A/N: This was written on my phone so excuse all my mistakes. I will probably clean this up a bit on the computer later.
In her sixteen years of life, Kagome of the Higurashi clan was sure of many things. Yet, the one she believed with all her heart and soul had been that her family could be trusted.
Now, she was not so sure.
Everything she had thought she knew was now turned upside down...as they had crossed over to the land of Youkai.
When her father had shown up with blood on him, she had told herself there was a perfectly good explanation.
When he had informed her that her mother was injured, she had reminded herself that there was nothing in this world that her family couldn't solve.
Yet, hours of trekking into the forbidden land, and somehow managing to cross into it, she now stood baffled and scared.
Having changed out of her priestess attire, she looked at her Yukata and cloak in confusion. More importantly, the more her new necklace jingled on their journey, the angrier she became.
"Father—" she began, but instead of the patience and understanding she had grown used to from him, he instead halted his movements and rewarded her with exhaustion and irritation.
"Not now, Kagome." His voice held worry, tiredness and what sounded like...fear.
Not now?
If not now, then when?
If nothing else, she was going to ask some questions.
"Will she be okay?" This much, she needed to know.
Silence engulfed them until finally, her father sighed and shook his head.
Instantly, Kagome panicked.
"Then we need to go back—" Even now, the fear in her voice scared even herself. Surely he wouldn't just give up on her.
She was supposed to be the love of his life.
The mother of his child.
Did that mean nothing to him?
What reason could he have for staying away at such a perilous time?
"I'm a mage, Kagome." Just like that, the silence came back.
Realization set in.
A mage?
Her father?
She tried to imagine a world where such a statement could be fact.
It simply wasn't possible.
Mages created fire, they wielded thunder and manipulated the elements. Her father had never done anything remotely close to that.
In fact, if nothing else, she would had described him as perfectly ordinary.
As if reading her mind, he sighed.
"Your mother knew and if she is to use her Reiki to heal herself, we must be gone."
Yet, even as she replayed the words in her head, she still couldn't comprehend them.
It made no sense.
If mother was injured, wouldn't it make sense for them to help her? Why did they have to stay away at the moment when she needed them?
"It's difficult to explain, but if there is even a sliver of hope for her survival, we must not be nearby."
Exhausted and confused, she tried her best to understand, but the more she tried, the more frustrated she became.
How could their departure assist in her survival?
As if understanding that she was struggling with taking in so much information at once, her father once more spoke up.
"For now, just rest. Tomorrow, we will discuss this further."
For a brief moment, she debated on arguing. Yet, as she began to open her mouth, her father once more shook his head.
"Kagome, the moon will be full soon, and with it, comes change. You will need your rest."
Something about his tone told her not to argue.
For the time being, she would accept such a request. Allowing herself some comfort in knowing that her questions would be answered tomorrow, she let her body relax.
Closing her eyes, the last image in her mind before sleep overtook her was the bright moon that seemed to lull her to sleep.
She had fallen asleep.
That much she was sure of.
Yet, as she opened her eyes, she noticed her father was nowhere to be found. In fact, she was in unfamiliar territory. Most definitely not where she had fallen asleep.
Turning to the sky, she smiled warily at the brightness of the full moon.
Suddenly, she felt a gust of wind and it felt as if the whole forest of trees were swaying to a song of their own.
"Who are you?"
The last thing she had expected was somebody being here. Letting a little Yelp of surprise, she turned in the direction of the voice.
Only to be even more shocked.
There before her, was what appeared to be the most beautiful man she had ever seen.
Brown hair, in a high ponytail.
Glistening tan skin.
Blue eyes that seemed to all but radiate from the full moon.
It wasn't until he turned to step closer to her that she noticed a very important feature.
Pointed ears.
Instantly, panic set in.
"You're a youkai!" She hadn't meant to sound so shocked and scared at once, and almost immediately regretted it.
What if such a statement was insulting in this territory?
Or, what if he attacked?
Dread began to set in.
But, instead of any of those, the handsome being did something entirely different.
He smirked.
"Are all mages so observant?."
Instantly, her eyes narrowed.
"I'm not—" she began but then stopped herself.
Was she?
A mage?
With widen eyes, she sucked in a breath.
She didn't know.
She had no idea what she was.
"Not a mage? Doubtful. You smell of magic." Even as he said such words, she noted him taking a step closer to her and appeared to be sniffing passed, and then his eyes widened and he took another step forward.
"A twilight mage? Here? I thought the House of the Moon had the last of your kind."
Furrowing her brows, she tried to make sense of what he spoke.
"House of the moon?" She hated feeling stupid, but she couldn't help voicing the question without thought.
This time, he laughed.
Rubbing the back of his head as if debating how to address such a question, he waited a few minutes before speaking up again.
"You really have no idea who you are?" His voice was laced with awe and wonder. Taking a final step towards her, he provided a cocky grin.
"I'm Koga—the Lunar prince." He gave a tilt of his head, grinned larger and seemly waited for her introduction.
A Lunar prince? What did that even mean? Yet, as she observed the handsome stranger before her, she admitted that he fit the title quiet well.
He was very prince like.
In terms of being attractive of course.
And fit.
"And you are...?" His voice interrupted her scrambling thoughts.
Blushing at being caught with a wandering mind, she returned a smile for the grin he provided.
"Kagome. Just Kagome. Uhh, I don't really have a fancy title." Oh god. Now, she was rambling.
"I very much doubt that, 'Kagome-without-a-fancy-title'."
His eyes twinkled with amusement.
Her eyes shimmered with awe.
"You don't even realize it yet, do you?" This time, his voice was gentle but curious.
Realize what?
Turning to him, she noticed that he beckoned her to sit down in a soft area of grass. Without thinking twice, she followed his lead.
"Realize what?" Facing him, her eyes widened at how close they were now.
Where her body began to hum of strange feelings, he seemed at ease with their proximity. Ignoring the sudden warmth she felt as he gazed at her, she waited for an answer.
"You're a twilight mage—a syphoner. To be fair, I was confused at first. Going to sleep in my den and to wake up away from my pack doesn't happen often—" He began, and suddenly her ears perked up.
"You lost time too?!"
He laughed.
"No, neither of us lost time. You simply are doing what your kind do." It wasn't said rudely. If anything, he smiled while explaining and pointed to the moon.
"You get your power from her—much like many of us. So, when you are in need of something, she knows."
Strange.
The handsome stranger spoke of the moon as a being.
Listening intently, she realized she had more questions then answers.
"I need something?" What did she need, other than answers of course? Or perhaps sleep.
He nodded.
"It's how it works. Youkai and Mages arnt so different. We all have a source of power. When we're depleted, we need to recharge. For majority of Youkai and Mages they get assistance with recharging through various elements. For us, it's the moon."
For a moment, she blinked. Then, she blinked again.
"Us?"
Did he mean? That they were similar?
She had expected an answer, instead she silently gasped as the Youkai grabbed both of her hands and moved his face closer to hers until their noses were almost touching.
"Let me show you."
Without thinking twice, she nodded.
And just like that, his lips were on hers. One of his hands tangled in her hair, and the other on her hip. Unable to create coherent thoughts, she allowed the warmth in her body to spread.
The need.
A moan escaped her as she felt her body heat up even more.
Ripping his lips off hers, he smirked.
"Atta girl. Keep going."
She didn't understand. Yet, instinct told her that she needed more. An unfamiliar growl escaped her lips as she slammed her lips back down on his.
Unaware or simply not caring, she allowed his hands to travel without repercussions. Moaning as they made their way from her hips to her breast.
Once again pulling away from her, he took a shaky gasp of air.
"Jesus fuck, you were depleted."
Again, confusion resulted from his words, but her mind and body told her that she was not finished yet.
Instinctively, she whimpered.
In the back of her mind, she noticed his ears twitch and his gaze turned from her body to her face.
"Shhh. It's okay. I've got you." He spoke the words as his nose nuzzled against her neck, and without warning, his lips trailed from her neck to her collarbone.
"Promise me something."
Again, she ignored all logic and merely nodded in agreement.
"Only call me. I'll make sure you have your fill."
She should have furrowed her brows in confusion. Or ask what he meant. But instead, she nodded once more.
"Good girl."
She wasn't sure if it was his husky tone, or his lips now on her wrist that distracted her, but whatever it was, she had never noticed his fangs extend.
In fact, it wasn't until she felt his fangs quickly sink into her wrist did she yelp in shock.
Only then did she jolt straight up from her dream.
Body shaking, and suddenly aware of her surroundings, Kagome turned to her left to realize that her father was resting peacefully under the full moon.
The second thing she noticed was the bite mark on her wrist.
Eyes wide and full of panic, the poor Mage tried to make sense of what had just occurred.
A/N: Poor Kagome has no clue about her lineage and what being a twilight made entails. Remember what type of mage she is and the nicknames they've had for her kind. I'll reveal more in coming chapters. Also, still not sure between Sess or Koga pairing. If you have a pairing you love other than the other tell me why and it may help with a decision. As always, if you have questions feel free to ask :)
