Chapter 4 - Aunt Pamuy
Humphrey's POV
"Well, my name's Humphrey." I answered.
"Humphrey?" Sanny asked, surprised. I noticed she started examining me closely.
"Uhh, that's what I said." I said, confused.
"This may sound a little personal…" Sanny started, "but what's the earliest memory you can think of?"
I looked down in thought and closed my eyes, "umm…cold, wet…" I said, "…thunder…lightning…"
###
Lightning flashed, then the thunder rumbled. I yelped in terror and ran for cover under a fallen log. The rain started to fall, soaking the ground and seeping under the log, getting my fur wet. Lightning and Thunder continued to flash and rumble, as I cowered under the log.
I started digging a small hole in the ground and curled myself up into it to sleep, after I finished. The rain droplets dripped under the log and plopped onto my nose, as the storm continued raging. A tear fell down my face, as I remembered the events prior that day, and I eventually cried myself to sleep, listening to the wind howl through the trees.
I woke up to the sound of a tree falling and opened my eyes just in time to see a tree about to crush me. The sun hadn't even come up yet and the storm was still going hard. I scurried to get out from under the log, but unfortunately, the tree had landed on the log and rolled a little ways. My tail was pinned under the fallen log I was under only moments before and I yippee in pain before whining for help.
Hours passed and the sun started to rise over the trees after the storm blew away. No help seemed to be coming and I was losing feeling in my tail, so I stood up and tried to pull myself out. Nothing. Another hour passed of me trying to free myself, but to no avail, and collapsed on the ground exhausted.
I was about to close my eyes and accept my fate, when I noticed a golden figure approach me. The figure was standing in the sunlight, so I wasn't able to see their face.
"Are you okay?" The figure asked, then cautiously approached me. I whined in pain and looked back at my tail, then the figure gasped and rushed towards me. Once they were closer and blocking out the sun, I saw it was a girl pup about my age. She had beautiful golden-tan fur and her eyes were of a deep amber.
"Look, I'm going to get you out of here, okay?" She asked, "pull your tail out on the count of three."
I nodded, showing I understood her, then she positioned herself to move the log. It wasn't very large, but it was still difficult for a small pup to move.
"Ready?" She asked, then I nodded, "okay, one…two…three!"
She pushed against the log and it moved a little, but not enough for me to pull out my tail. The log was suddenly dropped back onto my tail and I yelped, as I felt my tail being crushed under the weight.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed, "I accidentally dropped it."
Tears started forming in my eyes from the new pain I felt, as I heard paw steps fast approaching.
"Kate!" A female voice shouted with a worried tone, then another golden figure burst out of the bushes. She looked around with a nervous expression, then narrowed her eyes at me.
"What have you done to my daughter?!" She shouted, as she approached with her hackles raised and teeth bared. I whimpered in pain and fear, preparing for the worst, until the girl pup stepped in front me.
"He didn't hurt me, Mom." She said, "the yelp you heard was from him, I was helping him get free, but I accidentally dropped the log."
The girl pup's mother barked and within a second, she was smiling, which unnerved me.
"Well, we better help him out then." She said, "Kate, get ready to pull him out."
The girl pup grabbed my neck in her mouth, while the girl pup's mother got into position to lift the log.
"Okay, on the count of three." The girl pup's mother said, "one…two…three!"
She lifted the log easily and the girl pup dragged me out, then her mother put the log back in its place. The girl pup moved aside, as her mother came over to check on me. I could sense her worry, as she examined my tail, then she clicked her tongue.
"I'll need to take you to our Epsilon to treat this." The girl pup's mother said, "where's your parents?"
"I don't know." I answered, then started hyperventilating, "I-I…don't even know where I am."
I broke down crying, then I felt a lick on my cheek and I opened to see the pup facing me with a smile.
"Hey, it's alright." She said, soothingly, "we're here for you."
I smiled, then I felt something hit the back of my head and everything went black.
I groaned, as I grabbed my head with my paws, then tried to move, but I found my tail was wrapped in a large leaf.
"Ah, you're awake." A female voice said, then I spotted a black and white she-wolf watching me.
She approached me, "sorry about Eve." She said, "she's not exactly gentle, when it comes to moving patients."
"Uhh…" I muttered, unintelligently, "wh-who are you? And…where am I?"
The she-wolf smiled, "my name's Skye." She answered, "and you're in Jasper West."
I widened my eyes in shock and Skye chuckled, "yes, pup…" she said, "I'm an old friend of your grandmother's, but you have to promise to keep that a secret, can you do that?"
"Why?" I asked.
Skye frowned, "let's just say, the pack here doesn't exactly like your grandmother." She said, then shrugged, "anyway, I know you're my friend's grandson, but…what's your name?"
"Humphrey." I answered.
"Well, Humphrey, welcome to the Western Pack." Skye replied with a smile.
"How did you know-" Sanny started, but I interrupted her.
"The only reason I remember all that, is because that was when I met Kate and found a mother of sorts in Skye." I said, then shook my head, "I don't remember anything else."
Sanny sat down beside me, "I can tell you're being sincere and truthful." She said, "I've missed you, Brother."
I widened my eyes and turned to look at her, "you're my sister?" I asked, surprised.
Sanny nodded, "we were born in Jasper South, then after you disappeared, Grandma had us moved to Yosemite, once she found out you were in Jasper West." She explained.
"Who's our grandmother?" I asked, curious.
"Luna, herself." Sanny answered.
"Luna?!" I exclaimed, "the Bane of all Wolves?! The Spawn of the Devil, himself?!"
Sanny chuckled, "that's just what the West wanted you to believe." She said, "Grandmother's very kind and looks out for everyone."
"So, if Grandma knew where I was, then why didn't she come get me or send someone to get me?" I asked, "and why were you and…"
I paused, as I realized something, "we have a younger sister?" I asked.
Sanny nodded, "her name's Lillian." She answered, "and Grandmother didn't go get you, because if anyone from Jasper South stepped into the West, East, or North, it would've been all-out war."
"Why?" I asked, then shook my head, "okay, just start from the beginning."
Sanny sighed, "you disappeared and Skye told us you were in Jasper West." She explained, "Luna couldn't come get you or it would be open war, because of the treaty she made with the West, East, and North."
"And I'm assuming Skye also told you that Kate and I disappeared, so you and Lillian were sent to intercept us, or me at the least." I summarized, "right?"
Sanny nodded, "unfortunately, by the time we arrived in Sawtooth, you were gone." She replied, "and we had no idea if you returned to Jasper, because Skye left around the time you disappeared and came to Yosemite to tell us."
"I asked Salty, after I returned, where Skye was and he said she disappeared shortly after I did." I said, "makes sense now why she did."
The train continued chugging along the tracks, heading towards Yosemite. I sat down by the train door and watched the scenery pass by.
"I guess Mom and Dad are going to be surprised to see me again." I said, then Sanny moved over to sit beside me again.
"They'll be happy." She replied with a smile, "their Alpha son will have returned home."
"Alpha?" I asked, surprised, then chuckled, "I don't know about that."
"You'll learn." Sanny said.
"You said you were an Omega." I said, "but you don't seem Omega-like."
"In our society, Omega's are completely different." Sanny replied.
"How so?" I asked.
"I'll explain another time." Sanny said, "we should get some sleep."
"Shouldn't we be watching for our stop." I asked, confused.
"We won't be getting close until tomorrow afternoon." Sanny explained, as she laid down beside some crates, "now get some sleep, Humphrey."
I laid down beside the crates opposite from Sanny and rested my head on my paws.
So much for being a lone wolf. I thought, then chuckled and closed my eyes to sleep.
Kate's POV
Lillian woke me up way before the sun came up and we were now walking east. Well, Lillian was walking, I was more stumbling with my eyes only half-open from lack of sleep. I kept having nightmares last night about Humphrey, so I wasn't sleeping very well, and on top of that, I had to get up hours before I usually do. Barely five hours of sleep wasn't enough for me, but I had to keep moving or Lillian would leave me behind.
Now I know why we wait nearly two years before training the pups. I thought, but then again, it's good to have that much energy.
"Come on, Kate!" Lillian shouted, as we started climbing a mountain, "get your ass moving before I move it for you!"
Now she's sounding like my Alpha School Instructor. I thought, as I gradually picked up my pace. A few hours passed and I was finally beginning to actually wake up, as the sun rose over the mountains.
"How much further?" I asked.
"It's just down the mountain and about another hour east." Lillian answered, "we'll be there by this afternoon."
I spotted a fallen log nearby and smiled, "or…we can be there in only a couple hours." I said, as I approached the log.
"This is no time for games." Lillian said, she must've realized what I was doing. I dragged the log to the top of the cliff and got in.
"Well, fine." I replied, then smirked, "you can walk down, but I'm going to take the faster way down and get some extra hours of sleep, while waiting for you."
Lillian widened her eyes and I chuckled, "see ya." I said, then moved the log-sled forward and shot down the mountain at a high speed.
Alright, Humphrey. I thought, let's see how well you taught me.
I leaned left to avoid a boulder, then right to avoid a tree stump. After a few more lefts and rights, I was already halfway down the mountain and the slope was beginning to level out. I looked behind me, expecting Lillian to still be at the top, but I widened my eyes in shock, when I saw her running down the mountain, keeping up with me.
Damn, she's fast. I thought, and I thought I was fast.
Her gaze met mine and she smiled, then ran up beside me and, before I knew it, she was running in front of me. Lillian ran right up to a dead tree and did a frontflip into it, kicking it to pieces. She was flying in midair, as a large enough piece of bark landed on the mountainside in front of her, then landed on her new log-sled. I stared at her in shock, as she stuck her tongue out at me and sped down the mountain.
"Ooh, it's on." I muttered, then crouched down to make my log-sled more streamlined. I was slowly catching up to Lillian, then she suddenly hit a rock and I gasped. Lillian's log-sled split into many pieces, but I frowned when I saw Lillian grab one of the flying pieces out of the air. She landed on the piece of bark, while standing on her hindlegs, and quickly zoomed down to the bottom of the mountain. My log-sled slowed to a stop beside Lillian, who was laughing hysterically.
"Oh, that was so fun!" She exclaimed, "I haven't done that since before Alpha School!"
I climbed out of the log-sled and laid down, defeated. Lillian must've noticed.
"You alright, Kate?" She asked, "what's wrong?"
"I miss Humphrey." I said, "I never should've gone through with my marriage, I should've run off with him."
"Yeah, that would've been a better option." Lillian replied.
I looked up at her with a glare, "that doesn't help, you know." I said, "Humphrey invented log-sledding and I thought it would cheer me up…until you demonstrated some skills that I don't think even Humphrey could do."
"True…" Lillian said, then smirked, "but I perfected it."
I glared at her again, "still not helping." I replied.
"I thought you were an Alpha, Kate." Lillian said, sternly, "now get up! We need to keep moving."
I nodded, then stood up and followed Lillian into the trees, heading towards Pamuy's Yellowstone Pack.
Lillian and I continued heading east for about an hour, until Lillian motioned for me to stop.
"What?" I asked.
"We're here." Lillian said, then turned to face me, "stay close."
I moved closer to her and she led me further into the trees. An Omega approached and held out his paw to stop us.
"Miss Lillian." He said, "where's your sister?"
"She's headed home to Yosemite." Lillian answered, "I'm just here to report back to Aunt Pamuy, then we'll be on our way as well."
"We?" The Omega asked, then noticed me standing beside Lillian, "who's she?"
"I'm-" I started, but Lillian cut me off.
"Her name's Kate and my only lead in finding my brother." Lillian said, "she's from Jasper West."
The Omega raised an eyebrow at Lillian, "she's your prisoner?" He asked, then I widened my eyes in shock.
"No." Lillian answered, "she has renounced her pack and became a lone wolf, she's also Humphrey's girlfriend."
The Omega nodded, then stepped aside to let us pass, "she's clear." He said, then turned towards me, "it was nice meeting you, Miss Kate."
"Uhh, yeah." I replied, then I followed Lillian into the territory. When I was sure there wasn't anyone in earshot, I pulled Lillian aside.
"What was that?!" I growled under my breath, "why'd you lie about me?"
"What?" Lillian asked, "you're not Humphrey's girlfriend?"
"That I didn't mind you saying." I said, "but me renouncing my pack?"
"Oh, that." Lillian muttered, "I had to say that to get you in, everyone here hates wolves from Jasper, unless they're from Jasper South."
"Is this about the West, East, and North, revolting against Luna?" I asked.
Lillian nodded, "it's not too bad in Yosemite or Jasper South, because…" She said, "Grandfather Vincent-"
"Vincent?!" I exclaimed, "Vincent the Slayer of Packs?! The strongest wolf alive?!"
"Shh!" Lillian shushed, "yes, he's my grandfather, but like Grandmother Luna, he protects his interests first."
Lillian sighed, "Aunt Pamuy is my mother's sister." She explained, "she isn't related to Luna and Vincent by blood, the only reason she's even involved is because her sister married my father."
"She doesn't believe in Luna's beliefs?" I asked.
"No, she does." Lillian clarified, "she just hates Jasper wolves, she lets those from Jasper South in, because they're loyal to Luna, but no one in the pack, especially herself, doesn't trust any of them."
"Honestly, if Jasper South didn't exist as we know it…" Lillian continued, then sighed, "she'd probably wage war against Jasper."
"Look…" Lillian said, "just…don't mention anything about Jasper around Pamuy, okay?"
I nodded, "good." Lillian said, "now, come on."
We continued walking into the territory until we came up to what looked to be the Alpha den. I saw a she-wolf sitting in front of the den, who had a very similar fur color to Humphrey and lavender eyes like my sister, Lilly. Sitting beside her was…
"Oh. My. Fenrir." I muttered, as my jaw dropped after laying eyes on the mountain of a wolf sitting beside the she-wolf. He looked exactly like Humphrey in fur and eye color, except much older, even his facial features were the same, but he was easily twice the size of Garth, his muscles were so huge.
I gulped, "I take it…that's Vincent?" I asked.
Lillian nodded, "yeah." She answered, "but I have no idea why he's even here though."
We approached the two wolves and they quickly noticed us.
"Ah, Lilly, you've returned." The she-wolf greeted, with a smile that reminded me of my own mother.
"I've asked you not to call me that, Aunt Pamuy." Lillian said.
"Oh, hush, I can call you what I want." Pamuy replied, then noticed me standing behind Lillian, "who's this?"
"Friend of Humphrey's." Lillian answered, "she's also…umm…"
"Spit it out, dear." Pamuy ordered.
"Winston and Eve's daughter." Lillian said. Pamuy raised an eyebrow, then glared at me and bared her teeth.
"So, you're one of theirs." She growled, then attempted to take a step forward, but Vincent held out a paw.
"Vincent!" She snapped, "what are you doing?!"
"Let me speak to her alone." Vincent said, his voice very deep, then Pamuy backed off and nodded.
Vincent stepped towards me, "follow me, pup." He said, as he motioned for me to follow him. I turned to follow him right after I saw Lillian mouth, you'll be fine.
Vincent led me into the trees, "sorry about that, pup." He said, as we walked, "Pamuy has never trusted those from Jasper and probably never will."
"So I've heard." I replied, nervously, "why did you bring me out here?"
"To talk." Vincent answered, then must've noticed my nervousness, "does my size make you nervous?"
I chuckled, nervously, "a little." I answered, "you look like you're part Dire Wolf."
Vincent chuckled, "what's your name?" He asked, "I know you're Eve's daughter, who's Claudette's daughter."
"You knew my grandmother?" I asked, surprised, as we stopped walking and sat down.
Vincent nodded, then looked up to the heavens, "ohh, yes, I knew her, we were very close." He answered, "looked exactly like you when she was your age, we were great friends in our puphood."
"She never spoke of you before she passed." I said.
Vincent sighed, "I'm not surprised." He replied, "after Claudette's son-in-law and the other Pack Leaders of Jasper, she held a lot of things close to the chest for fear of endangering her friends."
"Oh." I muttered.
"So tell me, how do you know my grandson?" Vincent asked.
"We grew up together as pups after he arrived in the Western Pack." I explained, then blushed, "he, uhh…I, uhh…"
Vincent chuckled, "I get it, Kate." He said, "he had a crush on you and, knowing the Western Pack, he was an Omega, so…"
"How did you-" I started, but he chuckled again, interrupting me.
"If he's anything like me, he'd definitely be attracted to you, Kate." Vincent said.
"Does that mean you were attracted to my grandmother?" I asked.
Vincent sighed, longingly, "I was." He answered, then his ears drooped, "but it was never meant to be."
"Well, Pamuy will probably be getting her suspicions right about now, so we should head back." Vincent said.
I nodded, then we stood up and started walking back towards the Alpha den.
Lillian's POV
"What were you thinking?!" Pamuy screamed at me. We were inside the Alpha den and Pamuy was pacing angrily.
"Bringing in a she-wolf from Jasper West?!" She exclaimed, "what's next?! Are you wanting Tony to get in here?!"
"Kate has nothing to do with Tony." I said, keeping my self-composure and remaining firm, "she loves Humphrey and wants nothing else than to be with him."
"Did it occur to you…" Pamuy said, as she stopped her pacing and faced me with a glare, "that she could've just said that to gain your trust?"
"She was speaking the truth, Aunt Pamuy." I said.
"Okay…" Pamuy replied, "but what if she was wanting to use Humphrey to get close to Luna and eliminate her? Luna is our greatest advantage!"
"Luna doesn't need protection." I said, "she can defend herself very easily, and you know what I think?!"
Pamuy widened her eyes at me, "I think your obsessive hatred towards Tony has spread to the rest of Jasper and is clouding your judgment!" I snapped, "Kate told me, her parents and the new Eastern Pack Leader abolished their Alpha/Omega Mating Laws!"
"New Eastern Pack Leader?" Pamuy asked, "does that mean Tony's gone?"
I nodded, "Kate told me, he protected her from a stampede." I said.
Pamuy sat down with a thump and looked down, "hm, maybe I misjudged Tony…" she muttered, then snapped her head up, "but that doesn't change the atrocities he committed in the past!"
"Why do you hate Tony so much?" I asked, "what could he have done-"
"Because Tony is King's brother!" Pamuy snapped.
A/N: Ooh, a cliffhanger, LOL. Chapter 5 will be up later this week.
I have been talking to three other Fanfiction authors (which was partially why this chapter was late) and discussed my A&O/Avengers crossover. With their help (they know who they are), I figured out how I'm going to write it and many other things. I will start writing the first chapter for it as soon as I can, but even if I start it by the end of this week, it won't be posted for a while and you'll know why after I post it.
Please Review! What will happen next? (Personally, I already know, because I've technically cut this chapter short)
Till next time,

P.S. I love reading your feedback! Thank you very much to those who are Reviewing!
