Chapter Four – Mother's Day 2021
She woke up to a brilliant sunny day in Washington. The light beamed into their bedroom from the White House's oversized windows. Once again, they had forgotten to get back up and close the windows the night before. She rolled over in her light blue lingerie and laid a hand on Henry's chest gently rubbing to wake him up.
Without saying a word, he rolled himself on top of her and began to kiss her passionately. Mother's Day was the one of the few mornings of the year, the staff was off and they wouldn't come looking for her first thing in the morning. She ran her hands in his hair and down the back of his neck. They began where they left off last night with a lust-filled session of exploring each other. When they finished and regained their normal heart rhythms, he reached over and took her hand, "Happy Mother's Day." She laughed, "Never thought the day would come so fast that we would spend Mother's Day morning alone."
"Babe, Alison and Jason plan to check in with you and Stevie is going to the game with us." He answered her getting out of bed and heading to the shower.
She followed him. "Might as well take advantage of it."
In the steamy shower, Henry ran his hands down the sides of her waist. "You really missed me on this trip this week, didn't you?"
She looked back at him with so much love, "I did and we always need time to reconnect."
"Oh I get that. But, we've been going at it since you got back last night." Henry laughed.
She turned her backside to him and began to lean over. "You complaining?"
He lowered his voice down to a sexy grovel, "Not at all."
A quick breakfast and her coffee in a travel mug she headed downstairs in her jeans, a white dress shirt and her Chucks. After her morning briefing she would head over to the Nationals game to throw out the first pitch.
She hopped in the car with Henry and Stevie already in there. Stevie handed her a beautiful bouquet of flowers full of yellows and pinks.
"Are you nervous for today?" she asked her mother.
"To throw out the first pitch? No. To throw out the first pitch in front of thousands of fans? Always. Speaking of which, did Matt put a bag back here?" she asked.
"He did. And I brought one in case he forgot" Henry said handing it to her without looking away from his phone.
She looked at Stevie and back to her husband, "Henry?"
"Sorry, texting Daisy and Blake." He said again not looking at her.
Elizabeth crossed her arms knowing something was up with her husband. "Are we going to get to the ballpark and Alison and Jason are going to be there?"
Stevie answered looking right at her mother so she knew she wasn't lying. "No, absolutely not. Allie has a meeting tomorrow in New York and Jason is in finals."
First pitch went off without a hitch even with Elizabeth breathing into a bag the last five minutes of the ride. The Nats beat the Pirates, which left Elizabeth playing the competitive card of my team beat yours.
They were walking back into the residence for dinner, Elizabeth and Henry hand in hand with Stevie following. She had Allie and Jason on Facetime, which Elizabeth did not know about.
The bark is what tipped her off and Elizabeth stopped dead in her tracks as the most adorable yellow lab puppy made his way to her behind Hope. The dogs greeted them as she looked to Henry and asked, "Is he ours?"
"He is. He failed Secret Service school. I spotted him the other day when n I went to do the annual PSA spot for the dogs. Isn't he adorable?" Henry crouched down to meet Elizabeth's eyes and pet Hope.
Elizabeth petted his head and scratched behind his ears. "Let me look at you!"
She picked his face up to hers. "Oh you are so cute. What's his name?"
"Max but we can change it if you want," Henry told her.
"I think I like Max. Max and Hope go well together." She smiled back at Henry and Stevie and then she noticed the phone.
"Are you recording this? Please say "No." It was then that she heard Alison and Jason laughing.
"Hand me that phone, I want to see my babies." She took the phone from Stevie and the two yelled "Happy Mother's Day, Mom!"
"Oh you guys! This has been the best Mother's Day ever!" she said getting teary eyed again.
Jason rolled his eyes.
Stevie left after dinner. Henry and Elizabeth took the dogs for a long late-night walk around the grounds and made their way back to the residence.
Max was settled in his crate and Hope was asleep by their bed. Henry and Elizabeth finished off Mother's Day the way they normally did by making love. When they finished, she turned to Henry and said "Maybe Mother's Day alone isn't so bad. How many weeks until Father's Day?"
Henry laughed. "Any year is better than the year Jason puked on you. Still the grossest moment of our parenting years. "
"Oh God! There were so many. Who knew three kids could decide to puke at the worst possible moments?" she laughed along with Henry.
Henry said, "We've made it through so much! I hope you know I would do it all over again with you if we could."
She flashed her gorgeous blue eyes back at him "Same, babe!"
He rolled on top of her kissing her again. "Happy Mother's Day, Madam President." She furrowed her brow. He knew how much she hated when he used her title.
He set back a little and said, "I needed just the one tonight."
"Well, that's all you are getting, Captain." She leaned up and kissed him. They fell asleep in each other's arms just like every night.
