Sorry for the mini hiatus, enjoy! Also a big thank you to the few of you that have reviewed and are liking the story so far!
Mel was now pacing back and forth as she tried to believe everything that was happening in the moment. Gally just sat there still trying to process as well. He knew Newt, her brother. They were together, surviving. Her brother. He was alive. All the hope she lost over the years of seeing him again were now coming back. It was real. But as all of those thoughts came flooding in, they went right back out as she remembered one key detail. Gally was found alone. No one else besides the young boy Gally had said was killed during his trying to stop them all. Thinking back on his story she realized it couldn't been Newt that got hurt if it had gone differently.
"What happened. After you thought you were dying. You only said that you got left behind before the crew came and found you." She asked hurriedly, wanting any and all the answers she could get.
Gally could only shrug and think back on that moment. Still trying to wrap his brain around everything that just happened. "I-I'm not sure. I remember the outside doors opening. Figures. Then they were all rushed out. Its all I know and remember before blacking out."
Mel groaned in frustration. She finally learns her only surviving family member is actually still alive, and now has no idea where to even begin looking for him.
"Well we have to go back, look for signs, search for him." She started to walk off and Gally was behind her instantly.
"Go back? Hell no I never want to go back to that place again. Besides, they'd be long gone by now how would you even know where to look?"
Mel wasn't listening as she continued her fast paced trek towards the housing to grab anything she thought she'd need. Gally sighed and grabbed her arm to stop her, making her turn to look at him angrily.
"Just stop a moment alright? Look you said it yourself, the world is a wasteland now and this is the last city standing. And from what I've seen in the distance, there isn't anywhere to even start looking." He explained bringing his hand back before crossing his arms.
"You cant just give me this kind of information and then expect me to do nothing about it Gally." Tears formed in her eyes and she shoved them away as best she could. Biting back the waver in her voice. "I've been alone for so long. And now I learn that my sibling is out there, alive, probably fighting for their life. He knows nothing about this world."
Gally took a step forward and stared her straight in the eyes. "I understand that Melinda and I'm sorry. But what good will that do to him by going out there and possibly getting yourself killed? Then who am I supposed to annoy?"
His little jab at her made her give a small chuckle, making him thankful he was able to get her to smile, if only for a moment.
"Look, how about we make a plan alright? Let's wait and see if we can't get any more information first alright? Next time one of the groups go out, we'll have them keep an eye out for anything that could help find out where he and the others are. Surely if they were able to find me, they can find them too. Then we go from there yea?" He proposed knowing that anything was better than nothing.
Thinking on it a moment she nodded. She knew she was being hasty, and that mistakes could have been made. She was thankful to have Gally with her in the moment, to help her think more clearly and give a better plan. She was about to thank him just as someone came up to them and interrupted by clearing their throat to get the twos attention.
"He's had long enough, Lawrence want's to meet him now." Was all the man said before stepping aside to lead the way.
Sighing Mel glanced at Gally and only shrugged. She couldn't say no anymore and knew that Lawrence would only throw a fit if he kept being rejected. Gally made himself stand up a bit straighter as he walked out and followed the guy towards the building the resistance claimed for their little base. She only hoped he didn't say anything that would get him thrown out of the city. Tending to him over the weeks as he healed she learned he had quite a mouth on him with his many remarks. But since they've gotten to know each other a bit more she's grown used to it, and being around her he's taught himself to hold his tongue at times just to play nice.
Mel went back to the med room to see if Elise needed help with anything to pass the time. Hours passed and she wondered what was taking so long. Then again, she thought, he didn't need me anymore to show him around. He can go wherever he wants. And figured he had gone off to his own room that he now had.
Calling it a day she decided to go to her room as well and turn in for the night. Her picture placed on the table like always, and she was just about to lay down when there was a light knock on her door. Sitting up she turned on her lamp and called for whoever it was to come in. The door opened and there was Gally. He had a hint of a guilty look on his face as he peeked in.
"Sorry, just felt like I needed to check in or something." He said moving himself into the room a bit more.
She only shook her head and smiled. "That's alright come in. I probably couldn't fall asleep if I tried. It's been quite a day."
He looked around the spacious looking room before sitting in the chair that was next to her desk.
"How did it go?" She asked after nothing was being said.
"He's.. Intimidating. But it actually wasn't all that bad. I think I gave them some good intel. And I asked him about looking for your brother too. He promised they'd look for any signs or hints." He explained leaning back and crossing his arms once again, an annoying habit Mel knew would be hard to break.
"I appreciate that Gally, unfortunately Lawrence doesn't keep many promises so we'll see how good his word really is." Mel said before leaning backward herself, her back against the wall as she sat crisscrossed on her bed.
There were a few moments of silence between them before Mel spoke up again.
"What was he like? My brother?" She started glancing up at him. "There's only so much I remember when we were little, I'm sure he's a completely different person now."
"Well," He started thinking a moment, never really having to describe someone in detail before. "I guess the best word would be loyal. He always made sure to help everyone first. He and Alby kept the Glade running, enforced the rules and made sure everything stayed the way it should. We didn't always see eye to eye on certain situations, but he was a fighter until the very end, we all were."
Mel listened quietly and smiled as she heard him talk about all the things her brother did for their group. He told more stories of the Glade and about everyone else, Mel listening quietly imaging this small world he described. She eventually fell asleep, leaving Gally to awkwardly notice and unsure how to leave. He was never a quiet person for slightly taller size. So the best he could he turned off her light and gently closed her door as he walked out. Looking around he wasn't even sure where to go so he found his way back to Elise and the med room and slept on the beds. His final thoughts also on where everyone else ended up, and if they were even alive.
Alright major plot question, do we ship it? Let me know!
