Chapter 1: New Hope and New Despair
Daily Life
"K...K...K..." Futaba stutters
"Killing School Life!?" Bakubaku yells "What the hell does that mean!?
"Hm? What about it doesn't make sense?" Monokuma asked "Its as it sounds!" He laughs
'Is this bear for real!?' Sakura thinks. She felt the color drain from her face. Hiroto stands up
"I want answers bear!" He yelled "Talk!"
"Okay okay" Monokuma waves a submissive hand "Essentially: You 16 will be living here forever!" He laughs
'Living here...forever!?' Sakura thinks
"I have prepared all you need to live a life here. Buuuut there is one way to earn your freedom!"
"And how is that!" Ohana yells. Monokuma laughs
"isn't it obvious? You have to kill each other!" He laughs loudly "Stabbing, bludgeoning, poisoning, strangling, drowning. Anything goes!"
"Why the hell would we do that!?" Kubo yelled
"Why? Well if you want to leave of course!" Monokuma giggles "When a murder has occurred, we will hold a Class Trial. In that trial, its your job to figure out whodunnit! Then you will vote for the 'Blackened'. If you get it right, the Blackened will be punished!"
"And...if we get it wrong..." Hinata asked. Monokuma gets a sadistic smile
"Then, I'll Punish everyone BESIDES the blackened! and the blackened will be allowed to graduate!"
"This can't be real...this CAN'T be real!" Hibiki yells.
"...so...if I may summarize..." Kiyomi looks up from her book "All of us...are trapped here...and our only way out...is to kill someone and then not get caught"
"Ding ding ding!" Monokuma says "That is exactly right!"
"...so...what's stopping us from just not killing anyone?" She asked
"Hm?" Monokuma tilts his head
"Y-yeah she's right!" Cho yells "What's stopping us from not committing murder and just waiting for the police to show up!"
"Yeah!" Hiko yells "Someone will notice us missing!" This causes Monokuma to laugh
"I wouldn't count on that~" He says creepily "And I also wouldn't count on forming an alliance either. Hasn't worked yet!"
'Hasn't worked yet?' Sakura thinks 'Does...that mean we aren't the first ones to go through this?'
"Well if there are no more questions. You are all excused!" Monokuma says
"Wait I-" Sakura yells but she was too late as Monokuma vanishes from sight, leaving the 16 teens alone. Aijin jumps backwards and holds up ninja stars
"If any of you even think of attacking me, know it will be your last mistake!" She yells. Everyone begins to yell and argue when suddenly the sound of a cracking whip is heard. Everyone turns and sees Kubo with his fishing rod
"Everyone relax!" He yelled. "Can't you see what's happening here? That bear is just lying! Trying to make us upset!"
"He's right!" Cho says "We need to focus on the big picture!" This seems to get everyone to calm down. Hiroto walks to the center
"Just in case what he says is the truth...we need a few ground rules" Everyone nods "Rule 1: We should meet every day in the morning for a head count. This gym should do nicely"
"Rule 2" Cho says "If you go anywhere, bring at least 2 other people with you! That includes the bathroom!"
"Ew" Ohana gags
"Rule 3..." Arthur thinks "Don't keep any dangerous items on hand!" He glares at Aijin and Hiko "That means you 2!" The girls glare but couldn't really deny his words
"And rule 4" Sakura said "We should continue to search for a way out" They all agree on these rules. Suddenly Monokuma appears
"Hey!"
"Ah!" Riku shouts falling back
"As long as we're talking rules" He takes out 16 small devices "Here! These are your E-Handbooks! They contain all your information and the rules of the school! So be sure to read them carefully~" He vanishes again. The teens sigh but grab their respective handbooks, and flip to the rules page
Rule 1: Violence against Headmaster Monokuma is strictly prohibited
Rule 2: Destruction of school property is strictly prohibited, unless it is necessary for a killing
Rule 3: No blackened can kill more then 2 people at a time
Rule 4: Once at least 3 people have discovered a body, the investigation will begin
Rule 5: After a certain amount of time has passed for investigation, the Class Trial will begin (attendance is mandatory)
Breaking any of these rules will result in punishment!
'That's all of them' Sakura sighs 'This whole situation...it feels like a bad dream! I cannot believe this is reality...'
"For now we should keep looking for any escape or some way of contacting the outside world" Aijin says. "Everyone partner up"
"I'll go with Aijin" Bakubaku says, causing the ninja to scoff
"I'll go with you two as well" Hinata says as that group heads out.
"Who wants to come with me?" Kubo asks. Arthur and Ohana nod and go with the fisherman.
'And before I knew it everyone was grouped up and heading out' Sakura thinks as soon there were only 4 people left: herself, Riku, Hiroto and Kiyomi
"I...believe it would be best if us 4 stick together..." Kiyomi says.
"Suppose its better then having one person alone" Hiroto says "Alright. Lets explore"
'We explored all day and found nothing we didn't already find anything new. It looks like the elevator can only go to the school level and the living area' Sakura thinks as a bell rings. She looks at a nearby monitor where Monokuma sat
"Students, New Hopes Peak has an announcement. It is now 10:00 PM. Please head to bed and get a good night's sleep!"
"Already that late..." Riku yawns "We made zero progress..."
"Lets head to bed" Hiroto says "Remember to meet in the gym tomorrow" The group nods.
"...be safe everyone..." Kiyomi says before walking away, book in hand. Everyone follows her example and head back to their respective cottage. Sakura lays in her bed and without even realizing it, falls asleep
Ding Dong Bing Bong!
"Ahem!" Monokuma clears his throat "Gooood morning! time to get up and have a productive day!"
"..." Sakura stared at the ceiling 'no matter how many times I hope and pray...I continue to wake up in this nightmare.' She sits up 'Everyone is at the gym. I shouldn't keep them-"
SLAM!
"AH!" Sakura yells. Cho stands there
"GOOD MORNING!" He yells "I WANTED TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE WAS AWAKE!"
"Cho!?" Sakura throws a pillow at him "What the hell!? I could have been changing!"
"...but you weren't" He says with a dumb grin on his face "ANYWAY! I HOPE YOU ARE FEELING ENERGIZED!" He walks over to the next cottage, leaving Sakura to stare
'...well I'm certainly awake now...' she sighs 'Does being the ultimate Football Player give him that much energy?' She heads towards the gym, this whole situation playing on repeat in her mind
