"Alright Naruto, why don't you tell me the goals you want to achieve in at least a year from now? And remember, controlling the Kyuubi and learning Sage mode are the last stages of your training," Jiraiya said.
"Well, in the next year, I want to be almost just as good as Neji and Lee in taijtutsu. Also, I want to improve my chakra control. I told you about the genjutsu I pulled in the hospital right, I want to do that again. What else…
Oh yeah, make sure I can do the Rasengan one-handed, find out my elemental affinity and train it bonkers, so that in the next stage, I can learn whatever jutsus I want. I think that's fair enough, right?"
"With your shadow clones, even all this might take a year, so yeah this is a good target for now. Now let's find out your elemental affinity," Jiraiya replied as he pulled out a small piece of parchment.
"Alright gaki, all you got to do is channel chakra into this paper. The way it reacts will show your affinity."
"….. I feel like you are bullshitting me."
"Fuck you. That's the way to do it. Take it or leave it gaki."
"Fine, fine give me that damn paper."
Jiraiya hands Naruto the paper and just as Naruto touches it the paper gets shredded to pieces.

"I knew you were just fucking with me."

"Then how did it tear into dust-like particles just as I, and I cannot stress this enough, TOUCHED IT!
"THAT'S BECAUSE YOU HAVE CHAKRA RESERVES THE SIZE OF FREAKIN' KONOHA!"
Naruto paused.

"Well, anyway since the paper tore up into a million pieces, its safe to say that you have a very strong primary wind affinity."
"What would have happened if I had some other element?"
"If fire, then it would burn. Water, then it becomes damp, Earth, turn to dust. And lightning, then it crumples."
"I see…."
"Well then, here are your exercises kid. Master water walking, cut a leaf with your wind chakra only and then cut a rock with your wind chakra only."
"Explain. All of them. They make zero sense Ero-sennin."
Jiraiya sighs and rubs his eyes.
"Mastering water walking means, doing all the acrobatics you do on land, on the water surface. You should be proficient enough to fight on water just like you do on land.
Wind chakra is a highly offensive element. Its mostly used to blast or cut people or things. So, you have to imagine your wind chakra like a knife and cut through the leaf cleanly right through the middle. Until you can do that, its not over. Same for the rock. Cut straight through the middle. Got all of it?"
"Yup! But this all stuff I can do on my own? What about you?"
"Meet up with my contacts, then get you some wind justu scrolls. You have two weeks kid before I come back. There is a town close by. Northwards. You can stay the night there. Or sleep in the forest. Whatever. See you in two weeks kid."
Two weeks later
Jiraiya returned to the same clearing where he had last seen Naruto. And sure enough, as he thought, Naruto was practicing his one-handed Rasengan.
"I take it you are done with my tasks then?"
"GAH!" BAM!
"Don't jump on me like that you damn geezer. Stuff like that takes concentration!"
'It's why I did it gaki!' Jiraiya mentally laughed.\
"Just answer the damn question kid."
"Yes, I did. I can even show you."
And Naruto promptly cut a leaf and a rock with barely any effort.
"Good. You got shadow clones out now?"
"Training one-handed rasengan."
"Fine. We are sparring on the water. Let's test your chakra control. You practiced any taijutsu in between?"
"Of course, I did. More like physical training to gather up raw strength, but still yeah. Don't expect any fancy kicks and punches."
"Ha! No, I won't. I got scrolls for that too. I just want to see your level."
"Sounds all right. Let's go!"
30 minutes later
"AAAHHH!"
"Shout all you want; you've got nothing on me kid!"
"WE WILL SEE! SHADOW CLONES! ASSEMBLE!"
"YO!"
"Uh oh…time to pull out the big guns huh? Come at me, you snot-nosed brats!"
"WE WILL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS!"
"Ninpou: Hari Jizou!"
POOF!
And just like that all the shadow clones disappeared.
"BASTARD!"
"Okay, okay stop. I got an idea of where you are now. Let's go to that town and grab some grub. I am starving. We will talk about your progress later."
2 hours later in a nondescript hotel room
"Chunin"
"What?"
"You are as strong as an average Chunin. But your stamina is an asset, so you are probably low Tokubetsu Jonin."
"…. Wow. Okay, where do the others stand then?"
"Except for that Sakura and blonde chick, all of you are at least Chunin level and only Sasuke is on the same level as you."
"… Take that bitches! Who's the strongest around now huh?! I AM!"
"Cool your jets! Now here, take this bag."
"Woah. That's a ton of scrolls. Are all of these wind jutsus?"
"With some water and earth ones. And some taijutsu scrolls. You will be doing these for the rest of the year."
"WHAT! But…. but…. that's too long!"
"You need to master them one hundred percent Naruto. That means controlling the power of jutsu like they were your own body parts."
"Yeah okay, that makes more sense."
"You will also learn a bit about strategizing in different kinds of missions. Once you are proficient enough, I might even send you out on a few personal espionage missions of mine."
"FOR REAL?! FUCK YES!"
"SIT! Now, I will be sending you to Mt. Myoboku, where you can train in peace. You will complete all of this in a year. Then you will train with the toads for 6 months. And then we will do a test. There is something else you have to do while training which I will explain tomorrow. If you are strong enough by the end of your one year, you will go on your first mission. We will see what happens from there. Understood?"
"Yep."
"Good, now get some sleep."
