The three teens entered the office. Roland rolled (pun intented) with his chair.
He looked at the kids sternly and officially.
Amber wanted to say: "Dad, you wanted to see us?" but James shouted: "We didn't do anything wrong, we promise!"
Roland smiled albeit briefly.
"I know. Now, as you're aware, I called you here."
Silence among the teens.
"Good. It's for a good cause because you see the kingdoms of the east need stronger alliances between each other. I, along other kings, figured out the best way to do that is for you to marry."
"Marry?" Sofia asked.
"Yes. I have here three parchments, three lists of names for each of you to choose from. If the other side agrees to marry, we'll have a pair. Don't worry too much about choosing; you also have one month to decide."
"One month? But -"
"No buts. This is the time limit. I was supposed to tell you this yesterday but I did not want to take away your happiness then. Nor now. Do not think of this as a burden, but rather a duty. Sure you have your sweetheart in the list."
"Maybe two of them," James sighed defeated. Yep, among others, on his list there were:
Princess Hildegard of Freezenberg
Princess Clio of Corinthia
Princess Vivian of Zumaria
Princess Sandy of Idris
Sofia and Amber's lists were checked by the owners as well.
Sofia's had among others "Prince Joseph" and "Prince Hugo." and Amber's had "Prince Desmond" and "Prince Austin".
Amber and Sofia beamed excited: "We know already who to choose!". But then their expression saddened: "If only they love us back."
James scratched his head. Great. If he chooses Clio, Vivian will most likely be upset. Or he doesn't truly love Vivian. If he chooses Vivian, vice versa. And what about Isabel? Crap.
In Albuquerque, Hugo's kingdom, King Garrick called Hugo.
"Hugo, champ, this year things are hard for our kingdoms. That's why every royal who's 16 needs to get betrothed to one they choose. Here's your list of princesses from you can choose. You have one month to tell me the answer."
Hugo read out loud the girls.
"Princess Clarinda of Clarvis, Princess Sofia of Enchancia..."
He stopped. He smiled. "I know who to choose already." He circled the girl of his dreams.
In CSS, many girls swooned over him. However none mattered to him. Only one.
Can you guess who he picked?
In Mezbez, Prince Desmond came home tired. His sister Louisa greeted him. "Heya, big bro! How are you!"
Desmond smiled. "Great, unfortunately dad called me to tell me something really important. Wait here."
Desmond stepped in his dad's office.
"Dad. You wanted to see me?"
The King stepped forward with a parchment.
"You see, Desmond, my son, you need to marry for the benefit of our kingdoms. You are expected to choose from this list in a month a princess to be betrothed to."
"Alright, dad." Desmond sighed.
He looked on the parchment. He saw among others Princess Barbie, Princess Amber, and Princess Vivian.
"Gee, I don't know" he moved his fingers unsure on the parchment.
Who is he gonna pick? Amber or Vivian? They're both great girls.
In Zumaria, Queen Cecily called her beloved Viv.
"Vivian, dear, come quick!"
"Yes, mom?"
She came as fast as she could.
"You see, my dear, you have to choose from this list who you must marry, for the good of our kingdoms."
Vivian looked on it. She saw Lenny, James and Desmond on the list.
Oh, no!
The simple thing would be to pick Lenny, but she doesn't love him. If she would pick either Desmond or James, both of them would be endangered.
Even if not, she still doesn't knw who does she love.
This is very complicated.
In Elisium, Danny called Lenny to him.
"Leonard, listen." he said kindly. "I know this must be difficult for you, but I'll be here for you if you need emotional support.
"Get to the point" Lenny snapped, rolling his eyes.
"You need to marry one of the girls you choose from here for the good of our kingdoms!" Danny said fast.
"Gimme that!" Lenny boiled.
He scanned the list with his eyes, and he saw Vivian on the list. He looked happier than ever.
"I'm gonna marry Vivian?!! Yes!!!!!" Lenny beamed. He circled her without even looking to other girls.
"Here" he threw the list to Danny. Danny did not want to ruin his happiness by saying he's only betrothed to her only if she agrees to.
He shut up.
In Miradero, there was trouble.
"But dad! We don't even know any of those girls! We don't love them and we most certainly don't want to marry them!" Prince Antonio and his brother Milagro snapped.
"Nonsense" the king huffed.
"If you disobey me, there's gonna be trouble. Do it for our families. Do it for our kingdom!"
"Ay ay, ay, the things a royal must do!" Milagro said. "For once, I want to be a villager!" And he stormed off, closing the door loudly.
"M, wait!" Antonio said.
Their father said: "Let him go. The anger will go away. Ha! Wants to be a villager! Yeah, right."
The coach stopped in Victoria Island.
Victoria Island was like Albuquerque, cold all year long. The kingdoms had plants and animals, but they were rare. Mostly during summer.
(Kinda like Canada, if you will.)
Sofia hopped off the coach. Tori was waiting for her.
"Ah. Tori, it's colder than ever here!" Sofia shivered.
Brrrrrr!!!!
"That's alright. We can go inside. There we won't feel chilly."
They went inside. They took their coats off.
Victoria was dressed in a beautiful purple silk dress. Sofia was dressed in a beautiful white lace gown. Tori took her bow and arrow.
"Ok. Here we go" Tori said, aiming for the target.
The arrow landed near the target. Where the arrow hit, some ice formed.
(Exactly like the ice archery from MLP episode Equestria Games).
"Oh, shoot." she said frowning. "I missed."
Victoria and Sofia spent time doing ice archery and talking.
"No way! You're gonna be betrothed?" Tori gasped.
"Only in a month. Do you think Hugo likes me back?"
"Sure he does, Sofia! You're gonna make a terrific couple."
"That's what James said."
Forgot to say Tori and James are best friends as well. They are so alike, bubbly and excitable.
"I take you don't know of this bethroted thing?"
"No." she frowned. "My mommy and daddy said nothing to me. Guess Victoria Island has no conflicts and is going strong."
Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
