Question, more so out of curiosity than anything, it's something I thought about while writing when it comes to Breath of the wild stories. Which do you prefer, more savage Link, depressed Link, edgy Link, or some combination of the three no reason, and this won't affect the story; I'm curious?

short chapter today nothing too groundbreaking I'll save that for the following two chapters of this small arc I'm doing

anyway, I hope you enjoy the story and like and review

The air breezed past him, the sound of training and shouting in the air. Link had since grown used to it, and in a way, it felt nice in a weird way. But after getting used to the odd training schedule that the captains gave to him, he had started to find some rhythm in what he considered to be his new life, and right now, he was enjoying what his instructor described as a good break, and so Link wanted to get in some of the fresh air. While in the Domain, the smell of water would permeate the air here. The air felt different, maybe because he wasn't near the water so much.

"Whatcha doing" a voice called Link opened his left eye to see Kiana looming over him, a playful grin on her face "are you sleeping on the job, little knight" she joked before bending down and poking him on. The nose "boop."

"you wish," Link said as he waved her off, "besides, you're the one who called me here." he sat up, scooting over as Kiana laid down next to him, "so what's up."

"what? I can't come to see my favorite student," Kiana asked.

Link rolled his eyes though he enjoyed the jester. The fact that he was her favorite student made him receive many looks of contempt from his fellow knights in training and made many resent him. A few even accused him of being Kiana's daughter, something the shut down as fast as he could. At the same time, he is growing to see her as a mother, but no one could ever replace his mom. "I know it just my fellow knights in training think you're cheating the system since you're so popular among the royal guard and such."

"oh," Kiana pushed the air as if she hit something, "don't let that get to ya, Link," she smiled, "as far as everyone knows, you were raised in Zora's Domain, and that's all, and I found and brought you here out of the goodness of my heart." she ruffled Links head as he looked away "everything you've accomplished, you've done on your own," Kiana told him "don't let anyone tell you otherwise kay kiddo."

"I guess," Link muttered. Honestly, it was recurring to hear from here. A small part of him had started to believe what many were saying that he was just fortunate and everything he got was just from dumb luck though Kiana words did have some merit "besides, I can't let them get to me," Link told her "I need to focus on why I'm here right."

"yep," Kiana told him, "that's the Link I know," she smiled at him "you know why you're here, and you know where trying to go and what you're trying to do, so don't sit around. Trying to validate yourself."

Link sighed, mulling over Kiana's words in a way she was right. He shouldn't worry too much about what others are saying or doing and needs to keep looking forward "thanks', Kiana."

"Hey, what's a friend for" she smiled "besides, I," Kiana stopped herself, sitting herself up and looking at the training going on, smiling as a few memories went through her head. "besides, I've come to enjoy your company."

"Kiana," Link asked, now sitting up as well.

"it's nothing, kid," Kiana brushed him, "just reminiscing is all." a smile flashed across her face "hey, I'll be heading back to the Domain soon," Kiana said," it'll be a short trip, but do have anything you want me to tell them."

Link looked away "no," he said

"you're sure," she said, "no letters, no words, no hey guys, I'm alive. Miss you all."

Link shook his head. He had missed them. There wasn't a day that had gone by that he hadn't thought of Sidon, Bazz, Gaddison, Rivan, or Mipha. he wanted to write a letter to tell them how things were going, but every time he sat down to try to write a letter, he couldn't find the words to say "I just don't what to say"

"I mean," Kiana said, "just tell them about the training how much you miss them" Kiana stopped a teasing coming on her face, "or maybe," she said, dragging out the words, "it's not about sending the letter" she looked at him as Link rose an eyebrow "it's about who going to read it."

"what are you getting at," Link asked.

"oh, nothing," she said, an innocent grin on her face. "I bet you miss her a lot, don't you?"

"I mean," Link started, still not realizing the trap that Kiana was setting up for him, "I mean yeah, we used to for everything together."

"I bet," Kiana said, "she is cute, though," Kiana said. "I sure she feels the same way, Link," she said as a large blush grew on Link's face before he shot up.

"Kiana," he shouted as she started laughing, "it's not," he stopped looking away, "I didn't mean."

"Really now," Kiana, "I mean, you're the one who is being a perfectionist about sending a letter," she teased. "I bet you were going to write a letter just for her too, weren't ya Linky" Links red face was she needed to see "you were, weren't you?"

"I...I don't know what you're talking about," Link said, "she probably would want to know a lot more than Sidon and Bazz."

"sure, Link," Kiana said in the middle of their laugh. "I bet she misses you too, ya know."

"you're impossible; ya know that," Link said, his cheeks still burning from Kiana's teasing. "I just," he stopped himself, "she's a good friend, okay."

"Whatever you say, Link," Kiana told him, her teasing grin leaving as someone approached them.

"Hey Link," he said, "break times over; the captain wants us on the field."

"Alright," Link said. as he stood, "I'll be seeing you, Kiana," Link said, "always a pleasure" he was about to leave when he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder

"Link," her voice was calmer than usual, "take it from me" she looked away "be honest with yourself, and take it from me," she smiled "whatever you want to say to her, say it," she smiled "you don't want any regrets."

"I'll take that into considerations," Link muttered as he walked away. Kiana watched him leave as she started to follow. Soon the pair were on the training field Link stood along with his fellow trainees as a few captains stood in front of them.

behind them, Kiana leaned on a railing. "I don't think I've ever seen you show genuine interest in a recruit before" she turned to see one of her fellow captains approach her "you have him on an odd schedule,"

"is he doing alright," she asked, "ignoring the remark."

"Alright," he laughed, "that kid has breezed through the training so fast I almost want to believe the rumors that he's your kid."

"he's not," Kiana said, her voice cracking, "he's not mine," she said. "I'm not married, nor was I pregnant. Trust me, all of Hyrule would have known." he heard him let out another laugh. She looked on as they had begun sparring; of course, Link was in the ring. The other towered over him though he didn't seem to be in any danger.

"then where you found this kid," he said. "I mean, he says he was raised in Zora's domain, sure, but he never told you who his parents were," he asked.

"Why does it matter," Kiana asked

"Just curious"

"well, it's not our business who the kid's father is," Kiana said as she started to walk away "all that matters is that he's good enough to be a knight."

"I guess," he said, "heard another rumor though," he said, getting her attention as she looked back. "I heard that he was the son of Banzetta," he said "it's a small rumor based on the fact that the man said he was going home to see his son" he looked at her "though never learned his name, and this kid came from Zora's Domain as you put it"

"what are you getting at," Kiana asked

"Nothing, "he said. "I just felt that you should know since you a vested interest in him," he said. They watched as Link had taken down another trainee. It was a short fight. Kiana found herself smiling as she watched the instructor praise Link. "and well, you know you and Banzetta."

"Stop right there," Kiana said, trying to hide the hurt in her voice

"okay," he said, "I can take the hint," he said, leaving the women to her thoughts

'Banzetta, you old fool," she looked at Link as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment, 'you'd be proud. old friend'

Link was unsure of many things when he left the Domain. He was a stranger in a strange world though if there was anything he knew was he ended up enjoying every chance he got to go to Castle town. The sight of Hyrule castle towering over the small community as people walked from their shops to say the area had nothing but good vibes was an understatement. Kiana had decided to take him to Castletown for his day of rest. Most trainees went home or to their village Link; however, they had agreed to go Castletown, something he had put off for a while. They found themselves at Kiana's favorite diner. 'besides, I would be able to get to the Domain and back in a single day.'

"every time you and I eat together," Kiana said, pulling Link out of his thoughts, "you get the biggest and most adorable grin on your face," she told her voice was in its typical joking manner.

"man Kiana" a voice called. They turned to see their waiter looking at Link stuffing an inhuman amount of food. "are you sure this isn't you, kid" he asked.

"what you mean by that" Kiana asked, her mouth just as stuffed as Links which almost made the waiter laugh.

"call it a guess, hon," he said as the knight finished her plate, "he has an appetite that could rival yours."

Kiana let out a loud laugh "trust me," she said as Link had taken even more food "that kid can eat more than me," she muttered, a tad bit of sadness in her voice as she gazed at Link.

"Whatever you say," the waiter muttered as she took the rupees leaving the two.

As the par started to stand up, getting ready to leave to see around, someone looked up. A look of surprise and happiness came over her face as she slowly started to approach them "excuse me, young man" Link turned to see a tall elderly woman. She smiled at him as Kiana stood next to him, looking the woman over Link; however, she felt a familiar presence about her though he couldn't quite place it.

"I uh well, I don't know how to say this," she said, "would the name Medilia happen to mean anything to you."

Link froze his body felt stiff "how do you know that name" he asked. His voice was trembling. Kiana, meanwhile, felt an intuition just in case something happened, prepping herself for it.

"you don't remember me" she smiled a grin that tugged at Links heart strong for the reason he didn't understand. "I'm Edna; I was a friend of your mothers," she said

"your" Link remembered how his mother had told him to go find her. He remembered her smile and the flowers she had sold him. "Ms. Edna"

"now I don't think I ever learned your name, young man," she said, "my must I say you've grown into the spitting image of your father."

Link felt his cheeks grow warm as he looked away "um, my name," he said the thought of that day had thrown him off, but he decided to deal with it later when he was alone "my name is Link," he said

"that is an" Edna seemed surprised interesting and lovely name Link," she said, "oh pardon me, it's nice to meet you."

"Kiana" was all she said, "nice to meet you."

"Good to meet you too; I see you have taken the role of caretaker on my old friend's son," she smiled. "I should thank you,"

"it's no trouble at all," she said, putting a hand on Link's shoulder "this little troublemaker isn't too much trouble."

"well, be in town for the day," she said "then I got to get him back to the training grounds," she explained, "so if you want, I can let you guys catch up."

"no, it's no trouble," she said. "I see you following in your father's footsteps," she smiled at him "whatever path you choose, know that your parents are very proud of you."

They started to walk. Link stopped, a sudden realization coming over his face "umm, excuse me," he said before running back. He started talking to the owner, taking out some items and handing them to her.

"a good boy, that one," Edna muttered. She looked towards Kiana "does he know" a look of sorrow came across her face as Edna let out a laugh. "I'm sure he'll hold no ill will towards you."

"I know it's just," she looked away, "it's not a topic I want to retread," she said, "having with me is the best thing to ever happen to me."

"he should hear it from you," Edna told her, "than to hear it from someone who would be envious of the relationship you have with the boy" she smiled as Link came back to them

"I'll think about it," she smiled "come on, Link, we need to get back," she said, walking off

as Kiana left, Link thought of something "hey, Ms. Edna."

"yes, dear," she asked.

"Could you do something for me," Link asked, a slight smile on his face?

The following day Link was walking the training field when he spotted two of the instructor's conversations. He ignored them till he heard his name me he leaned as he started to Listen in on the conversation.

"yeah," one said. "I mean, it's obvious that's why reasons she so attached to the kid," he explained. "I mean, think about it all adds up now," he said

"I mean, I guess," he said

"you guess," he said. "I mean, think about it Banzetta has an unnamed son, and as we both know, his village was attacked, and he dies there," he paused "then around six or seven years later, this kid who Zora raised appears and is able to go through training that it takes most knights years to get the hang off."

"and how many knights we know have a connection with Zora," he said

"well, when you put it that way," he said, "I mean, you know how they say that Kiana and Banzetta had a thing for each other before he ran off to marry that fisherwoman," he said.

"betraying his countrymen if you ask me," the other said as they started to walk away. "I mean, I understand. Don't get me wrong, but the kid is just genetically lucky, is all."

"that's not a thing," he said

"whatever" as they left, Link remained where he was motionless. He knew he wasn't supposed to hear that conversation, but it hurt him a bit did Kiana shook the thought from his head "she wouldn't do that to me, right."

they were going to meet that day. She wanted to show him something stating that he was finally ready

to say that Link had a little trouble keeping composure for the entire day. The most minor thing would almost set him off. A few of his fellow trainees would do many things to get him to get angry as he most viewed his kind nature, among other things, didn't sit well with them for a reason beyond him. he felt it was a combination of how he got here didn't mind it another day another person who didn't like him he almost wanted to thank Muzu for all the times he would call him out for improper Decorum. However, today was not the day, so to say that he almost killed a few of his fellow knights was an understatement.

and he would instead be eaten by a Hinox before he admitted anything to that old fish

"Hey, tell me," one said, "did the Zora" before he could finish, a broadsword was inches from his face. The blank stare that was on his face promised worse retribution if he concluded that insult "um, I was going to ask if the Zora are going singer" Link could feel the lie, but he smiled as he put his sword back.

"a few" was all he said.

After the instructors said the day was done, Link bid farewell to his captains, still feigning a smile left to find Kiana. She was instructing a trainee giving him some advice; not wanting to interrupt, he sat back as she finished. She bowed her head in thanks and ran off. She looked at Link giving him a warm smile though it faltered when she saw the look on his face ", you okay, kid."

Link sighed " I want the truth," he said, which earned a raised eyebrow as she looked at him "did you and my father have a relationship," he asked the question came out more like a demand than anything, but he had to know.

"like a friendship or" Kiana started when Link cut her off

"you know what I'm talking about," Link said. Kiana said nothing as she walked off, motion for him to follow. Link complied the entire time Link, and Kiana made their trip in silence the cool night breeze. "Kiana," Link tried to get her to talk, "I'm not."

"your father and I were childhood friends," Kiana started, "though over time," she said there was a hint of sadness in her voice, "but as time grew on, we started to drift apart" she looked back, taking in Link's appearance "of course I didn't realize how I felt until it was too late," she said

they stopped. Link t knew where they were in a graveyard. They had stopped in front of pair of tombstones were in the ground a sense of dread came over him as he looked at it "this is."

"where your father and mother are buried, yes," Kiana told him "by the time I saw him again," Kiana said, "he was married." she said, "I know this a lot to take it, but I honestly hated your mother for a bit," she said. the memories of when she found out about Medilia "like a lot of knights I believed that he shouldn't be marrying off to just anyone" she sighed "but."

"but what," Link said "why did you change your mind," he asked. His voice was calm, "if you hated my parents o much, then why."

"I found out about you," Kiana shouted, tears now coming down her face "we ended up talking one day." she smiled "the way he talked about how he was so happy to be a father," she smiled, not giving Link a chance to talk "then I found you in Zora's Domain, and I knew that" she stopped "I knew that I would watch over," she said looking at Link one more time" even if you started to resent me for the reason why" before Link could respond she was gone Link couldn't find his voice. and before he knew it, she was gone leaving him alone

"Mom," Link muttered, "Dad" his thoughts went over how the past six years had been how out of place he's been since though if anything, he couldn't say he was alone he had Mipha then he came here, but he still had Kiana, but he just let her walk away "okay" was all Link said, "thank mom, you too dad."

Kiana had found herself sitting alone by a tree; she was in deep thought. 'I should get ready to go,' she thought to herself as she stood up. Someone pushed a bundle of flowers into her face. She looked overseeing Link. She could have sworn she saw a few tears in his eyes. "Link."

"I could never hate you," he said. "I'" he stopped, "you have done so much for me," he said, "and I" he stopped again. Kiana smiled. Seeing the boy fumble with words made her laugh a bit. before he could finish, she pushed the flowers out of his hand and brought him in for a hug

"you're a brat," she said. "I can see why you're struggling with letters," she smiled "you suck at getting to the point," she heard Link laugh.

"thank you," he muttered, "for everything, Auntie Kiki."

"Link, I swear if you start that," she heard Link's laugh, "you brat," she then started laughing. "you know what? Just for that, I am going to make your instructor give you extra laps."

"eh," Link muttered, "it'll give me something to do."

"goodness, you are Banzetta, son." she said, still having him in her embrace "you should be getting to training, young man."

"I know"

"you're going to be late," she continued

"I know"

"and get in trouble."

"I know"

and with that, we have the end of today's chapter, so as always, I want to know what you think and like and review
