Hermione got up from her seat along with her friends to head for Hogwarts. Slowly they all got down on the station. Hermione began scanning the entire area with a smile on her face.
"It feels so good coming back" Luna exclaimed with joy.
"Yes it does" Neville agreed.
"I really missed this" Ginny said as she took Harry's hand in hers. Everyone knew that they were dating and they were perfect for each other.
"I have missed these smiles. People hardly ever smiled when Voldemort was alive" Hermione said still looking around.
While exploring her surrounding, she spotted the Slytherins getting down. Pansy Parkinson got down first and was being nosy as always followed by Blaise and Draco. And at last Theodre Nott practically jumped off the train. Theo said something to Draco and turned his head in the same direction where the Gryffindors were present. He spotted the bushy haired girl, who was staring at him, and smirked. Hermione suddenly turned her head to the other direction.
"Let's go inside, shall we?" Ron suggested to his friends.
All of them agreed at once and started heading for the castle. On the way, they found that Hogwarts was decorated with floating lanterns and the flags of all the four houses. As they entered the Great Hall, they found the tables were placed like always. There were four tables, placed in respective rows, for all the four houses. After a couple of minutes, everyone had settled down in their places and were chatting with each other.
"May I have your attention, please?" Headmistress McGonagall cleared her throat and announced her presence. After Dumbledore, McGonagall was appointed as the new headmaster of Hogwarts.
"My dear students, welcome to Hogwarts." She greeted everyone with a wide smile which she got back in return from most of them leaving some slytherins. "As you know that last year we defeated Voldemort and hence we are able to be here. I assure you that there's no threat to the students of Hogwarts and the castle is well-protected so there's no need to be afraid. Last year, many students were unable to have their academic session so they were invited to complete their last year and I'm delightful to say that most of them agreed to the invitation. As for first years, the School of Hogwarts: Witchcraft and Wizardry welcomes you. You will be provided the best education. Now let the feast begin"
Everyone became occupied in eating the delicious meals that appeared on their tables. Ron cracked some joke which made everyone laugh. Hermione held her stomach as it started aching due to laughter.
"Ron, stop!" She warned him between her laughters.
"Ok, relax. I won't continue" Ron replied laughing.
Hermione just turned backwards in order to stop laughing and spotted the Slytherins. Pansy was being too cozy with Malfoy and Blaise was doing his best to ignore them and well Theo was being Theo by saying something to Pansy that was irritating her.
"What are you staring at?" Ginny asked and glanced at the same direction Hermione was staring.
"Nothing in particular" Hermione shook her head.
"Are Malfoy and Parkinson dating?" Ginny asked still looking at the Slytherins.
"Who knows and who cares?" Hermione shrugged.
"Attention, please" McGonagall addressed the students. "As we all know that we always appoint a Head girl and a Head Boy to maintain harmony and discipline among the houses. So this year's Head Girl is Hermione Granger from Gryffindor"
Everyone started clapping for her except the Slytherins and Hermione smiled widely while her friends congratulated her.
"And the Head Boy is Theodre Nott from Slytherin. There were claps and whistles from the Slytherin tables but the rest of the houses became silent.
"I request you both to follow me" McGonagall announced and started moving towards her chamber.
Hermione and Theo stood up from their places and obeyed their headmistress. They followed her in silence while Theo smirked once or twice at Hermione which made her jaws clench.
"Now I assume that you both know that it is a very big responsibility to be a Head Boy or Girl and I think you will not break my trust on you by any means" McGonagall directed at both of them.
Both of them nodded.
"Here's the list of your duties and patrol. And you both won't share same dormitory this year due to shortage of place. Am I clear?"
"Crystal" Theo replied with a nod.
"Yes, headmistress" Hermione replied simultaneously.
"Well in that case you both are free to go back to your friends"
They nodded and turned to exit the chamber. As soon as they were out Theo said, "Isn't that a pity, Granger? That you can't share the dorm with me?"
"Like if I wanted to" She replied sarcastically.
"Oh, I know you are dying to share the same bedroom with me" He smirked at her.
"Bugger off, Nott" Hermione made a disgusted face and left the place as soon as she could.
On the way back to Great Hall, she was thinking why the heck was Nott being such a prat to her. And he hadn't called her a mudblood yet. Well it seemed like the war did change people for the better. She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't even see someone was coming from the front and bumped into the person.
"Oww" Hermione exclaimed rubbing her forehead. "Sorry"
"Watch where you are going you st- . Oh, Granger. It's you"
It was Draco Malfoy.
"Malfoy" She responded. "I was just lost in thoughts"
"Of course you were" He scoffed and brushed past her. Hermione caught the smell of his cologne when his robes touched hers while he brushed past her. She had to admit that he smelt rather nice. Did Hermione just think that? Damn! She cursed herself for thinking like that about Malfoy and shook her head and headed for the Great Hall. This year was going to be awfully complicated.
