in the recess of a dark temple, on a large midnight black platform, in the center stood a black sarcophagus surrounded by four black pillars with strange runes on them. A small probe floated down from the ceiling above floated straight toward the sarcophagus. It proceeded to scan the sarcophagus from top to bottom, it took several moments, but after it finished, the sarcophagus began with loud clanking noise and hiss,
HISS
Steam spilled silently on the cold floor, a figure stepped out, the figure was dressed in dark clothes from head to toe. He had armored spiked gauntlets on his forearms he had spiked shoulder guards, thick armored boots.
He sported an upper chest plate with a fang-like design in the front. The figure himself was a near-human species, with pale bluish skin, although his skin was scarred across his face and had one dead eye. A few feet away from the sarcophagus raised a small stand with a black and sliver cracked menacing mask. He picked it up and put it over his disfigured face.
"Hmm." growled the figure in a raspy voice
The probe floated down next to the dark figure and it spoke in a mechanical voice.
"Welcome Master Ravage." the probe
"The dark side of the force awakens me." Ravage spoke in a dark raspy tone "After Eons of slumber."
Ravage proceed to step off the platform his steps echoing throughout the chamber, walking down the steps.
"The force awoke me but for what purpose? Could the Obelisks have been found?" mused Ravage
"Droid!" Ravage called as the droid floated down
"In my slumber, what has happened to my army?"
"The army was destroyed, by the shifting energies triggered by the Pyramid, only five of the acolytes returned and are currently in hibernation." the droid reported
"And the Jedi?"
"There are no signs of the Jedi." the droid answered
Ravage was pleased by this news. The Jedi led here by Jago Zala were a thorn in his side, despite Exar Kun's warning before he left Korriban.
"Good, good, with them out of the way, I will be free to-" Ravage spoke
"Master, I must inform you that there is a...unexpected complication." said the droid
"What complication droid?" Ravage demanded
"There are two unidentified lifeforms on the planet."
"Lifeforms? Show me." Ravage ordered
The droid produced a visual image of the pair. A Dathomirian and a human child traveling together
"A Dathomirian?! I have battled with her kind before, but I did not think that one would be so far from home, and human child, I sense that the force...is.. strong with him."
Ravage stared, at the boy and the Dathomirian on screen.
"Droid, what is their current location?" asked Ravage the droid pulled up a map image showing their current location.
"Sensors indicate that the two unidentified lifeforms are traveling through the Lakyrie lands, they may be searching for the first Obelisk."
"Hmmm interesting, that was the site where Zala's whelp defeated Kalora. How long have my remaining acolytes been in hibernation?"
"Over five hundred Steller cycles. Shall I begin the awakening process?" the droid asked as his master nodded traveled to the center of another chamber. Five pods began to rise up slowly around him as lights shone above him. Ravage looked at the pods thoughtfully carefully trying to select one. After a few moments he placed his hand on the one to the right and blood-red light encompassed the entire pod.
"Awaken, my warrior." Ravage whispered in a deathly quiet tone
The pod opened to reveal a shapely female blue-colored Togruta, wearing a black almost dominatrix armored top, with a long black loincloth, with black high -heel boots. On her arms were black wrist gauntlets with two pairs of blade-like cylinders on each one and her eyes were light yellow. She stepped out of the pod and kneeled before her master.
"Master Ravage," she said
"Serleena." he addressed
"What is thy bidding my master?"
"The force is with us my acolyte, soon the power we sought will be our grasp, and we will finish what we started thousands of years ago. But it appears we have...interlopers, droid," said Ravage
The droid produced the image of the Dathomirian and the human child.
"We are uncertain of who they are or why they are here. I suspect they may be here for the power inside the Pyramid. We waged war against the small band of Jedi that followed us. And now they are gone."
"What is your wish?"
"They may prove useful, especially the boy. Observe discreetly, if they prove a threat eliminate them." her master ordered
"As you wish." Replied Serleena departing
As his acolyte left, Ravage, returned to the spot where his sarcophagus stood and in place was a black throne. Sitting upon it, he began to meditate to see the future through the force.
(With Shinji and Asajj)
The pair stopped on their journey to take a short rest. But that rest turned into lightsaber training. Asajj decided to teach the boy a hard-handed method of training. She felt whatever method of combat skill Shinji absorbed from the ancient lightsaber when he touched it wouldn't be enough. Shinji began to pick up the pace, responding to her attacks blocking them quicker and quicker and eventually striking back.
"Good, good, but do not be content with using standard attacks. They become predictable after some time. Learn to switch up your attacks to keep your opponent guessing. " Asajj instructed
"Yes sensei," Shinji said deactivating his lightsaber
"We must continue on, I sensed a shift in the force," Asajj said taking the lead
The pair started off again towards the temple, on their way, they stumbled along a river with fresh water and what seemed like fish (to Shinji at least.
Their still fish, just alien fish)much to their good fortune. So pair stopped and rested ( for real this time). Shinji went about cooking the fish thoroughly for them both and they began to eat. At the time nightfall was beginning to descend, so the pair made camp for the night. While her apprentice went to sleep, Asajj stayed up, evaluating herself and how she was teaching her apprentice.
' Am I doing as well as Master Narec did with me...before his death?' the Dathomirian thought looking at her apprentice
"Did you constantly question yourself as you were training Skywalker, Obi-Wan?" Asajj questioned looking up at the night sky thinking of the handsome Jedi master.
'Do, or do not, there is no try.' a familiar aged voice rang out in her mind
"Yoda."
She looked around briefly before setting her eyes back on the fire. She then noticed her apprentice shivered a little despite being near the fire's warm.
' Perhaps if I get close to him. I could form a force bond with him, to help his progress in the force. And maybe help myself as well.'
With that thought in mind, the white-skinned went over to her sleeping apprentice and laid down behind him, and wrapped her arms around him. Above the pair, in the night sky was the same owl-like creature.
"Hoot, hoot "
Shinji fidgeted in his master's arms a bit before settling in. As he slept, his mind was bombarded with images and voices

A man dressed in white and grey battling with a man dressed in black at the foot of the pyramid,
The pyramids power suddenly activating sending waves of energy.
Asajj found herself within her apprentice's mind, Asajj felt the negative emotions clouding his mind like a raging storm. It did not take her long to find her apprentice, in an odd position, in an upright fetal position rocking back and forth in the center of the negative storm of emotions.
"Apprentice," she said approaching him
CRACKLE!
" Gha! His negative emotions are so strong." Asajj said
"We must help him." said a young voice from behind the Dathomirian
Turning around she saw it was her younger self during her time with Master Narec.
"W-who are you?"
"I am the light that has been buried within you for all these years Asajj. "
"How? I thought-"
"You never fully committed to the dark side of the force, as such I remained buried underneath the anger and hate that was within you, the anger that Dooku and Sidious manipulated and fed," she explained
"Because of Dooku's betrayal and Shinji's appearance I was able to break through the shroud of darkness."
The pair looked at Shinji as he was bombarded with negative voices feeling them grow stronger and louder
"Leave"
"We don't need someone with that attitude here."
"It's all your fault Shinji!"
"No, No." Shinji whimpered
"He is like us, used mistreated, and abandoned."
Ventress knew what that was like and asked;
"What do we do?"
Her younger self smiled and took her hand together and walked towards the boy, slowly but carefully, they approached him and placed hands on him.
"You are not alone anymore, Shinji," Asajj stated
And almost immediately the negative emotions started to ebb away, replaced by a warm feeling, something he hadn't known for a long time a bright blue light was seen shooting into the distance. Within the light, Ventress spotted a human-shaped figure.
'Please watch over him.' a feminine voice echoed
Shinji's eyes started to slowly open he found himself, wrapped in someone else's arms. To his surprise, Asajj had kept him warm throughout the night.
"Sensei," he whispered
Asajj began to open her eyes, and quickly realized what position she was in and quickly scurried away almost embarrassingly so
"Morning Sensei," said Shinji
"M-morning ..apprentice " she stammered
Both rose to their feet, and without delay pressed forward, unaware they were now being followed. Shinji felt a little different for the most part. He felt a bit more connected to his master, Ventress felt a bit..lighter for her part. Both continued to walk in silence passing more debris along the way.
"Sensei I -I feel something near," Shinji said
"I feel it too, we must be getting close."
The ground started to rumble, and two giant bug creatures emerged from the ground. Shinji and Asajj igniting their lightsabers.
"Remember, space your strikes, pace yourself and wait for an opening!"
"Yes, Sensei!"
Shinji broke right, narrowly avoiding sharp pincer strikes, and hit it on the side causing it to scream out and swipe at Shinji, taking a piece of his clothing. Shinji ducked underneath and cut the underbelly taking out the leg,
"Rorggh!" it screamed
Shinji wasted no time in finishing it off by stabbing it. Ventress quickly finished off her bug with ease.
"You were ready this time," she observed
"I was," he replied
"Keep on alert, I sense more dangers ahead as we go on."
The pair climbed up a hillside, to find a stone shrine in the distance(Think the shrine in Breath of the Wild)
"That must be it, I sense power coming from that shrine," Asajj said
The two made their way to the shrine, they spotted a platform with a console and the entrance. Within it a cube-shaped hole
"Hmm.." Asajj went examining the cube
"Sensei," said Shinji
Without answering, Ventress placed the cube inside the slot and the cube began to glow, and the entrance to the shrine opened up.
"Now we know the cube's secondary purpose, come, apprentice," said Ventress
The pair entered the shrine when they walked into a largely empty chamber. But at the end of the chamber was the Obelisk, behind the large protected screen across a large empty space.
"Sensei there it is!" Shinji said running towards it
"Wait Shinji!"
Shinji rushed into the open space, then a protected force field cut him off from his Sensei. The floor suddenly raised up to reveal a humanoid one-eyed droid on four legs. Its sides sprung out weapons, a large blade, and a shield. Shinji activated his lightsaber, the red-eye began to glow and fire off laser shots which the pilot of unit 01 avoided narrowly.
"How am I suppose to fight this thing?!" Shinji asked
"Be strong Shinji, focus, find a weak point," Asajj said
The droid moved quickly towards Shinji clashing its blade, with Shinji's blade, Shinji started off with a few hard horizontals, vertical and underhanded strikes taught to him by his sensei.
CLASH
CLASH!
CLASH!
"Control your central line!" Ventress exclaimed
Shinji avoided a vertical slash and hit a stab only for the droid to block with its shield, causing Shinji to bounce off of it. Shinji remained on his feet and rolled to the other side to cut off two of its legs and hit its side for good measure. But the droid was still functioning as it powered up its eye laser again. This time firing all over the room.
BOOM
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The room filled with smoke Ventress searched for her apprentice through the smoke, to her surprise he was behind the droid.
'Very clever, while the droid fired wildly, Shinji got in close and hide its blindspot.' the Dathomirian thought
Shinji feeling inspired by a famous video game back on earth that Kensuke loved to play. He used a spin attack
"Yah!" he yelled cutting it off the droid at the mid-section.
The droid fell into two pieces and was rendered inactive. The barrier dispelling entrance way went down, allowing his sensei to pass through.
"Well done apprentice," she said examining the destroyed droid
Shinji nodded and followed her through to the Obelisk, the protection screen went down as soon as the pair neared the stand
"Stay back Apprentice," said Ventress stepping closer to the stand.
Asajj slowly reached for the object, lightly grasping it with her fingers. Slowly she took it off the stand, the platform began to rumble, and sink down to the floor. A chill wind passes through them both. Then ethereal energy materialized out of nowhere,
"What's happening Sensei?" asked Shinji
"I don't know," answered Ventress
Then it started to take shape into a form. It was a figure dressed in grey and white robes.
"Who or what are you?" asked Ventress her hand going for her lightsaber
The figure lifted the head, to reveal a dark-skinned female Zabrak.
"My name is Allura, Second knight of the Grey order." the Zabrak introduced her voice echoing

End Notes: Happy May the fourth everyone. How do you like the title change, I felt that Shinji and Ventress title was a bit too generic and plain, the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. Anyone is welcomed to suggest any other story titles. Anyway, this is chapter four, Shinji and Ventress find the first Obelisk and awaken the spirit within of course this was more about them connecting as Master and pupil. Also, the big bad Darth Ravage is Umbaran, he'll be like a mixture of Early Lord Zedd, and Shao Khan (before MK11), and one of his acolytes is a Torguta, not like Ashoka or Shaak Ti but almost as strong. Oh, and if anyone knows someone that does commission artwork, I'd really liked an art drawing of Shinji and Asajj Ventress for the story cover, I'd really appreciate it. Next chapter Shinji and Ventress both face off against the Acolyte Serlenna and they find a new friend. As always read and review and provide suggestions, stay prime, and May the Force be with us all.
