After The War

Ch. 4 Todoroki Family Part Three

We have reached the final part about the Todoroki family and see what caused a happy family to become divided and full of despair and hatred toward Endeavor and see what caused Rei to fall apart.

I appreciate you all sticking with this story and seeing what will happen following the war but of course with my input and ideas in this story. The chapter you just read and will now read will be important to see where the Todoroki family goes from here and how they will handle Dabi.

I will catch back up with you all at the end of the chapter to share my thoughts on this chapter and the chapters going forward in this story. Hope you enjoy and see you at the end.

We arrive at the Todoroki Household where we see Enji and Rei having a heated discussion while Shoto is sleeping peacefully. Enji tells his wife "from now on, we're keeping shoto away from the other kids." He also says "I'm too busy with work to look after him 24-7 which is why I've hired help, but you don't take your eyes off Toya."

Rei says to him "he just wants you to look at him, to notice him, that's all" to which Enji replies to her "all I can show anyone is the world of heroes" and Rei angrily says "heroes" with a hateful glare. Rei says to him before he leaves "aren't you just running away" and Enji is shocked with fear at that realization.

We jump to five years later and we see Fuyumi and Natsuo asking Toya to play which he says "sure." We also see Shoto watching his siblings play in the yard but Enji drags him away saying "don't look at them Shoto, your siblings belong to a different world than you." Shoto asks his dad "can I please play with Toya and them" but his dad shoots him down by saying "no, it is time to train your output capacity" and while this is happening, Toya glares hatefully at his dad and Shoto.

We then arrive at night time where Toya is talking to Natsuo while he is sleeping. Toya tells him "I mean that one time was my fault, little Shoto didn't do anything, but dad's to blame too." Toya again says "won't even pay attention cuz we're failed creations." Toya also says "crazy right, is that what modern heroes are all about, making all these kids they don't even need." Natsuo says to him "why don't you bug sis about this stuff once in a whle" and Toya's response you're telling me to buzz off too Natsu, even you." Toya says with a crazed look on his face and tears in his eyes "I'm talking to you cuz you're the only who gets it, you agree right. The women in this household are good for nothing."

Toya is about to head off to the mountains to train again and Rei stops him and says "wait, you're about to run off to the mountain again aren't you." "Why don't you hang out with your classmates once in a while" to which Toya says "I don't need friends, we live in different worlds."

Rei says "Toya, do you even want to be a hero?" "As your mother, it looks like to me you're suffocating because of who your father is and you're suffering for it." "Toya there are many paths available, countless options for you." "Try looking beyond your father, see what else is out there. If you do that, I'm sure you'll find the man you want to become."

Toya glares hatefully at his mom and says in a dark tone "what the hell do you know mom?" Re is shocked by both is face and his tone but he does not stop there and says "where'dja get that tidbit, some self-help book." "I know about grandma and them being real poor, so they had to sell you off, you had no choice." Re is scared and shocked and starts to say his name but he cuts her off, that's why I was born right.

He says to her "you're guilty too mom" and Rei is scared and says shakily "Toya." The fire won't go out and we see Toya at age thirteen training his fire in the mountains. Toya was always small because he came out of the oven a little early, but at long last, he had a growth spurt. Along with those physical changes, his fire changed from red to blue.

Toya says "right… it's just another bodily process. My firepower's lined to my feelings, so if I get riled up… I'm pretty awesome, if I do say so myself." "But dang, when I get worked up… I dunno why, but I start crying." Toya is talking to his dad saying "listen next you get a day off, you gotta come up to Sekoto peak with me."

Enji lifts Toya's shirt and see his burns and says "new burns, where he can keep them hidden, he's been training that way on purpose." Enji also says "dammit again" to which Toya replies with "no wait, what I can do now is really cool, you gotta come see." Toya also says "I might be as awesome as Shoto sooner or later." "Maybe I'll even be better than All Might some day, then you gotta give me some respect dad. Enji is angry and that is when Toya says to him "you'll be glad you created me, I just know it."

We jump to another scene and see Enji yelling at Rei and says to her "why didn't you stop him, huh Rei. Dammit that's all I asked you to do." Shoto is crying and yells at his dad "don't bully mommy, stop it don't be mean to her" to which Enji then says "get out Shoto, it's none of your business. While this is happening, we see Fuyumi and Natsu hugging each other in the corner crying. Rei says in the same tone Toya used on her saying "what the hell do you know mom" to which she says "I can't stop him." Yes my options were limited, but I made my choice and I walked that path of my own accord. I had hoped that if nothing else that I would keep smiling yet.

We jump back to the present in the hospital room with Rei saying "and you din't go after him" to which Enji says "I though I'd only be throwing fire on the fuel but he says no, that's not it." We see Toya crying on his knees at his training spot saying "quit crying already stupid tears, dammit." Enji says "the truth is, I had no idea what to say to him." Toya's flamers start to flare up and says hatefully "dad" and Rei says "neither did I."

We see Dabi recalling that day when he would become the villain known as Dabi as his flames started to overtake him and he says "man, that was hot." "Gah, the flames, can't stop them" but he finishes saying "welp that's just deserts."

We see a massive blaze light up the day and burn Sekoto Peak and the people are all looking on scared at the sight but none more so than Enji and he heads thee to see if he can find his son and he says "if only I'd given it all up that day."

He recalls that descent into madness by saying "having killed Toya, I fel there was no turning back so I poured all my energy into Shoto… at the expense of everything else." Rei then says "once Toya was gone, you grew worse and worse until I couldn't stand the sight of you." "It even got so bad, I started seeing hints of you in the children's faces."

Fuyumi recalls that moment by saying "I knew our family was broken, but I was too scared to interfere. All I could do was to try to fix things just to keep up appearances." Natsuo says to his dad "it was you who started all of this, you're the root cause but… maybe if I'd slugged you in the face and made you have a few serious talks with him… "Dabi" never would've come about and I would've ben enjoying some good soba with Shoto all these years."

Rei hands him her favorite flower saying "you're not the only one who's responsible, and now we all have to take responsibility for what comes next." Enji is shocked but says "are you really the woman I married?" Rei then says "your heart may be broken but we're here to get you back on your feet, you have no choice but to fight Dabi." She then says "one of our children suffered much more than us but well despite having every right to resent me, he's started to call me mom again." She smiles at Shoto saying "he's been making friends at U.A. and now he's the one saving us."

Shoto recalls his battle with Izuku at the sports festival where everything started to become right for him and where he changed as both a person and a hero, and remembers the person who became his best friend and like a brother to him. Rei says "Shoto is our family's hero."

Shoto tells hid dad "I talked with mom before we came to see you. I thought this couldn't be your battle to fight and that I was the only one who could do it, but I was wrong." Shoto holds out his hand to him saying "once you're done grieving, stand up, cuz we all have to stop Toya." Hawks and best jeanist are standing outside his hospital room and smiling at the hope returning to the number one hero.

We have reached the end of this chapter and the flashback on the Todoroki family, what caused a normal loving family to become the mess it is today, and how the villain known as Dabi was born.

I know you all want to get back to Izuku and we will but it is important to know about the Todoroki family and see what will become of them moving forward.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter because the action won't stop and more secrets will be revealed as we get back to seeing what is happening with Izuku while all this was going on.
