He didn't know where his feelings for the young woman were coming from, but when he saw Kaoru getting hurt, a fresh swell of rage rose in him. Her tears left a bitter taste in his mouth. Sweet innocence, but how long would it last? His protectiveness was coming alive.
"I am a little tired of traveling."
It was clear as day that she was betrayed, a cruel act against her kindness. She should have been angry, but she stood courageously in direct contrast to the chaos in her dojo. He had watched her reaction to him. He wanted to see if she would fear him, but what he saw was shocked, resignation and determination.
"A rurouni never knows where he's going or for how long. But if you don't mind…."
She didn't question what lies in my shadow. What was important for her was now. She asked me to stay, a man she knew so little about. So fierce, too trusting, unknowingly tearing his control. It didn't make any sense, but maybe she could help him find meaning in life that never seemed to move forward.
"I'll stay with you for a little while."
