Season 2 Episode 3

Logan should be happy. The boys had finally made it back from their three-week vacation, and during that time Logan had practically perfected what he planned to say to Rory. However, while he might feel prepared for the conversation, actually finding the time to speak to Rory seems to be much easier said than done.

They had landed late afternoon, and Logan's plan was to make his way straight over to the Gilmore house. However, after calling Honor and hearing all about Lorelai's bachelorette party tonight, he was forced to rethink his plans.

The diversion had caused uncertainty within Logan, which he quickly uses to justify why he is now drowning his nerves in alcohol. He's currently drinking some of Colin's father's best scotch with his two best friends in Colin's pool house.

Finn is just opening another bottle when he jerks his head up looking rather eager. "I just had the most brilliant idea!" he says enthusiastically. When the other two boys look at the Australian expectantly, he announces, "We should defer our third year of Yale to sail the open seas!" He ditches the bottle as Logan and Colin stare at him as if he was crazy, and instead jumps onto the sofa, bouncing in place. "Think about it," he reasons while looking down at them, "We just had an amazing three weeks, just imagine that for a whole year. The world is our oyster. No parents to tell us what to do, no obligations, a new country every couple of days. It's perfect!" Finn then grabs the bottle from earlier, unscrews the lid, and takes a big swig, "To our third year!" he toasts.

Logan looks towards Colin with clear disdain for Finn's crazy idea painted all over his face. However, he is surprised to see that the young McCrea seems to be taken by the speech. He thought that Colin would surely be the voice of reason. "He's right," Colin says in disbelief, "A year off would be perfect! No rules, just doing whatever we want." He rushes up to a standing position before declaring, "I'll look at yachts right now" and walks off to find his laptop so that he can make a purchase.

Colin's departure means that Finn turns all of his attention towards Logan. He goes for a more direct approach as he tries to convince the young Hutzberger and brings up the blonde's biggest source of contempt. "Mate, you'd be out of the Dark Lord's clutches for the whole year," he entices, giving Logan a knowing look, "It would also delay your graduation date, meaning putting off HPG for longer. Think about Love, this would give you at least one more year with Rory before getting sent God knows where. New Haven and Boston are a lot closer than Europe mate." Finn is happy to see that Logan looks far more persuaded, and a smile starts to form on the blonde's face. "Okay, I'm in." Logan says with a laugh. Finn starts patting him on the back while he whoops in delight. The young Huntzberger is still sceptical about the whole thing, but he knows that this is probably just one of Finn's drunken proposals and nothing will come from it. There's therefore no harm in agreeing. He's way too used to Finn's craziness to let it phase him anymore.

The boys happily toast Finn's idea with not much more than pure alcohol running through their veins. Logan laughs at how this plan would never work, as he doesn't think he could leave Rory for such a long period of time.

Weirdly enough, he's not the only person thinking about Rory as Finn's thoughts were also on the girl. He couldn't get her meticulous way of researching, coupled with the knowledge that she and Lorelai were planning a big Europe trip out of his mind. He therefore thought that she would be a great resource for planning this expedition. It's at that moment that he realises he doesn't know where the girl is and so he turns to their best friend.

"Huntz, weren't you meant to be seeing Love tonight?" he asks the blonde curiously. Logan's good mood is dimmed slightly by the question, "Uh yeah, but she's busy with Lorelai's bachelorette party." The blonde's answer should have just been accepted by the other two, but instead the Australian gasps dramatically.

"What do you mean she's at Lorelai's bachelorette party tonight!?" Finn demands. Logan looks at his friend's bizarre reaction, before responding to him slowly. "Exactly that. I mean these things tend to happen just before someone gets married" the blonde explains to the Australian. Finn just seems to be even more offended by this. "I know" he scoffs at Logan's response, before raising his voice, "But how could they not invite me? I can't believe those bitches!"

"Where is it?" the annoyed brunette demands. Logan shrugs, "I don't know, some drag club or something."

"I'm not even going to go into why their choice of location should have meant an immediate invite" Finn says quickly, before announcing, "Right lads, we're crashing a bachelorette party!" The Australian then jumps up from his seat excitedly and the other two follow him shortly after as they are scared as to what he might do.

Meanwhile, at the drag club, the girls are just ordering their drinks. The Mae West lookalike turns to get each of their orders. When they get to Rory, she asks for a 'Shirley Temple', to which Mae gushes about their love for her. Honor is then quick to request a cosmopolitan, but then she changes her order to two of them. Mae nods and checks the list with the table before they go off to retrieve their drinks.

Once they've left, Lorelai turns to Honor and gives her a confused look. "What's with the two drinks?" she asks the blonde. "Well," the female Huntzberger begins, using the tone she normally has when she's trying to persuade someone to do something, "I thought, seeing as we're celebrating, that Rory could maybe participate with the drinking. What's better than starting off with something fruity like a cosmo..." she trails off looking at Lorelai for a reaction.

Lorelai doesn't have to think about it long before she agrees with the blonde. She reasons that Rory is with all of them, so she's safe and a couple of drinks won't hurt. Happy with the outcome, Honor asks Rory if she wants to try the drink, and soon the youngest Gilmore has a cosmopolitan in her hand.

The girls and Michel are a couple of drinks in and they are having a great time. They've been gossiping amongst themselves and Michel even hit the dance floor at one point, all of them are definitely on their way to being drunk. It's therefore a shock when they suddenly hear a familiar voice. "Do my eyes deceive me or is Rory Gilmore drinking? Ladies and Gentleman, she's gone to the dark side!"

All of them turn to see the owner of the voice, and most are unsurprised to see Logan sauntering towards them. However, he is pushed aside by an irritated-looking Finn who strides over to the group.

"I can't believe you didn't invite me to the party!" the drunken Australian yells at the girls. "Come on Finn, it was a girls-only event." Honor reasons. However, this seems to incense the tall brunette, "What's he doing here then?" the boy hisses while pointing at Michel. Sookie rolls her eyes before saying, "He invited himself, it's not like we were planning to leave you out. Also didn't you guys only just get back today?" The chef's answer seems to calm Finn down as he relaxes before replying "Fair enough, I guess I'll forgive you. Consider this my official invite and start thinking of ways to make it up to Finny." before he tries to find himself a chair.

In the meantime, Logan and Colin had greeted everyone else, with Lorelai, Rory and Honor jumping up to hug them hello. Once Rory is done hugging Colin, she turns to the blonde and in her tipsy state pulls him towards her a bit too eagerly. The action makes Logan's previous plans come rushing through his head as he holds her close, her behaviour therefore going unnoticed.

That is until the young Huntzberger tries to pull away and realises Rory's clinginess. "Ace, are you alright?" he asks her with a chuckle. His question seems to alert Rory, so she pushes herself off of him and waves him off, saying she's fine.

Once they've exchanged hugs, they all slip back into their chairs, with the boys grabbing additional ones for themselves. Logan makes sure that he's next to the youngest Gilmore, a movement not lost on Rory as the size of the table means that he's practically glued to her side. As soon as they settle down, Finn makes sure to get one of the waitresses' attention and the boys order their drinks while some of the girls opt for another round. They are all happily sipping away while the boys tell them about their holiday when Emily turns to Lorelai.

"You're very composed about all this" she assesses her daughter.

Lorelai flicks her eyes over to the boys before giving her mother a perplexed look, "Uh yeah," she replies confused, "I mean, I think we should have expected those three to crash the event at some point. They've never been good at being left out, especially Finn." Emily laughs at her daughter's naivety, "No, I meant how well you seem to be coping seeing as your wedding is only a week away! The week before mine I was a wreck" the oldest Gilmore explains. "So was I before all of mine" Patty pipes in. This leads to a discussion of her many husbands, to which Finn announces that he plans to be the next one, sending the older redhead a flirty wink. The whole table then turns to listen as Emily tells the story about her and Richard's wedding, the little scenarios she made up in her head, how she tried on her wedding dress every night and how safe she felt.

The story seems to have a chain reaction as Sookie goes off to call Jackson. Honor also claims that she needs the toilet, but Lorelai and Rory know that she's probably going off to talk to Josh. Lorelai is the last to go and they all believe that she's calling Max.

The words her grandmother spoke really resonate with Rory, and she's comforted to know that the person she feels safest with is sitting right next to her. They also really resonate with Logan, and he waits a few minutes after both Sookie and Honor have returned before turning to Rory and whispering in her ear, "Ace?" she hums in acknowledgment, "Can I talk to you for a second?" The brunette turns to look at him slightly confused and so Logan gives her his best puppy dog eyes, making her concede. As he moves to stand up, he also suggests to the other two boys that they are running low on drinks and that they shouldn't keep these lovely ladies waiting. The young Hunztberger uses it as a way to make his and Rory's departure much more subtle, so no one gives them a second thought.

Once he's confident that the other people in the club could have easily swept up him and Rory, Logan drags her over to the corridor by the toilets. His strange behaviour has Rory asking him, "Logan, what's going on?" When Logan is sure that they are out of everyone's eye line, he backs her into one of the darker corners. Rory's question makes him think about the whole conversation that he had prepared over the last three weeks and he can already see that his plan is starting to unravel. "Ace" he begins, his nervousness starting to come through, "There's something I need to know"

"About what?" she questions him, not understanding why he pulled her away from everyone else. Rory then gets a proper look at the blonde and tries to sober up as she's never seen him look so anxious.

"That morning, after you woke up in my bed, why were you acting so odd?" Rory looks down at his question, biting her lip guiltily. Her lack of response makes Logan press harder for an answer, "And then Ace, that look you had at the airport, what did that mean?" He begs for her to tell him, "Rory please!"

The young Gilmore looks around the club instead of meeting his eye before finally braving a glance in his direction. That was a bad decision on her part, as they lock eyes and she can see the desperation in his. Knowing she has to answer him, she starts speaking slowly, "Lo I…"

Logan interrupts her, "No Rory, I want an honest answer" he demands, staring at her intently. Rory takes a deep breath before letting the alcohol take its effect, giving her some Dutch courage and rambling, "I don't know what you want to hear. The truth is, ever since Dean and I broke up, I've been thinking about what it means to love someone. I mean, I couldn't tell him I loved him, but there had to be a reason. However, every time I thought about it, my thoughts always went back to you and the way we are around each other. And then you described to me what you thought being in love was and it got me thinking. But obviously our friendship is such an amazing thing and I would never want to ruin that, and you probably only see me as a little sister or som-"

Her rant is suddenly cut off by Logan's mouth crashing into hers. It takes Rory a second to realise that Logan had surged forward at the end of her little speech and grabbed hold of her face, pulling her into a kiss. Once her brain registers what is going on, her body relaxes and she starts kissing him back fiercely. Logan then starts to back her up against the wall, moving his hands so that they rest on her hips, his mind racing about how right this feels. Rory is in a similar state, her thoughts completely overwhelmed by the boy in front of her and so she pulls him even closer, pressing their bodies together. Feeling more confident due to Rory's reaction, Logan tries to take the kiss further as he sweeps his tongue along her bottom lip asking for entrance, something that Rory is more than eager to grant him. Logan then slips his hands further down and grabs hold of Rory's ass, giving it a squeeze and evoking a moan from the young Gilmore. It's swallowed by the kiss, but Logan can easily feel the vibrations due to their bodies being so close. Rory lifts one of her legs and wraps it around Logan's waist, wanting to be even closer. This new angle allows her to feel the real effect that their make-out session was having on him, followed by Logan's groan of approval.

After what feels like an eternity, but has barely been a few minutes, the two of them break apart for some much-needed air. Rory has to stabilize herself as she feels lightheaded. Logan starts kissing her neck, moving further down until she gives a noise of appreciation.

This new inflow of oxygen allows her to think much more clearly and she ends up pushing Logan away from her. "We shouldn't have done that!" she squeaks, completely panicked. "What!?" Logan yells, not hiding the hurt in his voice. "Shhh!" Rory looks around to see if his loud tone has brought anyone's attention, but they seem to be in the clear, so she turns back to the offended-looking blonde.

"No, it's not what you think," she tries to assure him and is upset to see him flinch when she tries to move closer. "I just didn't want our first kiss to be when we're both drunk. I wanted to be able to remember the whole experience clearly" she tells him bashfully. Logan sighs relieved that Rory wasn't regretting kissing him. She just wanted better circumstances, something that he can agree on when he really thinks about it.

"Okay" he whispers quietly and then offers her a small smile. He then says louder, "And you're right. There are so many things that I want to say, but this is not the right time to say them. We both need to be sober for the conversation, as this is really important to me, Ace. I can assure you of that" he tells her sincerely. Logan then looks back towards the general direction of the group, "I think we should start heading back before they come looking for us" he then turns his attention to the brunette in front of him, "but I promise we will talk about this tomorrow, Okay?"

Rory smiles, nodding her head while whispering "Okay" and stealing a quick peck. Logan then wraps his arm around her shoulder, pulling her towards him as they walk back to continue the bachelorette party with everyone else. His night is suddenly looking a lot better.

The next morning, Rory wakes up not being able to recall how she got to bed.

She goes to stretch but then realises her movements are restricted due to a weight across her waist. She looks down to see what it is and is met with an arm. Rory doesn't even have to turn over to know who that arm belongs to. The events of last night quickly come back to her and Rory stifles a groan as she remembers how Logan and her had resumed drinking after their little moment.

While they hadn't talked anymore on the subject, there had definitely been an increased amount of small touches between the pair, as well as many stolen glances and even small pecks when no one was looking. Rory is therefore happy that everyone else was drunker than them and didn't notice.

Even though she may be comforted by the fact that no one noticed something had changed, the truth of the matter was that it had. It is at that moment that Rory tenses as what they did finally catches up to her and she can already imagine the importance of their next conversation. She quickly glances behind her to see if Logan had sensed her panic, but it seems like he is still perfectly content sleeping. Rory therefore carefully lifts his arm, before slowly slipping out from the bed, hastily grabbing a pair of jeans and a top as she leaves the room.

She desperately needs to figure out what is going on, as she wants to go into the conversation prepared. It's not because she regrets anything from last night or that she doesn't want to deal with the consequences. It's more that she could easily see this going so much further and so she wants to make sure that she's able to communicate her feelings clearly. Her initial reaction to their kiss last night proved that she may not be the best at showing what she means and so she needs someone to help her go through her thoughts.

As Rory puts on her clothes in a hurry, she tries to think about who best to turn to. She scrawls down a note telling the boys to meet her at Luke's when they wake up while trying to run through potential people she can talk to. She would have gone to Lane, but she's unfortunately still with her cousins in South Korea. Her brain then supplies Honor, but she determines that that would be a bad choice seeing as she could say something to Logan. She weirdly thinks of Tristan, as he was the one who helped her realise her feelings, but she then rejects that choice as well. Her main problem is that whenever she has a dilemma, she always goes to Logan for advice, but obviously he is not an option. Rory is therefore left with the one other person that she normally turns to, her mother.

Knowing her mom is at work despite whatever hangover she must be suffering, she leaves her a message on her pager telling her 'S.O.S. Luke's', hoping that she will understand. Rory then makes her way over to the diner and quickly orders a large cup of coffee, Luke giving her a worried look. She sits down at the table and taps it anxiously as she waits for her mother.

Fifteen minutes and three cups of coffee later, Rory practically jumps out of her chair as she finally sees Lorelai approach the diner. However, when she sees her mother something seems to register with her and she suddenly regrets asking the other woman to come. She shouldn't be talking about this with her mom, the only person she should be talking to is Logan. While Rory is glad to have come to this decision, she realises that she needs an excuse as to why she dragged her mother out of work.

Lorelai pushes open the door to the diner, concerned as to why her daughter had asked to meet her. She thought that Rory would have been too busy hanging out with the boys or at least sleeping since she didn't have to work.

The raven-haired woman hastily makes her way over to the younger Gilmore, making eye contact with Luke to indicate that she wants coffee. She definitely needs it for the morning that she's been having. Not only is she nursing a killer hangover, but Rory's message explains her intense run in with Max at the Inn, as obviously the boys weren't awake to answer the door. As she plonks herself down across from the anxious looking brunette, she greets her daughter, trying to be cheerful, "What's up Mini-Me?"

In all that time Rory still hadn't been able to come up with a good reason as to why she would have asked her mother to come. She therefore tries to distract her instead, "Hey, how are you feeling after last night?"

Lorelai knows that Rory is stalling, but she can't help the groan that escapes her. She hits her head against the table as she mumbles a sentence about how sucky her day has already been. It's at this moment that Luke comes to refill Rory's coffee as well as pour Lorelai a cup. He turns to the younger of the two with a concerned look asking, "Do I want to know?" Rory shrugs at her mother's dramatic reaction, "Probably not. She had quite a lot to drink last night"

"Ah" Luke says in understanding, "I did tell her she was an idiot if she didn't eat before the party"

"I hate you both," Lorelai says. Luke just snorts before going over to his other customers, leaving the two girls to themselves. Once he's gone, Lorelai seems to perk up again, focusing her attention on Rory. "So what has you in this state?" she asks while looking her daughter up and down.

Rory avoids all eye contact with her mother when she answers, "I don't know what you mean"

The older Gilmore gives her daughter a dubious look, before sarcastically drawing out the word "Right" She then cocks her head, "Did something happen last night that Mommy doesn't know about?" She lifts one of her eyebrows to really show her curiosity.

"What! No!" Rory denies a little too quickly, she then tries to fix this by saying, "Why would you think something happened?"

Lorelai pretends to think before teasing, "Hmmm, I don't know. Maybe because the guy you admitted to being in love with just returned after three weeks of being away. I mean I'm surprised you haven't jumped him or something." The raven-haired woman isn't that surprised that Rory is blushing because of the comment, but she is shocked to see that her daughter is avoiding eye contact and stuttering over her words. She's just about to say something but is interrupted by the sound of the bell on the door and the loud arrival of the Three Stooges.

Finn seems to take charge as he bounds over to the two girls, while Colin and Logan follow behind at a much calmer pace. Rory is astounded that they are here so early seeing as she thought that they would still be passed out from the previous night, Finn especially.

What Rory doesn't know is that when she left the house earlier, the front door shutting was enough to wake up Logan. His eyes had flicked open at the sound and he was disappointed to see that he was alone in the bed. He rolled over looking for Rory, but was met with an empty room. The blonde squeezed his eyes shut as last night came back to him, and he had no doubt that Rory had freaked out. He therefore needed to find her before her overactive mind ruined everything.

The first logical place that Logan looked was in the kitchen, as that is where the coffee is. Even though he didn't find his best friend, he did find a note from her. As soon as he saw it, he rushed into the living room to shake the two boys awake. Once he saw that Colin was showing signs of consciousness, he announced that they needed to be ready to go to Luke's ASAP, and made his way to the shower.

Finally at the diner, Logan tries to gauge what mindset Rory is in. He feels much more assured when she seems to be relieved to see him and even offers him a radiant smile. He's therefore hoping no one notices the new spring in his step as some of his worries are eased. When they reach the two girls, Logan makes sure to take the seat next to the captivating brunette.

Due to the conversation Lorelai had just been having with her daughter, she notes how much closer the pair seems to be sitting. She's not sure, but she thinks that he has even slipped his hand onto her thigh. This isn't a completely foreign move for the blonde, but he usually does it when her daughter needs comfort, and from her current knowledge, she didn't believe Rory needed reassurance. She becomes even more confused when the young Gilmore looks over at him and mouths the word 'Later'.

While Lorelai is definitely interested in what is going on, she knows that Rory will not open up about it with the three boys being there. She therefore has one more coffee, before she bids them adieu and goes back to work. Seeing as her daughter seems happy with the guys, Lorelai goes back to worrying about her relationship with Max and her doubts about the wedding as she makes her way to the Inn.

Throughout what is left of the morning and into the early afternoon, Rory and Logan try desperately to find time where they can be alone so that they can talk. However, this proves much more difficult than they thought. It would seem as though God was punishing them in the form of Colin and Finn. Each time they tried to sneak away, one of them would suddenly need their attention. Then the one time that they were able to get away, Finn had burst into the room before either of them could say anything. He had dragged Rory into the kitchen, claiming that they needed to catch up on the gossip he missed while the boys were away.

It's just past 3.00 pm when the star-crossed lovers are able to distract the boys long enough for them to talk in Rory's room. Unfortunately, finally being able to actually speak seems to bring forward all the nerves that the two of them had been holding in. They therefore end up just staring at one another, before laughing at the absurdity. Neither has ever had this much difficulty talking to the other.

"Sooo" Logan says trying to start them off. Rory giggles at his exaggerated icebreaker, "So" she repeats. "About last night" the pair say at the same time.

Before they can play around with allowing each other to go first, Rory just takes charge by blurting out, "I meant what I said!" Seeing Logan's stunned face, Rory expands, "Last night. I meant what I said last night. Not the part about being drunk and the kiss. I mean I wanted to kiss you, don't get me wrong. But I meant more about my realisation and how everything kept bringing me back to you-"

She's cut off once again by Logan pulling her into a kiss. Just like the first time, Rory is completely overwhelmed by the whole experience, losing all rational thought. Logan wastes no time as Rory can feel his tongue already asking for permission. She gladly complies while running her hands through his hair, noting how soft it feels. Logan groans at the sensation and pulls her body against his, eliciting a moan from the brunette. They pull apart gasping for air, Rory's lips slightly bruised and Logan's hair messed up.

When they get their breathing under control, Rory jokes, "Is this your new way of shutting me up?" Logan laughs before shrugging, "Well if it does the job"

He's about to go in for another kiss when the door to Rory's room slams open and the two of them jump apart in surprise. They're worried in case the intruder has seen more than they should, but are met with a frantic Lorelai who doesn't even notice the state that they are in. Instead, she tells them to pack. When Rory asks what is going on, Lorelai says that she called off the wedding with Max, giving the reason that she didn't want to try on her wedding dress. This causes the pair to start packing, as they can see the distress that the elder Gilmore is in and they want to help.

As the five of them start packing up Colin's SUV, Logan and Rory realise that they never got around to talking about what the last two days actually meant. Neither had been able to get their true feelings across and the pair were both anxious to have the conversation as they wanted to resolve all the tension.

Logan has the foreboding feeling that it might be a while before they get another chance to talk. He then slips into the back of the SUV, joining the two Gilmores. He flicks his eyes over to Rory, who is on the other side of the car. Lorelai had demanded the middle seat, therefore separating them. She gives him an understanding look as they try to drown out Colin and Finn's bickering from the front.

At that moment they both have the same thought running through their heads. This was going to be a long journey.
