Prompt: A young Sirius Black comes across the Mirror of Erised. What does he see?
The first time the marauders found the mirror, they had barely been in Hogwarts for a month. What had been the most confusing part for Sirius Black was him seeing his parents. They were standing on either side of him while he donned the vivid red and gold of Gryffindor. They were accepting and encouraging like any normal parents should be.
He didn't have any clue why the mirror was showing him this till the boys said what each of them saw. Remus explained that he saw himself enjoying a midnight stroll. He left out the part that it was during a full moon and he wasn't a werewolf. James saw himself with Lily Evans, holding hands none the less. Peter saw himself as top of the class. They knew then that the mirror was showing what the wanted the most. But Sirius, James, and Peter were muddled by what Remus had seen, but it wasn't until he admitted to being a werewolf that he fully explained what he had seen that night.
They didn't come across the mirror again till Christmas break during their third year. This time it was only Sirius and Remus due to James and Peter having travelled home for the holidays. Remus admitted that he still saw the same thing with one small change. He wasn't alone under the full moon. This time all of his friends were with him. When Sirius looked in the mirror, he saw Regulus in Gryffindor along with all of his friends. Regulus looked happier than he had seen him in a long time. Turning away, Sirius fought back tears and refused to tell Remus what he had seen.
The last time the boys came across the mirror was a week into their fifth year. Remus had tried to convince them not to travel the halls at night. He didn't want them to cause trouble while being a Prefect. Sure enough as soon as Remus went to bed, the three snuck out. They were on their way back when they heard a noise and rushed into a room to hide and found the mirror again.
One by one, the boys looked into the mirror. James told them that he saw himself with Lily again, but this time they were holding hands and kissing. Peter had seen himself as head boy in their seventh year with top scores in all his classes. They were laughing about it when a voice interrupted their joy.
"Enjoying the mirror of Erised boys?"
Sirius turned around first to see Dumbledore and Remus.
"You turned on us, Remus?" Sirius snapped as the other boys turned around to face their friend.
"No," Dumbledore said before Remus had a chance to speak. "I found him in the hallways and he admitted that he was looking for you three. We just happened to hear laughter when he neared this door."
"Sorry guys," Remus said softly.
"Now there's no need for any of you to get in trouble. But I have to ask, what did you see that made you laugh?" Dumbledore asked with a gleam in his eye.
"I saw myself with Lily Evans, sir," James admitted.
"And I saw myself as head boy," Peter said with a shake in his voice.
"And what about you, Sirius? What did you see?"
"I didn't have a chance to look before you came in. May I?" he asked being as polite as possible.
"You may. This will be your last chance as it will not be here after tonight."
Sirius breathed in sharply before turning and looking into the mirror. But he relaxed in almost disbelief at the sight in front of him. It was him and Remus, holding hands under a full moon. Remus didn't have a single scar on his body and seemed full of joy. He did have feelings for his friend and this year had really matured the honey haired boy. His heart ached for the picture to be real, but how was he going to tell the other's what he was looking at.
"What do you see?" came Dumbledore's voice from behind him.
"I see myself... surrounded by my friends. We are all happy," he said not knowing what else to say before adding one more thing. "The moon is full and Remus is himself."
Remus stood still as he felt a tear form and slowly fall down his cheek. Hearing Sirius say that meant the world to him.
"Remus, do you want to look one last time?" Dumbledore asked watching the Prefect nod and walk forward knowing what he was going to see.
Sirius stepped aside, never removing his eyes from the boy he had a crush on. Remus looked into the mirror and smiled. It was him, scars and all, with a certain member of the Black family holding his hand. They looked happy, but what caught him off guard was the fact that he knew from the scars that he was still a werewolf. Here was Sirius Black loving him for what he really was.
"I see me as a normal kid," he lied as he kept his eyes on his reflections hand hold Sirius'.
"Is that all?"
"Yes sir," he replied turning away.
"Well if at is all, I would like a word with Remus alone, You three go straight to your dorm and he will meet you three there," Dumbledore said practically shooing the boys out of the room.
Remus stood silently while he watched his friends leave.
"I only want to let you know that in a few years, you will have a whole world against you. Keep your friends and loved ones close," Dumbledore said with a wink. "Well, you best be off to bed. Classes are early for you tomorrow."
Remus nodded before heading back silently, the entire time thinking about what he had seen.
Two years later, in the start of their last year at Hogwarts, Remus finally admitted what he has seen that day. Sirius also admitted the truth as he sat on his bed with his boyfriend laying in his lap. They had gotten what they desired most. James had become head boy and freaked when he realized Lily was head girl. Now to just get the two to admit their feelings for each other.
