TSOAE Ch.4: Back to School, Part 1

2:00 a.m, Sunday. January 26th

POV: Rogue 5

I was escorted into another warehouse by one of the scientist's bodygaurds. She moved from a large amount of these buildings every week, as to avoid getting caught. Where they were, I didn't know. They'd knock you out, whether it be a drug or concussion, before they made any move towards her current hiding hole.

It was time I gave her my report. I couldn't find everything on each of them, but I had info on all of them. A few of them were easy to spy on, since I was watching them at the time they were crowded by news reporters. But even then, I couldn't pick up on anything habit-related for the ones being interviewed. Right now, I've filled the quota on only one of the experiments and I vaguely had notes on the other 7.

As I was being dragged down a hallway, I started thinking to myself. I wonder where the other two vials are. I don't think they can reverse the effects, but maybe cops can find a way to track that back to the scientist... My entire team, when we were still a team, never figured out what her name was. We ended up just calling her "The Scientist" because of what she does. She'd hire us to cleanly kidnap people as "test subjects", but I think she just enjoyed watching her victims suffer the side effects of here inhumane experiments. The only reason we were still working for them after the first job was because we didn't want to end up like her discarded science projects.

The man dragging me opened a door and threw me in. It looked like every other one of her rooms: island tables, cages of different sizes at the side of the room, different colored fluids inside beakers and other measuring devices. Just imagine a psychopaths' evil lair and you've got the picture. Since she practically lived in these rooms, there were also a couch and TV in a corner of the room.

At the back of the room was the Scientist. She seemed to be observing one of the things inside the smaller cages. Walking up to her, I notice that there was a parrot inside. Walking up even closer, I notice the bird had 4 fucking wings. The normal pair, and featherless limbs with veins visible extending out from each wing. She watched the bird struggle to fly before noticing me. "Ah, Rogue 5! Please, sit". She beckoned my over to some stools nearby. "Have you completed your task? I'd love to hear more about my most important specimens"

I didn't answer. Instead, I focused on the bird. I didn't want to break the bad news to her, and I was a little worried for the bird. It wasn't just the wings that looked horrible, it was the entire bird. The bird itself looked to have feathers missing in some places and had dried blood on whatever feathers it had left. What really weirded me out was the eyes. They were blood red, just red. No Iris or pupil, the whole eyeball was the same color.

The Scientist noticed that I was watching the poor creature. "Oh yeah, here are one of my earliest subjects. At the time, I wasn't 100% in changing a living being's anatomy, so here he is. Even though I was able to make him grow extra appendages, it seems the rest of his body can't keep up. It's failing to maintain it's body while providing everything to the new wings. It's a miracle that he's still alive, even after my other experiment...".

She left it at that. I was terrified to think that about what the other experiment was, so I didn't press on the matter. Satisfied with my silence, she continued. "So, were you able to get all the information I required?"

Shit, I thought. "N-No, actually". She frowned. SHIT! "Uhh, half of them are staying in their homes, a-and It's difficult to get anything when they're in public because of the media" She stayed silent and maintained eye contact. S-H-I-T! C'mon! Think of somethin, me! "B-But I have an idea"

She cocked a brow at that last part. "Go on".

Fuck, I really don't want to do this, but I don't have any other options. I let out a sigh before continuing. "...I can enroll into their classes if you have friends pull some strings".

Now, I'm not exactly a kid, but I'm still 17. I never liked the idea of taking classes, my parents sold me to some rich creep at a young age. After running away from that asshole, I met the rest of the rogues and lived a life of crime for another 8 years. I never actually went to school. Despite all of this, going to school was probably the best option to avoid the pain of being a lab rat.

She seemed to like the idea I made up on the spot. Smiling, she agreed. "Alright, then you'll need a guardian and an actual name. If you show up with neither, then you won't be able to get any notes on my subjects before you get caught. Now, I'll cover the guardian and enrollment part. The only thing you need to do right now is get a fake ID and a name that isn't 'Rogue 5' before Monday morning" She then went into another room to make phone calls for the arrangements. "You're excused now, by the way. Brute, If you will"

A bodyguard at the door came over to me and proceeded to escort me out of the after giving me the pill to knock me out. As consciousness left me, I started to think about how I'd get my ID and how I'll be getting those notes.

6:30 a.m, Monday. January 27th

POV: Lux

It seems like my weird insomnia problem has kind of fixed itself, or maybe it's because I'm a Lucario now. I was able to get good sleep for a good three days, but I woke up before dawn the other two.

It's been about a week now, and we're all able to go back to school. Throughout the week, I never gave my name to the media whenever I went out. All they got was "Mr. Lucario". I didn't see Dan or his family while I was out. Because of that, I was worried that something might have happened to them. Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything about it because I forgot to get a phone number or address from the family before I left.

Also, I looked into the move set of Lucario and started training. Turns out the move I used at the beach was called [Extreme Speed]. I also took a look at the other moves that Lucario can use. [Aura Sphere], [Metal Claw], [Bone Rush], [Heal Pulse], etc.. I tried looking into Utility and Self-Defense Moves before I tried the fancier business like [Sword Dance] or [Dragon Pulse]. I went to train at the bottom of that cliff, where I sprinted away from the eyes of the media.

Unlike the games, I can use way over just 4 moves. Also, [Extreme Speed] acted as some kind of speed boost for me, so I guess the move itself is just rapid-fire punches and kicks to the enemy. So far, I've got [Life Dew], [Heal Pulse], [Rock Smash], [Force Palm], [Extreme Speed], [Detect], and [Metal Claw] perfected. By perfected, I mean I can use these moves without any problem or that I can hold them up for a long time. I'm still working on [Aura Sphere] and [Bone Rush], Since both of those need more aura training to make them stronger and last longer. I need to concentrate on focusing aura to make a condensed sphere or to shape it into a bone staff. Not that I'm going to need those moves anytime soon. I'm sure the moves I've got right now are more than enough for anything coming my way.

Getting out of bed, I start to get ready for school. I wasn't exactly exited to go, but I want to get back to some kind of normalcy in my life. Sure, I'll probably get headaches from the waves of questions from both students and reporters, but I was starting to get bored of practicing moves on boulders I found at the Cliffside.

Once I packed together stuff I'd need for school, I went to the kitchen and made breakfast. Nothing crazy, just hashbrown and eggs. My diet hasn't changed in the slightest, I was still able to eat just about anything I could have as a human. I was adding ketchup to the hashbrowns when I spilt some on my fur. I was about to lick it off like a damn Neanderthal, but then I caught a whiff of my fur, and I almost puked.

I smelt awful! I swear, god would cry if he could smell me all the way up from heaven. At that point, I realized I forgot something for the billionth time. Oh fuck, I haven't taken a shower all week. With that thought, I downed the rest of my breakfast and went to the shower with a towel. I almost grabbed some clothes from the drawer out of habit, but then I remembered that I went everywhere naked anyways.

I have to say, Showering with fur kind of sucks. It took forever to get the dust and smell out. It took a while to dry myself off as well, and even then my fur was still kind of wet. I eventually gave up and decided to dry it all off when I went to school. I went to check on the mail while taking the trash out. I found two letters and a package. The package and one of the letters was to my mom. The other was, surprisingly, to me. I was sort of worried if my address was leaked and that reporters would be able to storm me with questions now, but then I noticed that the letter came from school. I put everything at the dining table and opened my letter.

In short, It says Mr Halwalt, my school's principle, wanted to talk with me regarding my future before school started. I guess being a Lucario must've brought this up. Whatever, I'll just head over there to see what's up.

I left a note to my family to tell them where I went, grabbed my backpack, then used [Extreme Speed] to dash to school while drying my fur.

Once I got there, I slowed down and walked into the parking lot. Of course, I spotted more news vans, and more reporters in clusters talking amongst each other. It seemed that they were fucking camping the school so that they can force their endless streams of questions on unsuspecting students, or even get a glimpse at a few of the victims. I didn't know how much of the shooting story got out, but I knew it wasn't hard to piece that and the new Pokémon together.

I didn't want any of those assholes to get any story and I didn't want to be on camera again, so I walked around the entire parking lot to avoid them. It only took five minutes, and I made it to the principals office. The room was simple: two chairs next to each other, the principles desk, and the cushiony chair behind the desk. Of course, Principle Halwalt was on that desk. He wasn't anything too special. Black hair, white skin, simple build, brown eyes, brown suit, blue undershirt and tie, and he's... 6'08". I was always most irritated of shrinking down to 4'00". Now anyone that wasn't a child or midget fucking towered over me.

He didn't seem too surprised to see me, which I was grateful for. Of course he isn't surprised or shocked. He called me here, so he must have known of this transformation. Must be the perks of being a principle. I sat myself down and he started by greeting me "Ah, Mr. Rilvo. I guess you know what you're here for?"

God, I hate this guy already. He said that with a tone that just got on my nerves. I didn't say any of that to his face, for obvious reasons. This is my first time meeting the guy, and he already gave me those "piece of shit" vibes. Anyways, I didn't let my irritation show and just answered. "It's because I'm a Lucario, Right? What did you mean by talking about my future? I'm staying in school since I need at least a High school diploma to get a decent job, but I'm going to college to get an engineering degree" I decided to cut to the chase so that I could end this as soon as possible. I didn't really have anything else to do, but I didn't exactly have a good impression on the guy so I wanted out.

"Yes, of course. But I mean the near future. We can't have you participating in sports anymore, and I've been told that police are coming soon to revoke your driving permit". He said that without any hesitation or reaction to my telepathy. Almost like he kne-

"Wait, what?". I just processed the words that came out of his mouth. I haven't even thought about all of that. I wasn't too concerned about the driving permit, since I can run faster than a car could go at this point. I was more concerned about the sports stuff. I didn't even think about that, fuck. At least that'll be a free period where I can just chill. After thinking about it some more, I thought that he was making the right choices, but I didn't get why I can't have my permit. "Alright, I get that I'm not eligible for sports anymore, but why do I need my driving permit revoked?"

"You can't really drive with paws now, could you? I guess the cops don't think it's safe for you to be driving. Besides, I'm sure you don't really need to use a car now, with your newfound speed."

"Well, no. But there's no rea-..." I stopped myself. How can he know about my abilities? I haven't shown anyone anything yet.

I confront him on the matter, and he loses his composure. "W-Well, you're a Lucario. Pokémon, from what I can remember, are far stronger than humans" He starts sweating as he goes on. "I-It's only reasonable T-that you could run faster than cars"

That does sound like a good argument, but I can tell he's hiding something. I can literally feel the nervousness and panic in his aura, and something was telling me deceit was afoot. I was starting to feel really uncomfortable at this point, so I dropped the subject for now and got up. "Fine then, I'll give them my permit when they get here"

"Oh! One more thing" He opens a drawer in his desk and pulls out a slip of paper. "I've changed your schedule so that you share classes with the other students that have been turned".

Okay, now I was starting to get fucking suspicious. Why would they do that? I don't know them and they don't know me. Could they want to monitor us? Stop us from doing any damage? I didn't have any answers, and I could tell I wouldn't get any from Mr. Halwalt. I sighed before grabbing my new schedule and heading towards the door. "Fine, then. If that's all, I'll be going now. Bye" I walked right out before he could get another word. Fucking finally.

I looked down at my new schedule. English, Algebra, History, Chemistry, Football, and Spanish in that order. I was surprised I still had Football. I guess I just can't play in games. Ah well. I went down the hallway and opened the door for my first period.

I have to say, both the class and I were surprised at what we saw. The class for obvious reasons. Me? I saw two other Pokémon. Fortunately, one was Dan, who smiled and waved upon seeing me. The other sat next to him. It was a white squirrel looking thing. It had a light blue stipe of fur running along It's head to it's tail. It also had some yellow fur on its cheeks, much like Dan. Great Dan's here. I guess he can fill me in on who the pachirisu is.

The rest of the class, Including the Elesquirrel Pokémon and excluding Dan, gawked at me like they were dreaming. I sighed in irritation, then made my way over to the two Pokémon. Fortunately, there was an open seat next to Dan. I sat down and greeted him in Poke-speech.

'Hey man, Long time no see'.

'Lux! Great to see you man.' He seemed exited about seeing me again.

'Yeah. Say, who's the pachirisu? I can't really recognize them as anyone since, well, this happened' I gestured to myself and the other humans-turned-Pokémon.

'Oh! This is Penny,' Penny waved awkwardly as Dan introduced her. 'She recently switched over to my class after a meeting with the principle. Did you have a talk to him as well?'

'Yeah, he told me about my new schedule and how I ca-' The bell rung as I was talking. 'Damn. I guess we'll have to pick this up during lunch.'

Fortunately, all of my classes up to lunch have been pretty uneventful. The cop had shown up and took away my driving permit during our two minute exchange. I still got a lot of glances in my direction, but nothing too crazy. I think someone was taking notes about me? Like, they had a notebook and wrote something down with every glance he got. It was weird enough to raise my suspicion, but I didn't want to start a scene in class.

Once I got to the cafeteria, I was able to get myself a chicken sandwich and some milk, the usual. I didn't have any friends, so I usually hung around the library or walked around the school while I ate. This time around, I was looking for Dan and Penny, since we wanted to talk about the obvious constant in all our lives.

I found them at one of the tables outside. They had other students around them, and It looked like Dan was familiar with them. I guess those are some friends of his. I didn't really want to interrupt their conversation, but I also didn't want to awkwardly stand around waiting for them. I walked to them as they paused for some unknown reason, It seemed that they were just starting to get into more serious matters.

"...So Dan," One of the kids, blonde hair and green eyes, started. "How do you think you're love life is gonna be?" He gestures to Penny with a grin on his face. "I don't want to make assumptions, but you're sitting around with another Pokémon, and you know I like to let my mind wander". Oh, so not so serious.

I turned to Dan. It looked like he took my advice and had a notebook and pencil out to "talk" to them. Though, he seemed too shocked to say or write anything coherent. Both he and Penny had pretty noticeable blushes on their faces.

'Ah... W-Well...' God, he was a mess. He's too dazed to remember that they couldn't understand him. His eyes darted every direction, looking for a way out of the question. He saw me and started pointing his paw at his convenient saving grace. 'L-Look! It's Lux, guys!'

Having finally being roped In, I walked towards them and introduced myself. They didn't seem too startled, so I guess Dan had told them about me. I wasn't mad or anything, but I was worried that he told them about my small stunt at the beach.

After Introducing myself, the blonde came up and shook my outstretched paw. "Pleasure to meet you, Lux. We're all Dan's friends since before, well... he turned into a raichu. Anyways, I'm Tyler, the brown haired kid's Kevin, and the Black haired one is Paul" They waved their hands respectively.

Now that Introductions were done for, I started exchanging stories with them. I won't tell every story, most of them are boring. The most Intriguing stories came from Penny and Dan, more specifically their tales of the shooting.

Dan had been In one of our fancier freshmen classrooms, the theatrical kind with the desks and all that jazz. It was on the first floor and a rogue had cleared a classroom right next to theirs. In panic, most of the class had ran away through the window, while Dan and the others stayed in fear of a rogue waiting out there. Once the rogue had busted the door down, everyone had started crowding around the windows. The rogue was about to shoot them down, but Dan had thrown a few chairs and textbooks at him from the other side of the classroom before ducking under the desks for cover as the shooter tried to gun him down. He popped back up from somewhere else and threw more junk at him, distracting him long enough for the rest of the class to escape. He kept at it for a good five minutes until the rogue actually ran out of ammo. Finally, he ran at Dan and injected a yellow vial into his shoulder. The man left his body there as he started to turn.

As for Penny, she hadn't been in a classroom when the shooting started. She was able to hide for a good ten minutes in the bathrooms outside with a few other girls. Soon after, one of the rogues had walked past the stall she was in and gunned down one of the girl two stalls down. Terrified of thinking about who was next, she started formulating a plan with the stuff in her backpack. While thinking, she heard the sound of moaning and slaps from her right. Her brain ran a million miles an hour and she decided to run while throwing things out of her backpack. Fortunately, water from a bottle she had and hand sanitizer she kept with her had mixed together and sloshed all over the bathroom floor. As she ran out of the bathroom, She heard the man slip and fall with a loud thud. On one hand, he was angered enough to the point where he forgot about the other girls in the stalls, so Penny saved them. On the other hand, he was angered enough to the point where he forgot about the other girls in the stalls, meaning all of his attention was on Penny. The rogue had caught up to her in only a couple of minutes, and sloppily injected a white vial on her thigh since she kept squirming and kicking him in the balls whenever she could. She wanted to make her death as annoying to him as possible, but she got turned into the pachirisu I see in front of me Instead.

'So what about you?' Dan asked. 'What did you do to get turned into a Lucario?'

"I don't know what Dan said, but I'm pretty sure It's about your story, which we'd also like to hear" Tyler said.

I really wanted to avoid this, but I didn't have a ray of light like Dan did to get out of the situation. I began retelling my story. Everyone was horrified when they heard how I savagely slaughtered the first Rogue, and the fact that I was the one who killed the other rogues as well. I had struggled to broadcast that to the small group as they looked at me with gaped mouths'. I guess my story is a bit more gruesome than theirs, but at least I told the truth. I still felt that something bad was coming my way for killing three men, even If they were murderers themselves.

It got awkwardly quiet after that. I was glad people couldn't eavesdrop on me when I use telepathy, cause I noticed a group had amassed around us. Some had cameras out and recorded me while I told the story. Of course, they got fucking nothing since I sent it to just my group's heads. Maybe it's because there's three Pokémon in one spot?

I had just continued to eat after that, while getting a feel for mixing my aura sense with my eyesight. It was going pretty well. I could see aura being emitted from everyone like there's a different glow to each person. I saw different colors of aura and felt different emotions from each person. When I focused on Tyler, I felt that he was playful and made a lot of jokes. Kevin was thinking deeply about something as he stared off into space. I felt that Paul was A bit dense and uncaring, but he was there for friends in trying times. Dan, as I assumed, was naïve and a little hasty. Pretty fitting for a man-turned-raichu. Finally, I saw that Penny was shy and reserved around large groups of people. Again, apt for a pachirisu. I didn't need to use aura sense to tell that, though. She was sitting close to Dan and trying to hide from the crowd that had gathered. Geez, no wonder Tyler had started to talk about his love life. It's like she's clinging onto Dan.

The bell had rung and we had to make our way back to class. After waving to the group, I stalked off to my last two classes.
