"Ok that's two beers, a scotch on the rocks and one water. Is there anything else I can get you?" Kate asked placing the last drink on the table
"Yeah how about you join us for a drink" the guy who ordered the drinks smirked
"Your cute but I'm working"
"Doesn't your brother in law own this place or something, come have one drink with us"
"Maybe another time" she answered moving to walk away
"Maybe I'll meet you in the side alley after your shift then" he grinned smacking her backside,
holding the tray against her chest Kate froze while looking across at Mike who was about to jump the bar.
Holding her hand up she motioned to him she had it handled, while turning to face the group of men she snickered a little
"Put your hands on me again and you'll regret working into this bar"
"Excuse me?" He huffed arising to stand towering over her
"I may be working at a bar as a waitress but I will not tolerate being sexualised by the likes of you"
"And what are you gonna do about it"
"Ask you to politely leave before I do something that will embarrass you in front of your mates"
"You wouldn't have it in you" he poked her in the shoulder,
looking down at where he'd poked her Kate lifted her head back up with a smirk.
Grabbing him by the shoulder she took her knee to his crotch leaving him doubled over in pain
"I suggest you find somewhere else to drink" she turned around stalking over to the bar.
"Katie, keep treating customers like that and I'll go out of business" Mike shook his head when she placed her tray on the bar top
"I did warn him"
"Mm-hmm, next time get Frank to sort it out please" he motioned to the security guard
"The day I need Frank to help me is the day you know will never come" she shook her head moving around the bar and through the doors to the back area.
Entering Mike's office Kate slumped against the desk taking in a deep breath
"Impressive" a voice startled her from the doorway
"What?" she brushed the loose hair from her face looking up to meet the persons eye
"I've never seen anyone handle Calvin and his mates the way you just did" Dylan moved into the office
"He's just a puppy dog, I can handle men like him"
"Point is you shouldn't have too"
"And what you're going to be my protector?"
"You don't need one"
"No I don't so you can go now" she shook her head when he stepped in front of her
"I'm not here to protect you Kate, I'm…"
"I should get back to work" she went to slip past him but he grabbed her wrist pulling her back
"Don't… don't leave just yet"
"I get paid to work not hang around in the office all day"
"Please.. just a few minutes longer?" he pulled her arm so she was pinned against the desk
"What are…"
"I'm doing what I should have doe last night" he reached up brushing his hand across her cheek and into her hair, leaning his head down to her level Dylan sensed the hesitation in her eyes "Your hesitant…"
"I just…" she sighed resting her hands against his chest
"Tell me"
"Mike was good enough to offer me a job so getting involved with his best friend it's not…"
"You weren't saying that three months ago"
"I didn't know who you were three months ago"
"If we were great three months ago, shouldn't we be given the chance to see where this could go?" he lowered his head the rest of the way brushing his lips against hers she whimpered softly,
her hands balling the fabric of his shirt in her fists.
Deepening the kiss Dylan moved his hands down her back,
across her backside to her thigh hoisting her up onto the desk he grinned against her lips when she moaned at the feel of his erection pushing against her stomach
"We shouldn't…" she struggled between the kiss
"At.. least not… here"
"No I mean…" she pulled back taking a deep breath "at least not for a week…" she looked at him awkwardly
"Oh… Oh!" he struggled to catch his breath "Sorry…"
"It's not exactly something woman advertise"
"I get it, three younger sisters" he moved back helping her off the desk
"So um…"
"About that…" he motioned to the desk "can we just do a re-do, like an um…"
"Are you asking me out on a date?" she grinned
"Hey Katie, we got a big order need you to serve table… sorry am I interrupting" Mike stood in the doorway
"No it's fine, we were finished here" Dylan cleared his throat "I'll just…"
"Can you give us a minute Mikey?" Kate asked hopeful
"Two, then I need you out front" he nodded making his way back out front,
"Listen, I knock off at seven but have to help with the stock intake until seven-thirty, if you're still interested in that date" she smiled moving past him
"Tonight?" he turned watching her
"Your not chickening out are you?"
"Me chickening out? As if, I'll meet you out front at seven thirty-one" he winked watching her leave with the shake of her head,
when he knew she was out of eyesight he pumped his fist in the air pausing when he got a strange look off the chef
"Got a new job" he cleared his throat before making a quick exit out the back.
Walking behind the bar after getting back to work Kate sighed when she felt Mike's eyes on her
"Everything okay Boss?" she wiped down the bar top with the cloth
"Are you sure getting involved with Dylan is a good idea?"
"Are you asking as a concerned brother-in-law or my Boss?"
"You don't know Dylan the way do Kate, he's not.."
"Good for me? I think I can figure that out for myself thanks"
"Kate…"
"I got work to do" she moved down the bar to a new arriving customer.
"What can I get for you?" she stopped across from him
"You are one hard woman to track down Katie" he lifted his head
"Ryan?"
"In the flesh"
"How did you find me?" she stepped back slightly
"I'm still friends with your Dad on Facebook he posted a family picture last weekend"
"Right…"
"You um.. you look good"
"Yeah well starting fresh will do that to you" she smiled awkwardly
"Yeah" he laughed softly
"Why are you here Ryan.."
"The house in Sydney, I've been offered a job in Shanghai and…"
"You need your half of the money from the house sale"
"I know you haven't put it on the market yet but I was hoping we could put a rush on it"
"So let me get this straight.." she threw the cloth over her shoulder "you tracked me down in Cairns not to plea your case or ask for forgiveness but to get me to sell the house we brought together when we first got married?"
"Uh.. yes" he bit his lip
"Get out"
"But…"
"Just get the hell out!" she yelled, most of the patrons turning to watch the commotion
"Katie everything okay?" Mike stepped over
"I'm taking my break" she huffed throwing the cloth on the bar top
"Will you just let me explain" Ryan arose to stand
"Get lost Ryan",
"I think you should leave Ryan" Mike intervened
"Just tell her if she changes her mind about talking I'm staying at the hotel in the city" he sighed
"I'll let her know" he nodded
"Thanks" Ryan answered exiting the pub.
