Devil Kit heard rustling in the shrubs, making his fur bristle. He wasn't scared of what the animal was, he was scared of not knowing what it was. A beautiful, fiery looking she-cat trotted out of the bushes, leaves and small twigs falling off of her pelt. Devil Kit let out a sigh of relief, fur laying flat. Something about that cat was calling out to him. He wished he had the confidence to go up and talk to her, but he didn't. Devil Kit thought for a moment. He decided he would just go for it. What's the worst that could happen? As he padded closer to the cat, he noticed an odd glare in her eyes. An evil glare, almost.
"Hey, my name is Devil Kit, you?" He said, nervously scratching the ground.
"Oh, uhm… My name's Fire Claw," she said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you, Fire Claw!" Devil Kit said, a bit excited to have a she-cat as a friend.
"Would you like to go hunting with me, dear friend?" Fire Claw asked.
"Oh, uh, sure! I'll go ask my mom!"
"Why? Can't you just go? She'll try to follow us and… stuff that mothers do. Just follow me, we don't have to tell her," insisted the she.
"But-" Before Devil Kit could object, she interrupted him.
"No buts, just c'mon, Devil Kit!" She began to pad off. Devil Kit sneakily whispered to his friend before he left:
"Tell my momma that I went hunting with Fire Claw, okay?" His friend nodded, then Devil Kit cantered after Fire Claw. She ran under fallen trees and wove through bushes, and somehow Devil Kit kept up with her. Suddenly, she stopped. Devil skidded to a stop beside her.
"Wow, I didn't think you would be able to keep up," she said sassily.
"Neither did I," he breathed out. He felt the mood change, everything seemed to get cold. The wind blew harder, the sky grew darker, and every animal of every species seemed to disappear. He turned in circles, noticing the red cat had vanished.
"Fire Claw? Fire Claw?" He called out. He heard a cat's growl, then a sharp pain in his back, making him hiss in pain. Devil Kit quickly cuffed the cat's ear, making the unknown cat get off of him. He then realized it was Fire Claw.
"Why..?" He asked.
"Are you really that stupid? To think you can just barge in Ivyclan and act like you own the place?" She said with a chuckle.
"What!? No, you don't understand, we weren't in the best position in Windclan!" He said, his voice shaking.
"Pffft, you're from Windclan!? Even worse!" She spat. He hissed as her paw flew through the air, landing a scratch on his eye. Devil Kit yelled in pain, closing his eyes tightly as a few tears fell. He tried to run away, but Fire Claw stepped on his tail, scratching his back. He hissed louder, whipping around and cuffing her ear. She let go, letting him run. He ran all the way back to Ivyclan camp, leaping into his mothers warm embrace. The wound stung badly but seemed to be healing quickly. Too quickly. His mother noticed a change in his eye color. What was a beautiful ocean blue was now a toxic bright green. He was hauled into the medicine den, his clanmates buzzing with interest.
"What happened?" A cat yelled out.
"Is he dead?" Another one peeped. His breathing was slower, and his body was cold. Devil Kit's body was limp and his breaths were short. Was he dead..?
