Shelby had been working in Chicago for little over a month now. Intelligence was still looking into Markus but they were coming up empty. He had once again disappeared.

Shelby was getting ready to go out with Jay, Lindsay, and Adam. She felt it was time for her to get out a little and see Chicago's night life.

Shelby was getting ready when there was a knock at her door. "It's open!"

Shelby's front door came open and Adam Ruzek stepped in. "Hey Shelby."

"Hey Adam." Shelby walked over and wrapped her arms around Adams neck and gave him a kiss.

She wasn't looking for anything serious and neither was Adam. "You ready to go?"

"Yes I just need to grab my bag." Shelby walked to her bedroom and grabbed her black clutch purse. She then rejoined Adam out in the living room.

They both exited Shelby's apartment and met Erin and Jay in the hallway. The group headed out for the night. Shelby rode with Adam to the bar and Jay and Erin rode together.

Once they arrived Shelby looked at the sign and it read Molly's. They then headed into the bar. Shelby looked around and loved the atmosphere. It was a cute little bar. Shelby and Erin took a seat at a high top while the guys went and grabbed them beers.

The guys came back with the beers and joined the girls handing them each their beer. "So you guys have any interesting cases lately?" Shelby took a drink of her beer.

"Nothing too crazy. It's actually been quiet." Erin and Jay both shot Adam a dirty look. "What?"

"Dude you know the second you said that you just jinxed us."

"Oh please. It'll be fine." The group of four continued to talk. The bar became more busier as the night went on.

"So there is still nothing on Markus?"

"No unfortunately. Voight has put done everything he can to make sure if he's spotted he is taken into custody. Shelby nodded and took another drink of her beer.

A perky short hair blonde girl walked up to their table. Shelby recognized her. It was Brett from 61.

"Hey Brett."

"Hey Jensen. I thought that was you over here."

"Yeah just hanging out with these guys."

"Hey Brett." Shelby then realized they all already knew each other.

Brett said hi to Jay, Lindsay, and Adam. She then turned her attention back to Shelby. "So Jensen I was wondering if you had a second I'd like to introduce you to squad 3's Lieutenant."

"Sure why not. Be nice to know other firefighters besides my guys." Shelby stood up and grabbed her beer. "I'll be right back."

Shelby and Adam shared a quick kiss and then Shelby followed Brett over to another set of tables filled with more guys. Whom she assumed were also apart of firehouse 51.

"Hey Guys" Brett got the attention of everyone at the tables. "I wanted to introduce you to squad 6's Lieutenant." Brett stepped aside so Shelby could step forward.

"Shelby?" Casey stood up and locked eyes with her. Brett was caught off guard not realizing they knew each other.

"Matt?" Shelby wasn't sure how this conversation was going to go. She didn't know if Matt hated her or not for what she did to Kelly.

"So it is you. I didn't think you would ever come back here."

"The opportunity presented it's self so here I am." Shelby started to scan the rest of the group. She had a feeling if Matt was around Kelly was probably there too.

She wasn't sure if she should turn around and run in order to avoid Kelly altogether or if she should stay.

Brett must of caught sight of Kelly before she did. "Severide! Over here!" Brett waved Kelly over to the group.

Severide made his way through the crowd and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Shelby.

Shelby could feel a lump forming in her throat. She wanted to run but her feet wouldn't move. Instead she just stood there and stared into the blue eyes that stole her heart when she was a teenager.

Everyone was just watching the two of them staring at each other waiting for someone to make a move.

Shelby was broken out of her trance when Adam grabbed her arm. Shelby turned her head and looked at Adam .

"Hey I'm sorry we just got called in. A major case. I can take you home."

"I'll just call a cab. Go Adam I understand." The two shared another quick kiss and Shelby waved by to Erin and Jay. The three of them headed out of the bar.

Shelby turned her head back around and Kelly was still standing there just staring. Shelby couldn't get a read on him or what he was feeling.

Shelby quickly finished her beer and then put the empty bottle on the table and left the bar. She didn't make it very far. After she exited the bar she just leaned against the wall outside trying to collect her thoughts.

Casey walked up next to Kelly. "Severide go."

Kelly snapped his head over to look at Casey. Kelly then grabbed his jacket and ran out of the bar after Shelby.

Matt turned back around to the guys. "Who was that Casey?"

"Have any of you heard Kelly talk about the girl from high school that stole his heart?" They all nodded their heads. "That's her."

Everyone was shocked. Kelly had talked about this girl like she was still the love of his life. They never thought in a million years she would just show back up.

Kelly came out of Molly's and looked up and down the street to see where Shelby had gone. He was slipping on his jacket and was about to get in his car. But then a voice caught his attention.

"Hey Kelly."

Kelly turned around and there she was leaning against the wall. "Shelby."

Kelly walked closer to her. Shelby pushed her self off the wall and walked closer to Kelly. "It's good to see you."

"You too." There was a moment of silence. Neither of them knowing what to say. Shelby didn't even know why she didn't keep walking but her body just pulled her against the wall telling her to wait. Part of her hoping he would chase after her.

Shelby was trying to break the silence. "I see you followed in your fathers footsteps."

"You too." Kelly took a deep breath not sure if he wanted to open this conversation but he had too at some point. "Why did you come back?"

Shelby sighed. She didn't really want to do this tonight. " I've always loved Chicago Kelly. It felt like home. It's where I made some amazing friends who I missed dearly."

Kelly could feel the rage building up inside him. "Yeah well where were you when Angie died? Or Andy? Or Hallie? They were your friends too."

Shelby was taken aback by Kelly's tone. "I was there for Angie. She found me a few years after I left through social media." Shelby paused for a moment. "You never even tried!"

"You broke up with me remember!? You left. You changed your number. Not me!" The anger Kelly had carried around for the last 10 years was overflowing and coming out all at once.

"And you think I had any control over any of that?! We were teenagers Kelly! My dad made me move. He changed my number. Angie tried to even get my dad to let me stay with her till after senior year but he said No." Shelby couldn't believe how Kelly was being. She knew he was mad but they were only teenagers.

"I didn't know."

"Of course you didn't Kelly! Because you didn't even think to ask. You shut everyone out after I left. Angie told me everything."

Kelly shoved his hands in his pockets not knowing how to respond.

"And another thing. I knew about Angie. I came up a few times to visit her when she was sick. I came up for her funeral when Scott called me. Where were you?! Scott was one of your best friends!"

"I.."

Shelby cut him off. "You were too busy chasing tail to give two shits about going to Angie's funeral!" Kelly stayed silent holding his head down. "Typical Kelly. No response. Just shuts everyone out when things get real."

Shelby pulled out her phone and started to call for a cab.

If Kelly was going to do anything now was the time. "I can take you home." Kelly blurted the words out before he realized what he was saying.

Shelby lowered her phone. "It's fine Kelly"

"Shelby please. Getting a cab this time of night is near impossible."

Shelby thought about it for a minute and then put her phone away. "Fine."

Kelly nodded and opened the passenger door of his car. Shelby slipped into the seat and Kelly closed the door. A few seconds later he was sitting in the drivers seat.

"I live in the same building Erin does."

Kelly started the car and headed in the direction of the apartment building. Shelby was staring out the passenger window neither of them speaking.

Kelly couldn't help but keep sneaking glances at the girl who still holds his heart. "So Ruzek huh?" He was trying to have a conversation with her but he didn't know what else to say.

Shelby turned her head to look at Kelly. "Yeah Erin introduced us."

"Well you two look happy."

"It's nothing serious Kelly. It's casual." Shelby didn't know why she felt the need to explain this to Kelly. Maybe part of her still loved him. She didn't know. She thought she had pushed all the feelings out years ago.

But here she is back in Kelly Severide's car. Feeling those same butterflies and heart beat skipping moments. His eyes and smiles still as intoxicating as ever.

Before they knew it Kelly pulled up outside her apartment building. He put the car in park.

"Thanks Kelly."

"Anytime."

Shelby opened the passengers door and stepped out. "I'll see you around Kelly." Shelby closed the car door and headed inside her apartment building.

Kelly watched her walk away for the second time in his life. Kelly was getting ready to drive away when he noticed Shelby had left her phone. He was getting ready to head inside when he realized he didn't know what apartment was hers. So he called Erin.

"This is detective Lindsey."

"Erin its Kelly."

"Kelly is everything alright?"

"Yeah everything's fine." Kelly paused for a moment. "What is Shelby's apartment number?"

"Kelly." Erin had this warning tone in her voice.

"Erin it's not like that. I gave her a ride home and she left her phone in my car."

"Alright 1012 Kelly."

"Thank you." Kelly hung up the phone and parked his car. He ran inside and went upstairs. He came to her apartment door and stopped.

He hesitated for a moment but then knocked. A minute later Shelby opened the door.

"Kelly? what are you..." Before she finished her sentence Kelly held up her phone. "ah that's where I left it. Thank you." Shelby took her phone from Kelly.

There was this awkward silence for a moment neither of them knowing what else to say. "Can I do something and your promise to not smack me?"

"Uh sure?"

Kelly took a step closer to her. He pushed a piece of her hair behind her ear. She didn't move so Kelly took this as a sign. He leaned down and captured her lips with his.

Shelby felt her breath get caught in her throat. Her heart fluttered and her body wanted to pull him closer. But then her phone rang.

Shelby broke the kiss and saw that it was Adam calling. "I'm sorry Kelly. I have to go."

"Shelby?"

"Thank you for bringing my phone back." Shelby closed her apartment door before Kelly could protest. She then answered Adams call. "Hey Adam."

Kelly stood outside her door for a moment and then decided he should leave. He left her apartment and made his way home. Trying to figure out what just happened and what it meant.
