Ruby POV.
"Well, " I said, "Newt, I'm from the Potter family. No Potter has ever been sorted out of Gryffindor. However, I don't fit in Gryffindor like Mad-Eye. I'm brave, but not chivalrous and reckless. I don't either fit in Hufflepuff like you. I'm loyal, but only to those who gain my trust. I'm hardworking, depending on what needs to be done. I may fit into Ravenclaw, but truly my greatest fit is Slytherin like Leta Lestrange."
I turned to look at Newt's reaction. He seemed thoughtful, and said, "I agree with you, but why do you still need to train."
I looked at Newt with incredulity, how did he not understand. "Let me explain it like this," I told him, "say I was a Malfoy and I was sorted into Gryffindor. What would the other Malfoy's reactions be."
Newt seemed to catch on, "Disownment, or lots of howlers."
"Exactly," I said, " all the Slytherins would be out for my blood as a blood traitor. They would try hexing, cursing, jinxing me, you get the point."
"Ruby," Newt says, "the Gryffindors would simply get older students to help them. You may be good, but you can't be that good."
"I grew up around two aurors and a magizoologist," I told Newt, "all who are also war heroes. I simply sit on the side when Mad-Eye trains aurors, and then remember everything for later. Then, when I have to go home, I try the simpler spells in my room, under the house elves supervision. I also ask Tina for stories from when she was an auror, and what spells she used. Also, don't you notice when I ask you all about creatures and spells.
Besides, Mad-eye knows. He uses me when he picks out auror recruits to display etiquette for duels, and then he lets me practice with him. Also, did you not notice all the extra activities I do are related to defense. I've taken different forms of martial arts, gymnastics, swimming, ballet, and dance all to work on my protection and agility. I may not be able to beat them, but I can hold them off long enough to get help."
Newt looks shocked, it was suddenly dawning on him how prepared his honorary goddaughter was to protect herself. He wondered if his son, Leo Thesus, and daughter, Leta Etta a.k.a Lyetta, were ready for Illvermorny. Tina insisted they go to the school she went to, so they were going shopping next month.
Newt and I quickly finished building the habitats for my three pets. We moved on to the bedrooms, and fixed up one for me. We decided we would wait before doing the rest because I had to get home. I said goodbye to the Scamanders, passed my regards to my godsiblings, and left back to Mad-Eye's.
"Mad-Eye," I queried, " where do you think I'll be sorted Ravenclaw or Slytherin. I already decided I'm no fit for Hufflepuff or Gryffindor?"
Mad-Eye became solemn for a second, and then answered, "Slytherin. While you would fit well in Ravenclaw, in Slytherin you would crawl out of your family's shadow. You are also a very conniving person, and use all the knowledge you get, not for knowledge's sake, but for the sake of using it. Also, how's your book coming along."
Oh right, the book I'm writing. You see, one day I read a book on occlumency. I really liked it, so I decided to try to find a way to improve it. Eventually, I did, and I'm currently writing a book on it. My version of occlumency works like this. You need to meditate for a long time pushing your magic and soul into your mind.
Once you're inside your mind, you can construct things to keep your memories safe. I call it The Mind Sanctuary. I built a mansion, with a gate, moat, and security team to deal with mind intruders. All my good memories, are in the rooms in the front of the house. They are stored in little orbs, which are neatly stacked on shelves.
Then, there is a small movie theater. Yes I might be a pureblood, but I still know a lot about muggles. I walk out in Muggle London all the time, exchanging galleons for muggle money, and learning everything I could about them. I have lots of muggle things hidden in my room. Anyways, the movie theater has a slot where I can put my memories. Then, it projects them on a screen set up there.
Then, there's the rooms with all my secrets, on the second floor. They are stored in small cubes, which can also be put in the projector. Then is all my bad memories in the cellars, which are stored in small c-ds which can be played by the projector. There's also a room set with couches, chairs, rugs, and pillows. This is the room where if people I like use legillimency on me, can come to talk privately.
The book consists of different ideas for a mind sanctuary, like an office, library, bedroom. It also has different suggestions on how to store your memories, and what type of security to use. The book is almost done, and should be finished this coming summer. After that, I'm going to go through all the Potter Family vaults, find people's diaries, take out family secrets, and publish them in a series called The Potter's Thoughts Throughout Time. I'll also compile all the potions that my family never ended up introducing to the world, and publish and produce them in a business called Potions, Potter Style.
The book on occlumency is called The Unknown Entity Called the Mind, and How to Protect it. If you haven't realized it was Newt who named it, as it is similarly titled to his famous book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them. Tina, however, is the one who created the design. It's blue, silver, and white themed, and has a picture of a memory vial on it.
