"Hey Yue," Sokka said, looking up at the moon. At night Sokka would go out to the pond in Toph's backyard to talk to the moon spirit about his day.
"Tomorrow I'm going to ask Toph to marry me. At night to be exact" He paused and inhaled the fresh breeze that had just come in, "I'm a little nervous, but I know she's the one. I don't know what I would do without her. We've been best friends since we were kids, and throughout time I found feelings for her that I've never had for anyone else. Every time we kiss, I feel weak to my knees… like I'm on cloud nine. It feels like home. Yeah, she's the one" He bit his bottom lip thinking about his future with her.
"In the morning I'm going to ask Lin if it's okay I marry her mom. I think it's important to have her blessing. Lin is such a big part of Toph's life now, And i'm not just marrying Toph, I'm marrying her whole world! And Lin is a part of that world. I want Lin to be okay with me being a part of Toph's world as well. Since it's always been her and Toph" He took a long pause, "Could you shine bright tomorrow? So the moment can feel more special"
"I know you want me to be happy. You were there for every part of my life. During the war, after the war. When things between me and Suki were rough, that ended in a breakup. To me being there for Toph when she was pregnant. And... eventually falling in love with her"
He stayed outside for a few more minutes before calling it a night and going back inside. He passed his office and into Lin's room to give her a goodnight kiss before going into his and Toph's room. Toph had just finished using the washroom and was getting into bed.
Sokka took off his shirt and got into bed himself. He wrapped his arms around Toph and gave her a kiss on the lips and forehead before resting his head on top of her's. He was nervous but mostly excited for the next day.
The next morning he woke up to the bright early sun rise, beaming through a crack in the curtains, reflecting on the wall in front of him. He raised his head and looked around with squinted eyes, before laying them on the woman in his arms.
As much as he'd like to stay in bed longer with his girlfriend. He had a whole day ahead of him that consisted of waking Lin up early (Which means she'll be moody all morning, so he has to mentally prepare for that) making breakfast and asking for her blessing before Toph woke up.
He slowly got out of bed, making sure not to wake up the blind earthbender. And made his way to the bathroom. He got ready and made his way into Lin's room.
He slowly opened the door and walked towards her bed. She was curled up in her blanket, snuggling the fabric to her face. Sleeping peacefully with her hair in a mess, covering parts of her face.
He bent down and moved her hair away from her eyes, calling her name in a whisper to wake her up.
"Wake up Linnie" He gently shook her
The little girl's eyelids slowly opened groggily, presenting her pale green eyes.
"Hey" He said with a warm smile
"mm Chief?" She said groggily
"Wake up warrior. We got an important meeting in the kitchen regarding a mission that relies on your opinion," Sokka explained in their roleplay act they did the previous night.
Lin groaned and lifted the blanket over her face.
"C'mon. It's a good one," He pouted, "I'll put extra whip cream on your pancakes," He teased with a smirk
Lin slowly lowered her blanket, staring straight into Sokka's eyes. "You promise?"
"I promise on the moon spirit" He stood up and put his hand over his heart, "Even mom won't know," He smirked
Lin lifted her blanket and sat up with a grin. Sokka smiled and walked to the dresser in the room pulling out her clothes for the day. He handed her the clothes and walked out of her room, closing the door behind him to give her privacy. He quietly walked past his room - careful not to wake his girlfriend - and into the kitchen.
He began to take out all the ingredients to make breakfast, and when he finished, Lin came into the kitchen. Sokka handed her her small apron and he put on his. Sokka turned on the radio and they began to cook. Sokka had Lin make the batter while he washed and cut the berries.
In the middle of cooking the pancakes, sokka decided that it was the right time to ask Lin the question. Sokka flipped a pancake and called out Lin's name to get her attention. Lin was standing by the radio, listening to the sports people when sokka called her name. She walked back to Sokka and stood next to him.
"I have something reallyyy important to ask you" He said, slightly above a whisper.
"What?"
Sokka reached into his pant pocket, bringing his hand into a fist as he pulled out from his pocket. He kneeled down in front of the little girl.
"Do you know what this is?" he asked, unwrapping his hand to reveal an emerald velvet ribbon with a palm size rock chained to it. A creative earth symbol that seemed to have been mixed with the water symbol, was carved onto the small circular rock.
Lin crooked her head, looking down at the necklace. "Aunt Katara has one like that. One is from her mother and the other is from uncle Aang. She said he made it for her when he asked her to marry him,"
"That's right linny" He ruffled her hair and kissed her forehead, "Except I made this one and I want to give it to your mommy,"
"Are you going to ask my mommy to marry you?" She asked, clueless
"Yes, I am. Are you okay with that?"
Lin nodded with a kind smile and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him. Sokka sighed a smile and hugged back the little girl. Soon Lin pulled back and asked, "Are you going to be my dad now?"
Sokka was surprised by the question, but knew the answer. He n' Toph had talked about it before a couple months back when Lin brought it up at the dinner table. Sokka didn't want to budge in because it wasn't his place so he left it to Toph to answer. But her response was, "Ask another time," before eating a piece of rice.
Later that night he and Toph had a one on one conversation in bed. A serious conversation. She said she had nothing against it because he was by her side during everything. It would be reasonable for someone who helped raise a girl to be called 'dad' even if they aren't biologically related.
"Yeah I guess so," He replied to the little girl
Lin gasped and wrapped her small arms around Sokka again. Hugging him tightly. "I love you dad"
He felt himself freeze before a warm smile tugged at his lips. He hugged back, "I love you too kiddo," he kissed her hair and pulled back, giving her one last kiss on the cheek before getting up. "Alrighty, let's continue working, and don't tell your mommy anything about this. Okay?"
Lin nodded and went to sit in the living room while Sokka finished breakfast. Soon, right as Sokka finished cooking, Toph walked into the kitchen and stood by Sokka.
"Morning you two," She said before giving Sokka a kiss on the cheek. She turned and faced her daughter. "Lin, how come you're up early?"
"I wanted to help dad cook" She replied calmly
Toph's eyes shot wide open at Lin calling Sokka 'dad'. "Okay," Toph replied and turned back to her boyfriend. "I guess she's calling you 'dad' now,"
"Yup" he said, picking up two plates with food. "And I think I can get used to it," He said, giving her a kiss on the cheek before walking to the table.
"Hm" Toph hummed and then grabbed her plate from the counter before walking to the table and sitting down.
After breakfast, Sokka cleaned the kitchen while Toph played with Lin in her room. Toph had been busy with work lately, so Sokka told her to play with Lin while he cleaned the kitchen. When he finished cleaning, he went to the living room and sat down. Listening to the radio. Soon, Toph walked out and sat next to Sokka in the living room. He wrapped an arm around her and kissed her forehead. Toph rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.
"Hey, I was thinking we all go out later tonight for dinner,"
"Hm, not a bad idea. As long as it's not watertribe food," The two chuckled and Sokka kissed her head.
"That's fine by me,"
Later that night, Toph was getting ready while Sokka got Lin ready. She took a shower and changed into a nice set of clothes for dinner. She brushed her wet hair and pulled it into her usual bun. She slipped on her arm bracelet and walked out into the living room where she found Sokka and Lin chatting on the couch.
"Did I really take long?"
"It doesn't matter. Are you ready?"
Toph nodded and Sokka took her hand and led his 2 girls out of their home.
After dinner, Lin insisted on going on a walk on a beach because the moon looked nice tonight. (This was in fact a part of Sokka's plan. While he was getting Lin ready, he explained to her his plan what part she had). Lin walked in front of the couple, picking up shells she'd found and putting them in her pocket. In the middle of their walk, Sokka stopped next to a large rock and suggested they take a seat against the rock.
Lin sat on Toph's lap while telling stories of her at school. While Toph ran her fingers through the little girl's hair and laying her head on Sokka's shoulder. Sokka looked up at the moon and could swear that he saw it shine as a reassurance to him.
"Why don't I have any siblings?" The little girl asked, snapping out Sokka from his thoughts. The two adults pursed their lips as they tried to think of a response. Toph turned to Sokka for his opinion. "Why don't you guys have a baby?"
"If the moon spirit wants us to have a baby, she will give us a baby," Sokka replied as best as he could. Toph nodding along
"Interesting," Lin said, "I'm going to look for shells!" She announced getting up and running away from the couple to look for shells.
"Don't go too far!" Toph yelled after her
"I won't mommy"
Toph smiled, "That kid is growing up to fast"
"She is. Maybe another one wouldn't hurt"
"What?" Toph asked
"Yeah. A little you or me running around the house"
"And when do you plan on having this child?" Toph asked sarcastically
"After our wedding" Sokka replied nonchalantly
"What?" Toph asked in confusion. Sokka reached in his pocket and pulled out the emerald colored velvet pouch. He grabbed Toph's hand and placed the pouch in her hand. "What's this?"
"Just open it"
Toph touched the pouch with both hands, getting a sense at the velvet and what could be inside. She opened the bag and flipped it over, the necklace falling out into her palm.
"What's this?"
"This is a betrothal necklace I made. I used a meteorite as the rock and carved our nations on it"
"This is really sweet," She said, brushing her fingers over the carved rock. Sokka stayed quiet to see what else Toph had to say. "So are you going to ask the question or are you just going to sit there?"
Sokka huffed a chuckle and turned his body towards Toph. "Toph beifong, the greatest earthbender in the world, inventor of metalbending, best mother in the world and the love of my life; Will you marry me?"
Toph chuckled at the titles Sokka said. "Hmm, I don't know. Only if you promise to give me foot rubs after work and goodnight kiss before bed."
"That's a promise I can keep"
Toph smiled softly, "Then yes, I will marry you"
The two reached for each other and shared a passionate kiss.
"I love you"
"I love you too snoozles. Now quit being sappy and put the stupid necklace on me"
"I'll have you know, I put a lot of time and effort into this" Sokka said with an offended tone. Toph moved her hair to the side and Sokka put on the necklace
At that moment, Lin came running back and sat down in between the two putting down the shells she found in front of her.
"Are you getting married mommy?"
"Yeah," Toph said, pulling Lin onto her lap. "Want to be the flower girl?"
"Yeah!" Lin squealed
Soon Lin became sleepy and Sokka carried her home. After Sokka put down Lin in her bed, the couple shared a heated night of love and passion and went to sleep in each other's embrace.
