Welcome to chapter three, everyone! I'm really enjoying this story. This will be the last chapter for chibi Putata and Mekeke.
Chapter three: Release the Nyororo!
It's been two months since Mekeke moved in. He was fully used to his eye by now. Mekeke liked living with Putata's family. There never was a bored moment with them. Siroro and Putata would always argue, Mekeke felt awkward but he would always get it thrown in the crossfire. Anono, Putata's father, would never raise his voice at him. He tried not to raise his voice at all after it scared Mekeke.
Putata was a good friend, they got really close. Mekeke even tried to teach him how to use puppets. Putata failed but he still enjoyed it. Mekeke and Putata had a bad habit of sleeping in the same bed together. At first they would always stay up late so they would pass out. Then Putata got really used to it. Nyori was always between them away, Putata squirmed a lot in his sleep.
Nyori is what they named Putata's pet. Nyori did take some getting used to. Mekeke was too afraid to go near for the first couple weeks, now he lets Nyori lay in his lap when he wants to. Putata likes to do livestreams when he can, Mekeke just camps in the background when he does, making jokes with him. Life wasn't all good though.
School wasn't the nicest place to be. Mekeke and Putata had to deal with bullies. The two were constantly getting beat up by some older tadpoles and there wasn't much Mekeke thought they could do about it. Putata had a crazy idea that he wasn't sure he was okay with. Use Nyori.
Putata had suggested that they defend themselves by using Nyori. Mekeke didn't like that idea, using Nyori as a weapon. He mostly feared if Nyori got a taste for keronian they would be next on the list. For Mekeke sake, Putata hasn't gone along with his plan. Putata had faith that Nyori wouldn't turn on them and he wanted the bullies to leave them alone.
Mekeke was sitting on one of the bean bag chairs in Putata's room. Putata's mom got them so they wouldn't be sitting on the floor anymore. Nyori was curled around his feet as he was craving another puppet. He didn't mind Nyori anymore, Nyori liked cuddling with both of them. Putata wasn't here, he had to go to a military thing with his family. Mekeke forgot what it was.
Mekeke was thinking about Putata's plan to get them to leave them alone. He knew there was more to it. Last month Putata and him went to the train yard. They were going to film for Putata's art blog. That's when it happened. They learned that Nyori's blue tip was actually ink. Putata was so excited about it, but soon Nyori ran out of ink. Putata got a theory that in order for Nyori to make ink he had to do what Nyororo did, drain someone. It made sense. It made sense and it was coming from Putata. That guy never made any sense.
Putata wanted to test out his theory, Mekeke learned to read Putata like a book. It wasn't that hard. Putata almost always had a smile on his face, it was more of his tone of laughs that would tell you his mood. Putata laughed in resonance, but if you listened to his tone. Mekeke picked up his tones and body language pretty quickly. Mekeke knew that Putata would get his way with Nyori. The only reason he hasn't gone through with it yet, was because he respected his wishes.
The teal tadpole's phone went off, Anono gave him a phone so he could always contact them if he needed to. He flipped it open, Putata. Putata would text him all the time. Mostly when he just happened to be downstairs and Putata wanted more food.
:I hate saluting.:
Mekeke gave out a chuckle. Putata was going through basic training for military camp. His parents were going to force him to go. That was something that Mekeke hated about them. Putata had no interest in the military. Siroro was already in boot camp, he was going to be there for a couple years from the sounds of it. Putata was next in line. Mekeke thought about joining Putata to keep him sane. And probably for his own sanity too. He was so used to Putata random bursts of energy. Mekeke stared at the text message debating his response. Should he tell Putata he was thinking about it, Putata would try and stop him for sure.
:It can't be that bad…: Mekeke answered with. He didn't know a damn thing about the military. Anono talked about it a lot though. Putata and him would argue all the time about it. Mekeke did his best to stay out of it, he didn't feel like it was his place to say anything.
Mekeke finished craving the arm of his new puppet, it had a blade at the end of it. He put the arm down and threw the knife he was using into the door. Mekeke learned many knife tricks and for Putata's sake he got fast reflexes to dodge sharp objects coming at any part of his body.
:Hey, when will you be back?: Mekeke texted Putata. It's been hours since Putata left with his dad, they would be back by now.
:A block away, why? You miss me?:
:In your dreams...I wanted to ask your dad something.: There was a two minute pause before Putata answered again.
:What did you want to ask him?:
Mekeke didn't answer. He didn't want Putata to talk him out of it before he asked. After all...Putata would be better if he went along with him anyway. They both had something in common, they struggled with people.
Putata didn't like the silence, what was Mekeke going to ask his father? Putata huffed and closed his phone, trying now to think about the question. Mekeke was the opposite of him, volume wise. Mekeke would scare his mom a lot. It took her awhile to get used to the tadpole that liked to swing his way up to the ceiling. She would have a heart attack when Mekeke jumped down in front of her. She got used to it after awhile but he catches her off guard sometimes.
The artist got out of the car and ran into the house. He found Mekeke in the kitchen getting some juice.
"What were you gonna ask my dad?" he asked. "And are those my pocky sticks?"
He never should have taught Mekeke how to work his desk. Mekeke shrugged off the second question but not the first one. It made Putata uneasy. Anono walked into the kitchen, rubbing his shoulder. It was sore for some reason.
" ." Mekeke said, walking up to Anono.
"Just Anono, Mekeke." the older keronian grunted and sat down in one of the kitchen chairs. Mekeke nodded and put his hands behind his back. "Right, Anono, I have a question."
Anono raised his brow but placed his hand on his cheek. "Yes, Mekeke?" he said tiredly. Putata was watching from the doorway, he anxiously waited for Mekeke's question.
"I wanted to know if I could also attend the military camp that Putata is going to this summer." Mekeke nervously said, playing with his shirt.
"What? No!" Putata protested, he would have opened his mouth again if it wasn't for the glare he got from Anono. Putata knew when he should be quiet and this was one of those times. Anono looked back to Mekeke who was still pulling on his shirt. Anono thought for a bit. He was technically Mekeke's legal guardian according to the Keron government. So all Mekeke needed was his signature to actually join the Military. But he was also worried. Putata and Mekeke would get into all kinds of trouble. They were walking disaster when they put their minds to it. Anono had to ban their prank war last month. Mekeke claims he won because he pulled the last prank before he banned it. It was possible that Mekeke only wanted to go because he was going to be lonely this summer. Anono would get a break from all the kids being out of the house. Anono made a list in his head of the pros and cons of this happening. Soon the pros outweigh the cons.
"Very well." Anono agreed. "But that means you need to go with me and Putata every weekend for the military basics."
Mekeke nodded his head. "Agreed, ."
"It's just Anono, Mekeke."
Putata didn't say a word to Mekeke for hours, Mekeke knew he was going to be upset anyway. Mekeke had his hat off, he was making some adjustments so he wouldn't have to wear his itchy eye patch anymore. Mekeke didn't like wearing his eye patch, but he didn't like when people made fun of him for his scar. The teal tadpole would look up from time to time, Putata glaring at him like he wanted to something. After the third or fifth time he caught him glaring Mekeke got annoyed.
"Okay, Putata, if you have something to say just say it." Mekeke hissed returning the glare. Putata gripped his pen and pointed it at Mekeke. "Why? Why do you want to sign up?" Putata started with a serious tone. "You don't have to go. You don't have to join the military."
Mekeke was sewing an eye patch in his hat as he listened to Putata's rant. "If you think I'm joining for myself, you are wrong. I'm joining to keep you sane." Mekeke said, he yelped when he almost poked himself with the needle. "And, I rather not have you blowing up my phone all summer complaining."
Putata frowned and slumped in his chair. "You don't have to, Mekeke…"
"Oh, I know." Mekeke confidently answered. Putata opened his mouth to speak, but he couldn't find anything to say. There was nothing he could say to change Mekeke's mind.
"You are weird."
"Right back at ya."
Putata grumbled awake as his alarm went off. It was school time. Mekeke was already up and wearing his new and improved hat. Putata groaned as he rolled out of bed, he missed the days he could just skip school. But he liked having Mekeke around. That was his reason for getting up in the morning. He made his way downstairs.
Anono was making breakfast for the boys, his wife had an injured platoon come in so she had to stay overnight at the hospital. Mekeke and Putata sat down at the kitchen table.
" , what are you making?" Mekeke asked him.
"It's just Anono." the older keronian mumbled. He didn't know why Mekeke started calling him ' .' but he didn't like it, Mekeke lived in his house so he didn't have to address him so formally.
The tadpoles ate breakfast and headed off to school. Putata and Mekeke normally walked themselves to school. Mekeke always made sure they were never late. Mekeke thought it weird that Putata was bringing his big backpack to school, he didn't really question it though. They walked to school. On their way to school, they saw their bullies from across the street. Putata gripped the strap on his backpack as they laughed at Mekeke's hat and Putata almost opened his mouth.
Mekeke grabbed his friend's wrist and yanked him down the sidewalk. "Don't say anything." Mekeke demanded. Putata looked down at his feet. He heard things that they wanted to see if Mekeke's scar was real.
Everything seemed normal at school. Everyone avoided them, but Putata was still nervous about the bullies. Mekeke and him were studying together for their class. They were gonna have a pop quiz after lunch. Putata grumbled still not understanding the math problem.
"Why can't I copy off of you?" Putata grumbled and hit his forehead off the table. Mekeke just rolled his eyes and continued eating his sandwich. Mekeke and Putata let their guards down.
Mekeke felt someone yank on the ears of his hat. "H-Hey!" he yelled and tried to pull away. Putata sat up quickly, at first he thought Mekeke was yelling at him. He looked in the direction of Mekeke. The bullies. "Let him go!" he ordered and tried to grab the bullies hand. Another bully wrapped his arm around his stomach and lifted him up.
The bullies were two grades older than them, they were the first in their class to lose their tails too. That can go straight to some people's heads. Putata kicked his legs trying to get the bully to let him go. Mekeke also struggled holding his hat down against his face. The older teen was trying to take off Mekeke's hat. Putata gritted his teeth together.
What could he do? If he did something, Mekeke would get mad at him. But...they would be even. Putata bit down on the bully's hand. The bully yelped and dropped Putata on the floor. Putata had enough time to unzip his bag before he yanked back up.
"You're gonna pay for that!" the bully yelled at him.
Putata grinned and started laughing in his signature laugh. Mekeke looked down at what Putata was laughing at. Oh fuck…
Putata had brought Nyori to school. Nyori peeked it's head out of the bag and saw what was happening. "Nyooo."
The bullies froze hearing the sound. Putata started resonating. Something he did when he very proud of himself. Mekeke managed to get out of the bully's grasp and he jumped on top of the table. Nyori grabbed the bully's foot and yanked him under the table. His partner screamed in terror and ran away.
"Putaputaputaputa."
Mekeke looked around at the other students who were too afraid to move. Mekeke fixed his hat as he stood on the table. He knew why Putata and him were bullied. They were the weird ones, it was easy to pick on the weird kids. Now everyone was scared of them. Making new friends was out of the question. And Mekeke was strangely okay with that.
"Mekemekemekemeke."
Their first time resonating together. Putata crossed his arms as his bully was drained dry.
It was safe to say Putata and Mekeke weren't bullied anymore in high school, they were punished for bringing Nyori to school. It wasn't too bad though. Anono just told them no devices for a week. He knew the tadpoles were only protecting each other but using Nyori was a bit extreme.
Putata and Mekeke both agreed on one rule. If they were going to use Nyori it was never going to be on school grounds again.
This chapter was for two reasons,
I really wanted Putata to use Nyori.
And I wanted an explanation how they get into the military together.
Next chapter is going to start the Giruru, Dokuku, and Yukiki's arc.
