When they arrived at the emergency room, Ethan and Marcel were ready to wait and immediately went to work on their patients after being informed by the paramedics.
The latter during the journey had been forced to intubate Will to allow him to breathe. His condition was very serious.
The bullet in the chest had grazed an artery and, fortunately, without causing serious damage it had lodged in the shoulder blade. What caused most concern was the bullet that had hit him in the head and was still lodged there.
Doing some more detailed examinations, Dr. Choi realized that Will had no hope now. The bullet hit the midbrain.
He would have died shortly thereafter or would have continued to live with some serious deficit.
As for Hayley, it was also very serious. The bullet hit the spleen. A serious internal bleeding was therefore created that Dr. Marcel was trying in every way to stem to remove the organ and save the life of the detective.
Meanwhile Jay was there, sitting in the chairs in front of the rooms where the two most important people in his life were and watching the doctors who were busy going here and there in their respective rooms to save them.
So much blood was on the ground, gauze was removed after being used to stop the bleeding.
He was in shock. The images passed before his eyes and he was almost terrified. His pupils were fixed.
- This isn't really happening. Not me - he thought.
Meanwhile, Dr. Choi was contemplating transferring Will to surgery to have him operated on.
The chances were almost nil, but it was always better than trying nothing.
He was going out to try to talk to the detective. But it was at that moment that the irreparable happened.
Dr. Halstead, who had been holding on until then, was letting go.
Despite the atropine immediately injected by the nurse at Ethan's request, Will's heartbeat was slowing and the monitors were going crazy. It was a blue code.
Immediately other medical personnel poured into the room to help, but all was in vain.
The heart line had gone flat.
Despite Ethan's efforts to revive his colleague, there was nothing to be done.
It was dead.
