A Visit From Friends:
My Favorite People:
That weekend as I was sitting at the Firehouse, I got a call from Emily. I left the lounge area and went into the bunk area to take the call. She and I talked for nearly thirty minutes before she got to the good part. She, her mom, Bosco, Cruz and Carlos were all on their way down with my snowmobile and would be in Chicago by Sunday afternoon. They had gotten the week off of work and had all missed me so they were coming to see me and bringing the promised snowmobile. As excited as I was to have friends in Chicago to hang out with, I was more excited to have friends and family coming down from New York. I had missed them in the week that I had been in Chicago. When I got off the phone, I left the bunk area and went back out to the table where my laptop was sitting. Uncle Kelly was the first to get me to tell him about the call.
"So, your new friends from the dance club?"
"No, though they wanted to come over this weekend I kind of told them that I was grounded for a week; let you cool down a little. No, that was Emily Yokas. She and her mom, Bosco, Cruz and Carlos are coming down for the week and will be here Sunday afternoon. They're also bringing my snowmobile."
"Well at least I'll be able to talk to this Bosco guy. Is that his real name?"
"Well his full name is Maurice Boscorelli, but everyone just calls him Bosco; only his mom calls him Maurice."
"Well, then Bosco it is."
"I told Emily that I would email the address to the firehouse and they were just going to rent at a local motel."
"Well that shouldn't be that bad. Is Emily the only kid that is coming?"
"Well Kim was going to come and bring her son but she had to work because Carlos wanted to come. And Emily and I basically grew up together. Though she has other friends that she hangs around, she really is my only teen friend. Everyone else was adults."
"Well then I guess it's a good thing you made friends this week."
"Yea, well just be glad that they aren't gang members."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Shay asked.
"I already told you about what the gang does for me when I go out on my snowmobile. I always had at least one gang member on the back of my snowmobile so nobody would be able to steal it when I went into the grocery stores. Okay, so it wasn't a friendship, more like a business deal. I bought them groceries and they were my security!"
"Yea, we're going to keep the interacting with gang members to a minimum around here if not ever. We'll talk more about this later on. Besides emailing Emily what are you doing on your computer?"
"Well since I'm technically still in school, I gave all my teachers my email so that they could email me my assignments so that I wouldn't have to change schools when school is almost out anyways. If I stay past summer, then I will change schools but for now, school work is calling."
"Well if you need any help, don't hesitate to ask."
I smiled and went back to my homework after emailing Emily the address. I plugged in my headphones so that I could zone everyone else out and get my assignments done before my friends got there. I had printed the math pages out at home and would have Emily take them back when she and everyone else headed back to New York. It was also technically Spring Break in our school district so I wanted to get my assignments done before Emily got here so that we could at least have some fun while she was here.
By the time I was done with all of my homework, except maybe my end of the year project, Mills had dinner ready. I shut my laptop, put my notebook and math folder on top and went to get something to eat with everyone else. Even though he was a Candidate for the Firehouse, Mills was also a pretty good cook, which wasn't that much out of the ordinary since his mom owned and ran a diner near the firehouse.
Friends Arrive:
Sunday came rather quickly and as I woke at the firehouse, I could hear a truck pulling up outside. Uncle Kelly and the others hadn't left during the night and were still in the firehouse this morning so it must've been my friends. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my robe, slipped my slippers on and ran out of the room. Uncle Kelly was about to ask where the fire was, with a smile on his face, when Dawson came in.
"Looks like she heard the truck pulling up. Her friends are here Kelly."
"Oh well that explains a lot. In the week she's been here I don't think I've ever seen her move that fast."
"What do you expect from a teen that hasn't seen her real friends in like a week?" Shay asked.
"Yes well there is that."
As I ran out of the firehouse, I saw Emily getting out of the truck and practically mauled her over as I ran out to her.
"EMILY! You're here, you're here!"
"Angel! Oh god, you're loud. But it is so good to see you."
"Hi Angel; so do we get to meet your uncle?" Faith asked coming around the side of the truck.
"Faith; yes you can meet him, I just want to relish in seeing my friends. I've missed you so much."
"Well, will you kill us if we tell you that we brought more than just your snowmobile down?"
"What else did you guys bring?"
"We'll talk more about that later. How about you introduce us to everyone first, starting with your uncle." Bosco said as he shut his door. I turned to him with a big smile on my face.
"Okay, well follow me then."
We walked into the firehouse together, Bosco had an arm around me like he was trying to protect me but I knew better, it was just his way of saying he was glad I was happy.
"Uncle Kelly, this is Bosco and these are my friends, Emily and her mom Faith, Carlos, and Maritsa. Bosco, Faith and Maritsa are cops at the 55th precinct and Carlos is a paramedic at the 55 firehouse. Uncle Kelly is in charge of Squad down here."
"Well it's very nice to meet you all. And Bosco, is it, we're going to need to talk after you guys get settled in the hotel you're staying at."
"Oh well, we're not staying at a hotel. We were going to but then a former colleague offered his home to us as he wanted to catch up on stuff since he hasn't been around in a while."
"Oh well that sounds like fun."
"Yes, yes it is."
