Vernon Dursley gets a letter from Hogwarts. Story starts two days after the end of "Return to Privet Drive." Part 4, Hagrid and The Sorting Hat.

The Hogwarts Express pulled into Hogsmeade station. Vernon joined the crowd of excited children getting off the train, Harry the cat was still perched in his shoulder. Vernon then saw the biggest man he had ever seen, with a long grey beard shouting "First years, first years follow me."
Vernon found himself in a boat with this giant man as they crossed the lake. "Excuse me Sir, are you Hagrid?"
"Yeah, that's right, an who might you be?"
"I am Vernon Dursley, my cousin is Harry Potter."
Hagrid burst out laughing "Oh yes, I remember a Dursley the day Harry first met me..."

After the lake crossing Hagrid led the new first years to the entrance to the school.
"Good evening Professor, here are this years newcomers."
"Thank you Hagrid, I will take it from here, I will see you in the Great Hall for the feast."
"Right you are Professor."
"Good evening, welcome one and all to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I am Professor Longbottom, deputy headmaster. There are four houses here at Hogwarts, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin, all named after the 4 great witches and wizards who founded this school over a thousand years ago. All students are members of one of these great houses, your first act as a Hogwarts student is to be sorted into a house. So if you will all follow me."
A few minutes later Professor Longbottom placed the ancient sorting hat on Vernon's head
"Ah yes, I remember your famous cousin, its got to be GRYFFINDOR!"
