Hello! I'm happy today, hope you are all in good mood too! Now, to the wonderful reviews:
To Magicalalice: Thank you so much for your message! It made me smile the whole day! And I actually didn't want it to be cruel, that cliffhanger, it just didn't exactly fit with the beginning of this chapter. Completely change of topic, I felt stupid because I kept reading your name as "Magical lalice" and I thought "What the heck is a lalice?"
So you all probably know by now that I am not intelligent at all… and that I need glasses.
To TheRealisticOptimist: I know it's a bit uncomfortable and I'm sorry about that… but I truly cannot see the wolf without this need of being with his mate, to be "complete". Also, thank you! I try to keep these characters as close to canon as possible, so it was the greatest compliment.
To Hakerenit CasRiv: Thank you so much! And that scene is something that I know how is going to happen but I try not to think about it.
Love you all ❤️ and...
Enjoy!
The day after.
After everything that happened that night, Remus felt exhausted. He recognized Hermione as his mate since September first; however, her call that night cemented every doubt inside him. Hearing her call made him feel complete and powerful. "You need to write everything down, " she said, in his head, "you know I'll need it."
He still was not able to recognize that voice. It sounded like Hermione's, although more mature, more womanly, and not at all like the teenager he knew. But it moved something inside him, it was this need to protect her.
So he listened to it, like all the times he heard it before, he wrote every single detail and thoughts that cross his mind. What decisions were his, the wolf's, and the decisions made by that mysterious voice, decisions that he simply followed.
And while he wrote, he couldn't ignore the feeling of deja vu. He already knew this was going to happen, he already knew that Sirius was innocent.
But he could not grab that line of thought, it escaped him over and over again.
"You are not ready, love. Let it be"
He felt frustrated. All over the year, he felt something missing, his memories, his friends, his mate. Even if she was right in front of him, he would not do anything until she turned at least seventeen, the legal age. "Although that is foolish, she is already ours"
Remus really didn't need another voice in his head, but couldn't help prefer the woman over the wolf. At least she gave him good advice every time he needed them. He sighed, a headache was forming in his head, and all he could think about was Hermione's calling. It was the first time he could remember something the wolf did without the wolfsbane potion.
He started packing his stuff, after all, he could not teach any longer at Hogwarts. His secret was out. "But she did not outed you, our mate was not afraid of us." He sighed, watching the little dot that represented Harry parting ways from his mate and walking towards his office. He sighed again. This was a conversation he couldn't escape.
"Where are we going" Asked Sirius while they were walking to the apparition point
"To my place," Remus said. "Don't get too excited, it is not the apartment that you remember."
"You lived in an apartment?" Sirius asked in a whisper, almost to himself.
"Apparently I did, although I don't remember much. It was in the middle of the war so my memories are a little bit blurry"
"Oh, okay," he said. "You really don't mind? I am a fugitive after all"
He smiled at that. "Not so good if they captured you again."
"In my defense, I was attacked by dementors."
Remus turned serious now. "I'm sorry I complicated everything"
"Don't worry about that, the past is in the past." was Sirius's answer. They walked past the wards in silence. He looked one last time at the castle, the wolf crying inside him already. Remus turned to his best friend. "Come on, it's time to go"
"So… you are living in your parent's cottage," said Sirius, looking at the said cottage with almost disguised disgust.
"And you are living in the streets," Remus said, already tired out of everything.
"Ouch, that was unnecessarily rude" whined Sirius. Both of them step into the living room tiredly. "You are being moody, Moony."
He sighed, emptiness filling his body. He could not deny that his temper was shorter than ever, and he knew the reason.
"And you are being "Unnecessarily loud"" He replied, imitating Sirius's whined tone, while he fell onto the couch. "Don't be rude if you don't have to, you never know if the other person is having a worse day than yours." Yeah, well, he just left his mate behind, lost his job, and almost killed his best friend's son. Oh, and his other best friend too. Not that that matters. "He was in Azkaban for twelve years"
"I'm sorry," he said. "I'm a little bit down the weather,"
"Oh, just a little bit?" Sirius smiled. "It has nothing to do with the fact that our Moony felt a little overprotective of a certain girl?"
Remus sat down immediately. "What are you talking about?!" He screamed. "She is not my mate, she is just a girl" he tried to explain, even if saying those words out loud made him hurt worse than anything.
"Of course she is not!" Sirius said, surprised, at the same time that he sat down on the carpet, "I mean, I don't know more than you about werewolves but I do know a few things, Remus. You cannot have two different mates"
"What?" Remus asked, petrified. "What did you say?"
"That you know more about werewolves than me?" whispered Sirius, who had rolled down and was almost falling asleep in front of the fireplace.
"No, not that. The part about my mate" Remus said, in a low voice, and with a sudden headache. Sirius turned to look at him, his face hard to read.
"Oh, I'm sorry I mentioned her." he said, "I forgot"
Remus was confused. He felt like his whole life was a memory that he couldn't touch.
"You forgot about what?"
Now Sirius looked really uncomfortable. Trying to look at everything but Remus.
"I'm sorry. I forgot how much it hurts you to even remember her."
"Who is she? What... What happened to her?"
His memories were escaping his reach. They were slippery, but he was able to remember a shadow. A kind of feminine shadow.
"Well... Are you alright?"
Sirius's voice was full of concern. The only thing that Remus wanted, and that was probably an after effect of the full moon, was to strangle Sirius with his bare hands.
"Do you remember my mate?"
His best friend, his pack, smiled at him. "Of course I..." Sirius was frowning now. "I... think that... Well," he tried to say.
"What?!" Remus's voice was louder now, and a little bit raspier. "What do you remember?!"
Suddenly Sirius's eyes found his, as red as the blood that was pounding in Remus's head. Both of them trying to grab a thought, a memory, and neither of them succeeding.
"I think..." Sirius tried again. "I think that she died"
Okay, you are probably going to hate this now, aren't you? Again, the same excuse. This was the perfect spot to end the chapter, I'm terribly sorry that I'm cruel. (TBH, I kinda like when chapters end like this because it makes me freak out and start imagining different scenarios in my head).
Hope you like it!
Please review to let me know what you think!
