Thank you to all who have continued to read this story. I know I enjoy writing it, and I'm glad that you have liked reading it. God bless!
Dark clouds swirled overhead as the city of Ninjago bustled beneath. An angry man cursed at a speeding car as he was almost run over; an old woman sat under the shade of a cherry blossom tree; two shady men hid in the shadows of an abandoned alleyway. Jay took in a deep breath as a car honked loudly on the streets below. The smell of the city entered his nose, and he couldn't help the smile that spread across his face. Growing up in the junkyard, he had learned the importance of being thankful for what he had. Still, he couldn't help but dream for something more.
He checked the wind once more time with his finger; it seemed enough to propel him forward to his destination: the rooftop just across the street. Taking a few steps backward, he waited for just the right moment. He needed to time this right - otherwise he'd become a pancake on the side of the road. A huge gust of wind pushed him from behind, moving his feet before he even had the chance to. Using it as momentum, he didn't think twice before jumping over the edge of the rooftop. He whooped loudly as the wind carried him to the next rooftop. The thrill of flying, of being up this high, was exhilarating. Up here, he realized, he could do anything. Up here, he was free.
A surge of pain washed over him; his body instinctively curled in on itself, sending him tumbling onto the rooftop. He rolled on impact, landing flat on his stomach. Cheek smashed against the concrete, he groaned loudly as his body ached in pain. He really needed to stop testing his inventions during storms.
"That was quite a nasty fall." Jay started at the sudden voice. Did security send someone up to get him off their roof? Panic filled him, but the pain in his body prevented him from jumping up to apologize. With effort, he craned his head up just enough to find the owner of the voice.
An old man sat just in front of him, maybe a few feet away, pouring a hot cup of - what was that? Tea?
"Who... who are you?" Jay croaked out. The old man smiled kindly, pausing to look up at him as he spoke.
"Tea?"
Author's Notes:
So, I know I said the chapters would become longer, but it looks like I cranked out another short one. I hope to write another chapter shortly to make up for it.
I included Jay getting struck by lightning because, well, I felt like that would just happen to him (those things happen to him a lot in the show). Since he'll become the Master of Lightning, I figured he would be all right for the most part. I also love when Wu just shows up out of nowhere and offers him tea in the show. This scene was too good in the show - I honestly didn't think of any other way for Wu to meet Jay. Anyway, I hope you like this story so far and I hope to bring more of my own flare to it. God bless!
