Hello lovelies. Sorry I haven't updated. My mother-in-law passed away and between the family and the services, my daughter's schooling, it's been a rough week. But I have a new chapter for you. The names are picked. Let's see what happens.
Shocking News and Triwizard Blues
Gossip spreads like wildfire throughout Hogwarts. You can't escape conversations of the tournament, the other schools, or the handsome and mysterious new Professor. And no, it's not Moody.
"I'm so nervous and I didn't even enter!" said Pansy, as she along with Daphne and Emerald made their way down to the Great Hall for dinner.
"I feel like I'm going to be sick," Emerald said looking at the ground.
"Oh Emers it'll be fine. He'll be fine!" said Daphne wrapping her arm around Emerald's shoulders.
"Daphne, I just know it'll pick him. I know, and you know my instincts are NEVER wrong." Emerald said as she sat down with the others at their table. She looked up and saw Cedric looking at her. He waved and she smiled at him sadly. He looked back at her reading her expression and his expression told her not to worry. The food appeared and everyone started eating. She couldn't eat. Every time she would look at the food her stomach had other plans other than eating. So she just sipped on pumpkin juice.
"Ems, you need to eat," whispered Draco from across the table. She just shook her head. "Why not?" he asked confused.
"She's got a bad feeling Drac," Daphne whispered in his ear. He looked at her and she just continued to sip her juice.
"It'll be alright Em. Whatever it is." He told her.
"Besides, there's nothing worse than Moody showing us the Unforgivables." Draco shuddered.
"Actually that didn't bother me so much. I've read about them. Father has told us about them, Moody didn't hurt any students. I don't see anything wrong with that," Emerald said shrugging her shoulders. Draco just looked at her mortified. It would actually have been funny if the subject wasn't so heavy.
"Longbottom did seem put out though. Must've been hard to see the curse that made your parents go crazy." Said Pansy. Everyone just nodded. All of them feeling bad for him but would not admit it out loud.
After everyone finished eating, Professor Dumbledore announced the cup will be making its selections in ten minutes' time. So a few people decided to change their seating. As much as Emerald was feeling negative vibes, she went over to Cedric to sit with him to show her support, in case.
"You ok?" Cedric asked as she sat down.
"No. Cedric, I've got a bad feeling." Emerald whispered. Cedric smiled and took her hand and kissed it.
"No matter the outcome, you're with me. That's all that matters." He kissed her head which in turn she smiled, a little. "There's that smile." He said.
Behind the staff table, a shadow was standing still. Staring out at the student body. His amber eyes scanning and finding the one person that held everything. Even though she didn't know it. 'Even though she knows nothing, she will know everything. She will encompass EVERYTHING'
"Good Evening to all!" came Dumbledore's voice. "Now before the goblet reveals our champions, may I remind you, however dangerous this tournament its, eternal glory along with," he points to a cover which blows off to reveal a wondrous trophy, "this trophy and 1,000 galleons will be the prize for the winner. Now," Dumbledore moves his hand across the Great Hall and the lights slightly dim and the fire in the goblet shines brightly. After a few seconds the blue fire turns to purple. The fire grows and then it shoots out a paper. Dumbledore reaches out and catches the paper as it floats down.
"The first champion the goblet has selected is, Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons."
Everyone clapped and cheered as Fleur got up from the Ravenclaw table and made her way to Dumbledore. She shook his hand and he gestured her towards a room behind the staff table. Everyone quieted down again.
The goblet fire turned purple again and shot out another paper. "The next champion is, from Durmstrang, Viktor Krum!"
Everyone clapped and cheered again for the Bulgarian. He stepped up to Dumbledore and shook his hand and went to the same room Fleur did.
"Emerald you're going to break my hand love," Cedric whispered. Emerald's hold became tighter as the names were read. "It'll be fine." Cedric kissed her hand and she nodded.
The goblet shot out the last paper, "and our Hogwarts champion is, Cedric Diggory!" Dumbledore finished.
All the students cheered and whistled for Cedric. He stood up with Emerald and gave her a small kiss. She smiled, nodded and clapped as he made his way to Dumbledore. He shook his hand and went after Fleur and Viktor.
"Excellent! We have our champions! I trust all of you to keep in mind, these tasks that our champions will face will be trying indeed. But friends can…." Dumbledore didn't get to finish as the fire in the goblet started pulsing again with the purple flame.
"What the…" Professor Snape mumbled. Everyone looked at the goblet like it had gone wonky. The students started murmuring amongst themselves. The goblet shot out another paper. Dumbledore caught it and his eyes went wide. It wasn't often Dumbledore got caught off guard.
"Harry Potter," came as a whisper on his lips. Emerald heard it just fine. She looked for the boy.
"Harry Potter!" shouted Dumbledore louder. Everyone gasped and tried to look for him.
Harry immediately sat down and tried to hide.
"Harry, get up." Whispered Hermione. He wouldn't budge. "Oh come on Harry!" she said louder and pulled him up and shoved him towards the direction of Dumbledore. As he walked everyone was staring at him. Some in disbelief, some confused, others angry. Ron glared at his back, Hermione just looked crestfallen.
"He can't compete!" someone yelled.
"He's not even seventeen yet!" came another shout.
Harry walked up to Dumbledore. Dumbledore showed him the paper and it clearly stated Harry's name. Harry shot his head up in shock and slightly shook his head. Dumbledore gestured to the room towards the back where the others were. Harry started walking and look to see Emerald just staring at him in horror and confusion. The Slytherins were booing his name. As Harry made his way up behind the staff table the teachers were looking at him in the same way as Emerald.
Harry made his way inside the room.
"Harry what are you doing here?" asked Cedric as he walked up to Harry.
"Do, zey need us to come back outz?" asked Fleur.
"No, no and no, absolutely not!" came the voice of Professor McGonagall as the teachers made their way inside the room.
"He's only a boy!" said Professor Sprout.
Dumbledore practically ran up to Harry and grabbed him by the shoulders, "Harry, did you put your name in?"
"No sir!" Harry said shocked as Dumbledore practically had a death grip on him.
"Are you sure!?"
"Positive sir, I swear!" Harry said as Dumbledore let him go.
"Well of course he is lying!" said Madame Maxime as she stood next to Fleur.
"What's going on?" asked Cedric.
"Potter's name was chosen from the goblet," sighed McGonagall.
"Impossible, Harry?" Cedric said shocked.
"I didn't put my name in! I will take Veritaserum if I have to!" Harry said loudly.
Dumbledore turned to Mr. Crouch, "Barty, I leave it to you." He said sighing.
Mr. Crouch just looked at Harry. "The goblet institutes a binding magical contract. The only way out is to challenge the cup. But I believe Mr. Potter is no-where skilled enough to beat the cup."
"What happens if I lose?" asked Harry to Mr. Crouch.
"You will forfeit your magic." Mr. Crouch replied. Harry paled at the answer.
"As of tonight, you are a Triwizard Champion Mr. Potter." Mr. Crouch said. Everyone turned to look at him and all Harry could do was stare back.
"Can you believe Potter? I bet he did it you know. I bet he had help from that Granger girl. She's smart."
That's pretty much all you could hear throughout the castle. Most of the students were upset at Harry. Especially his own house aside from a couple of people. It's amazing how people can turn on you in a moment of jealousy or not understanding the situation at hand. Most thought it was unfair to Cedric seeing how he was chosen as the original Hogwarts champion so naturally the students sided with Cedric. There were a few, a spare few who had Harry's back no matter what. It was a true test of friendship.
"Honestly Harry, it happened. There's nothing you could've done. All we can do is help you through this the best we can." Hermione told him one day. Harry and Hermione were sitting out by the lake under a willow tree. They were studying for a Charms test they were to take the following day. With everyone staring at him and whispering behind his back, they thought it a good idea to just get outside seeing the weather was fresh, but it was cooperating.
"Hermione, you don't have the whole school whispering behind your back at every turn in the castle." He replied sadly.
"Ha! They think I helped you. But we know the truth. You'll get through this Harry."
"Um excuse me?" came a voice from behind the tree. Harry and Hermione turned around to find a girl with long blonde hair and blue robes. Ravenclaw.
'It's that girl!' thought Harry. "Yes?" he asked.
"Harry, I just wanted to say that I believe you. You don't seem the type to do what everyone is saying. I don't believe you put your name in the Goblet of Fire." Said the girl with a smile.
"Well thank you…." Harry didn't know her name.
"Luna. Luna Lovegood, third year. I'll see you around Harry." She turned to leave, "Hermione," she nodded and walked away.
Hermione turned back around to find Harry staring off after the girl. She smirked. "A lot of people call her Loony Lovegood. She's nice, but a bit strange."
"That's rude. I like her." Harry mumbled.
"If only you knew how many bullies I've had to deal with for her," came a voice. The duo turned around to see Emerald come up.
"Hi Emers!" they both said.
"Most of the bullies believe it or not, are from her own house. Do you know they hide her things?" Emerald asked as she sat down next to Harry.
"That's horrible. Poor Luna." Hermione said shaking her head.
"I thought you weren't going to talk to me anymore," said Harry looking at his Charms book.
"Now what gave you that idea?" asked Emerald taking out her Charms book as well.
"Well with Cedric and all, I just thought…" Harry mumbled.
"Harry James Potter. Get this through your thick head right now, I'm your friend." She turned and grabbed his shoulders and pulled him to look at her. "I WILL ALWAYS be your friend. No matter the house I'm in, no matter who MY OTHER friends are, no matter the situation we're in, no matter who my family is or who I'm dating, I'LL ALWAYS be your friend. I'll always have your back." she never looked away from him. He started tearing up and nodded. Hermione teared up as well but wiped her eyes with her sleeve before any tears fell.
"Now, Herms, I need help with this stupid wand waving. What have you got?" asked Emerald as she flipped to the chapter they were going over. "Cedric has Quidditch practice so he can't help." Hermione laughed and the group starting working away.
On the other side of the lake up in a tree sat a figure looking at the group. For being faraway he had very good eyesight. He watched as Emerald laughed and studied with her friends. He KNEW he came at the right time, because he was going to do everything in his power to make sure she never loses that smile, that light that surrounds her very being. Until he can make himself known, he will bide his time. Patiently.
Well there you have it. I'm sorry it's short. But the drawing of names needed to happen. With the first task coming up, Harry stresses more. His dreams and Emeralds get more intense. There will be more Draco and Hermione next chapter as well. Until then lovelies, stay safe.
