Here's the next chapter! I want to try to update the story once a week, but to do that I need tributes! All the info's on my account, but I will post the submission form at the bottom of this chapter too. This chapter is pretty short too, but if they're just prologue chapters I'm going to keep them pretty short. The chapter's will get longer as we introduce the tributes.
Juline Greener, though from District 6, had spent days, months, even years studying the Capitol. Her most recent trip to the Capitol had happened when her aunt Alma Coin in 13 had invaded it. Juline joined their ranks immediately.
And now, finally she was at a conclusion. After so long studying the Capitol, Juline figured out that the Capitolites weren't like the Districts in any sort of way. She had been hoping to find at least a few similarities between the district and the Capitol, she was able to find almost nothing. How was it possible that you could be part of the same species but be so different?
Before the revolution, the Capitol did things for entertainment and comfort. They had no reason to do things for more than that. The districts did things for freedom. All they wanted was to be free from the Capitol. Though the difference was very likely in upbringing, the Capitol, Juline knew, didn't even care for their family members. They only cared for themselves. And the districts cared. They cared about more than themselves. And the Capitol didn't.
And that was why Juline knew the war wasn't truly over. It would never be over until they were gone. They were selfish and awful people. If there was a choir with one bad singer, the bad singer could ruin the entire song. The world wouldn't be a good place again until they were gone, just like the song wouldn't be good until the bad singer was gone. And continuing the games was a perfect way to get rid of the Capitolites. It was fair, after all they had put the Districts through anyway.
There was an abrupt knock at the door. Juline quickly checked her intricate updo in the mirror hanging near the door to make sure it was perfect and slowly opened the door. She'd been hoping for this visit ever since she'd heard that the Games were happening again. It was the only way into the Games. The only way to fix it all. The only way to figure out the real secret behind the Capitol. Juline knew there was one; there had to be more than just upbringing that caused the Capitolites act and look so different from the districts.
And sure enough, just who Juline had hoped for stood at the door- a lady with straight gray hair and pale skin. Her aunt, Alma Coin. Juline immediately felt a flash of anger- but she pushed it down. Alma wasn't here to hurt her this time. She was hopefully here to let Juline help with the Games.
"Juline." Alma said. She automatically extended a hand. Juline looked at it but didn't shake it. Instead, she took a step backwards and opened the door wide, inviting her aunt in.
Alma walked in stiffly and took a seat on Juline's couch. Juline noticed she looked worried. What was there for her to worry about? She already knew Juline would take the job, if it was offered. Juline had much more to worry about.
Once Alma crossed her ankles and set her hands neatly on her lap, much to the annoyance of Juline, she began. "As you know, the Games are beginning in a week. The work is nearly done, but I realize that there is more to go into the games than just preparation. The actual games will require more work than the work beforehand. And with Snow's trial and other work being president, I require a second in command. The duties of the second in command include taking over all my duties, including the Games, and making sure the games don't end if anything were to happen to me, particularly during the games. It also means when I am busy you will do any extra work needed done, especially taking over the Games. I would like to offer you this job."
Juline gulped. She was more like her aunt than anyone else, which was probably why they clashed so badly, but she wasn't just like her. It seemed Coin could erase all emotions from her face, all reaction to anything. Juline wasn't quite to that level. Both Coin and Juline noticed her reaction and Coin looked towards Juline disapprovingly. Immediately Juline had a flashback of the last time she'd been with Coin; right after volunteering to invade the Capitol.
Alma shot an icy glare at Juline. "What are you doing here girl?" She asked softly.
Juline straightened her back and lifted her chin, meeting her aunt's gaze. "I'm here to help you. Heaven knows thirteen's not got much of an army. You're using more people not from your district in the army than you are from your own district. Admit it. You need me."
"Of course I don't need you. The army we have now is enough. We don't need any curious girls who aren't even here to fight in the army." This was who Coin really was. She gave off the impression she was a good leader, listened to everyone and cared, but truly she was power hungry and awful.
"Of course I want to fight. I'd kill Snow myself if it were possible, but it seems like the Mockingjay's got dibs on that. And it doesn't matter." Juline said calmly. "I don't need your approval for joining the army. In fact, I've already joined. It's too late. Goodbye, Alma." Juline turned around swiftly and walked away, leaving her aunt gaping and blinking quickly.
But this time was different. Alma wasn't trying to stop her, she actually wanted her help for a change. She needed her help. So there was only one thing to say.
"I accept."
So there you have it! So it looks like Juline's going to be helping out in the games! What did you think of her? Any thought on the chapter? Anyway, here's the submission form:
