A/N: Here's the next part. Enjoy and dont be afraid to let me know what you think.
Bucky POV:
I walked towards Steve as the members of our group turned into ash and dust at our feet. I waited for my turn, certain that it was coming until it just stopped.
"Bucky," Steve called as I turned to him.
"What happened?" I asked and he fell to his knees.
"We lost." Thor whispered as he bent to pick up his axe.
"How did we lose?" I asked as the talking raccoon walked up towards us.
"We weren't strong enough." He said and it looked at him.
"Steve, say something." I said and he looked up at me.
"Lily." He got up and started running towards Wakanda.
I looked at the group around us and they nodded.
"Go Bucky." Bruce said as he walked up to Thor.
I took off in the direction Steve had run towards, passing crying and confused faces along the way.
"Steve stop!" I yelled as he ran towards the jet.
"No, I have to get back to the compound. They're alone, Bucky." He started getting things prepped to go and I grabbed his hand.
"Stop." He whirled around, ready to punch me as Nat quickly climbed on board.
"Boys just stop. I'll get you there. But both of you need to realize that a lot of people just lost their loved ones. Hell the king and his sister are gone. This place is a mess, everyone is lost and I know you need to get back to Lily Steve, but we need to wait a second. We need to regroup."
He ripped his hand from mine and stormed over to her. "Nat, I need to go right now. You don't understand I have to get back to her. What if she's….what if this happened to her." He crumbled at my feet as his words finally sank in.
"Cora...what if it's Cora too." I looked down at Steve who looked up at me.
"Okay listen I'm going to go let Bruce know what's going on. Just let me get him and we can go. I promise just give me a second."
She took off down the ramp and I collapsed into one of the chairs.
Steve looked up at me and laughed. "Cora sat there yesterday. She had the same expression on her face too." He looked back down and I laughed.
"She's always so lost in thought."
"Ha yeah it's kinda creepy sometimes."
"Creepy?" I asked and he nodded.
"She probably didn't have time to tell you. But it's something going on with them. Lily gets it too sometimes. It's like they change, become lifeless almost."
I sat up and stared at him. "Lifeless? Like I was?" I asked and he stared at me.
"Yeah exactly like that."
"Steve how often-"
"Okay guys let's go." Nat said as she climbed on with Bruce, Rocket, and Rhodey.
I didn't get a chance to ask Steve what I needed to know, but I had a feeling I wasn't going to like the answer once I did.
"LILY!" Steve screamed as he ran into the compound. I followed as he ran towards a hall and slipped into a room.
"Lily?" He called as he looked everywhere around the room. I walked in and immediately recognized the clothes on the chair as the last ones I saw Cora wearing before she left.
"They were here?" I asked and he nodded.
"I don't know where they could be. Last time I saw them they were both sleeping right there." He asked, panic in his eyes.
"Would they have left?" I asked, hoping that they might have just gone out and were fine.
He shook his head. "Lily said she wouldn't but she never listens. We should check the garage, see if anything is missing."
We started walking towards the garage when Nat walked up to Steve and shook her head.
"Steve one of the cars is gone and F.R.I.D.A.Y registered them leaving this morning."
"They didn't leave a note or anything?" He looked at everyone around him.
They all shook their heads as Steve turned to me. "We need to go out there. Maybe they're lost in the chaos." He took off towards the garage and Nat grabbed my arm.
"Look, I have a bad feeling about this. And i don't know if you're just suppressing what's going on or what, but you need to get him back here in one piece okay." I stared at her, barely registering what she was saying before I nodded and ran after Steve.
He was already in the first car in the line, waiting for me. I quickly climbed in and he took off.
The chaos we found was something out of a horror movie. People were crying and screaming everywhere. The confusion was unbearable as people asked where their loved ones were or what had happened. We drove for what seemed like hours until we finally saw it.
"There," Steve said when he noticed a car parked in front of a coffee shop. He parked right next to it and quickly got out.
"This is Tony's car. I know it. I just have to-"He paused and looked at the door to the shop. I turned to see what he was looking at and almost stopped breathing. A purse was laying on the ground just beside the wall. I looked at Steve, but he was already walking towards it. I tried to grab it out of his hands, but he was already digging inside of it in search of something to confirm what I didn't want to know. Once he found it he fell to the ground, his head in his hands.
I stumbled away towards the car, grabbing onto the driver's side to steady myself and I saw it. There on the cupholder was a single wallet, and a picture with my girls smiling face looking up at me.
We tried to fix it. We got help from some chick who was basically a glowing goddess. But in the end it didn't matter. Thanos had won and we had lost. Instead of trying to make something out of what was left Steve and I just slipped away. I spent most of my time just punching whatever pissed me off and Steve just stopped. He couldn't wrap his head around losing Lily and Sam. It was killing him and nothing I did helped. Nat would constantly tell me to help him out but then I would remind her that she wasn't really doing anything for Clint which would result in a fist fight. I usually walked away with something broken and my anger slightly satisfied. At night I would dream about Cora. I would dream about what could have been, about what we should have had and what I would do if I ever got her back.
"This has to stop." Natasha said as she walked into my room, uninvited.
"Good morning to you too." I said as I sat up and reached for my arm.
"I know you're in pain, both of you are, but you need to stop this. I don't want to fight with you or Steve anymore. I want you guys, no I need you guys to help me. I'm drowning too Bucky, and watching Steve fall apart." She looked down and I sighed.
"I don't know how to help him Nat. Honestly I have no idea, because I don't know how to help myself. Everyday that she's gone," I paused then looked back up at her, "We didn't have much time but knowing she was safe and that I would be with her again kept me going. We were so close, so damn close. I was going to follow her. I was done with Wakanda after she left and I was going to come back here. I wanted to start a life with her, but Thanos took that away from me. And I know Steve feels the same way, but the difference is he had so much time with Lily. He was going to marry her Nat. He had a ring and a plan. But Thanos took all of that away and now." I stopped and she put her hand on my arm.
"I just want my friend to be okay."
"Then we need to figure out a way to bring them back because that's the only way he's going to be okay."
She nodded then quickly left my room. I put my head in my hands and sighed.
"Cora," I whispered before getting up to start another pointless day.
Before I knew it 5 years were gone and suddenly we had a miracle. A chance in a lifetime to get them back and that alone seemed to bring Steve back to us. It took a lot and it was more than any of us realized at first. The plan was simple. Go back in time to certain key points, get the stones then wish everyone back. It sure seemed simple, but of course between Tony, Steve, that ant dude and myself we managed to fuck our part of the plan up just a little bit. But after some careful time manipulation we were finally able to pull it off. What we didn't count on was losing Natasha. Her death was something none of us could have seen coming, but Rocket told us that's what happened when Thanos went to get the soul stone last time. He left with Gamora and came back without her. Clint was broken and felt like he had let her down. I could sympathize completely with him at that moment. It seemed like no matter what we did someone was going to lose. Knowing that Nat would kill us if we didn't keep going with the plan we put the stones inside a glove that Tony created and agreed that Bruce would be the one to bring everyone back. We all watched as Bruce gripped his arm, gamma radiation flowing through it, burning it up and down. And then he snapped his fingers.
Cora POV:
I gasped, the air rushing quickly inside my lungs. I leaned over from the intensity of it and tried to catch my breath. I looked up and saw Lily doing the same thing across from me. I looked around confused. "Where...are...we?" I gasped, my throat hurting a bit.
"Cora, what happened? I don't...oh my god your hand." She ran at me and grabbed my hand in hers.
The memory came back, my hand disintegrating before my eyes and people around me doing the same. As Lily did the same in front of me.
"Lily are you okay? What happened? Your hand was doing it too."
Tears came to her eyes and she looked down. "Cora you fell apart right in front of me. You were gone, just gone and that's all I remember."
"What happened to us?" I looked around trying to figure out where we were.
"We need to get back to the compound. We need to make sure they're okay." She said as she looked around for something.
"What?"
"My purse, it's not here."
I looked towards the spot I'd parked the car just seconds ago. "Um the car is gone too."
She screamed in frustration before grabbing my hand and trying the handle of the coffee shop. The door didn't budge and we noticed it was dark inside. It looked almost abandoned, like no one had even been there in years. But that couldn't be right, it was open when we pulled up. I looked at her and she looked around some more.
We finally took in our surroundings as the ground shook beneath our feet.
"Holy shit what was that?" I asked and she looked towards the direction we both knew the compound was. The sky had gotten considerably darker in that direction.
"Oh my god." She whispered, her hand finding mine again.
"We need to find out what's going on, Lily lets go see if there's somewhere we can use a phone."
She nodded and we crossed the street to a small convenience store that looked to be the only open thing in the area.
The owner stared at us as we walked in and Lily asked if we could borrow the phone. He nodded then led us to the small office and told us to make it quick. Lily immediately started punching in numbers before hanging up then starting again. After five of these she slammed the phone down in frustration.
"Cora no one is answering, not Steve or Nat or Pepper even. No one is answering," She started crying and I pulled her into my arms.
"It's okay we will figure it out." I smiled at her then hugged her tighter. We stood there until something on the wall managed to catch my eye.
"Hey Lily um what's today?"
"April 23rd 2018, why?" She asked as I pointed to the calendar behind her.
She looked at the date and gasped. "How in the hell is it April 26th of 2023!"
I shook my head and sunk to the floor. "Five years? Lily, we were gone for five years?"
She looked down at me, shaking her head and crying. "There's no way. We couldn't have, Cora how?"
We sat there until the owner came to check on us and found two crying women on his floor.
"You both need to go now."
We nodded and stood, but Lily grabbed his arm. "Sir what happened? We don't know, has it been five years?"
The man looked at her then looked at me before gasping. "You're one of the vanished?"
"Vanished?" I asked and he nodded.
"They're coming back everywhere. Five years ago you all just disappeared. We didn't know until later what had happened, but you've been gone for five years. I am so sorry." He took one of our hands in each of his. "Do you have somewhere you need to be?" He asked and we nodded.
"There's a compound not super far from here, we need to get back there." I said and he gasped.
"You can't go there."
"Why?" Lily asked and he let us go, quickly making his way to the small television behind his counter.
The news was reporting an explosion at the facility known as avengers compound. Reporters didn't want to get close, but it was being reported that something big was happening there. We watched the news helplessly, just waiting to see if maybe they would be able to get a picture of the scene but we knew it probably wouldn't happen. Suddenly Lily gasped beside me.
"Happy?" She said before she ran back to the office.
The owner nodded to me and I went to join her.
"Happy?"
"We can call Happy or stark industries. Maybe they can get him a message and he can get it to Steve." She was already dialing and smiled when someone picked up.
"Hi, yes my name is Lily Jensen and I'm looking for Happy Hogan. Yes I understand I can't be seen without an appointment, but I'm a friend of Pepper Potts. Please I just need a minute to talk to him," She looked up at me, a brilliant smile lighting up her face, "Thank you."
"Lily?" I asked as she put her hand over the phone.
"They're getting me to him. Apparently Pepper put my name on a list so they finally can help me. It's going to be okay Cora." She smiled before going back to her call.
"Happy? Hi, I'm not sure if...Uh yeah we don't know how but we're back. Cora is with me...we're uh not far from the compound...no I saw it...our car is gone and my purse...hold on," She looked at the wall.
"What's up?"
"He needs an address, he can send a car if he has a way to, AH HA!"
She went back to her call and gave Happy the information before finally hanging up.
"He's sending a car or something to get us. He wants us to go to the hospital to get checked out. I told him it's unnecessary, but he's pretty insistent." She said before getting up and walking towards the television we had been watching.
"Just like that?" I asked, following her.
"Pepper put both our names on a list five years ago just in case we needed her when Steve left, he told me to call her if I needed help before he left for Wakanda."
"I remember, but how do they still have that?"
She smiled. "Pepper never gave up on us. She left it there just in case we came back some day."
"When did you get so close to Pepper?"
"Well being Steve's girlfriend did come with some perks and Pepper likes to go behind Tony's back when she thinks he's being an idiot."
I smiled, "So someone is coming."
"Yeah but we can't go to the compound. Happy says there's a fight going on. He's not sure what exactly but Pepper took off in some kind of portal a couple minutes ago. Whatever that means."
I laughed. "With those guys it could mean anything."
We didn't have to wait long before a man showed up with a phone and told us he was there to take us in. We got in the back and Lily immediately called the last number on the phone.
"Happy? Yeah we're okay...where are we going?"
They talked for a few minutes as the car drove down the street. I stared out the window, taking in all the destruction and chaos around me. It didn't look like the town it had been before, it looked almost post-apocalyptic.
"I finally convinced Happy that we don't need a hospital." Lily said as she laughed.
"You did?"
"Yeah so we're going to a hotel not far from here. Happy has it all arranged."
I nodded and went back to watching the scene around me.
"So it's probably a good thing I didn't listen to Steve." She said and I turned to face her.
"What?"
"If we had been at the compound we would be in the middle of all that right now." She said and I gasped.
"Lily, do you remember why we left the compound?" I asked as her hands flew down to her abdomen.
"Oh shit," She quickly snatched back up the phone and called Happy back. We were going to need that hospital visit after all.
"Okay you're both free to go, but I need you to take it easy Lilja. I don't know what this vanishing did to anyone so just as a precaution try to take it easy. A nurse will be in to discharge you momentarily." The doctor said as he handed Lily a prescription for prenatals.
"Thank you doctor." I said as Lily stared at the wall. He nodded to me before leaving the room.
"Lily?" I asked, putting my hand on her shoulder.
She turned to me, tears in the corners of her eyes. "I'm having a baby Cora. We've been gone five years, and I'm having a baby I got pregnant with five years ago."
"Hey, hey it's okay. It's going to be alright." I pulled her into my arms and she cried.
"What if something isn't right?"
"No you heard the doctor, they said it could be fine. I have a feeling it's going to be just fine. You saw the ultrasound, everything looked completely normal."
"Cora, I'm scared."
I pulled back and looked her in the eye, "I have you. You are going to be alright I promise."
She smiled at me and I put my hand over her flat stomach. "I will keep both of you safe always. You're my sister Lilja and I will always be here for you, both of you."
She cried before hugging me tightly.
"Thank you Cora."
The nurse came and quickly got us discharged, the ER was in total chaos, but thanks to Happy's connections we were able to get in rather quickly. The drive to the hotel was silent, Lily had her head on my shoulder, sleeping and my head was somewhere else. My mind was running a mile a minute trying to process everything that was going on.
"Miss," The driver said, pulling me out of my thoughts, "we're here."
I nodded and gently woke Lily. Together we made our way into the hotel and after a very awkward check in we finally managed to make it up to our room.
"I'm going to lay down for a while Cora." Lily said and I nodded. I barely registered what she was saying. My thoughts were still going crazy and I just wanted to be alone for a minute. She was out the second her head hit the pillow and I made my way to the balcony. I didn't even notice the view as I sat on one of the chairs beside the door. I took a deep breath and gave myself fully over to my thoughts.
