CHAPTER 3:

For the First Time in Forever

Back to the story.

Anna and Elsa were still on stage facing the audience.

"Okay," Elsa said to the audience, "the next number is the song from back in my coronation."

"That's right," agreed Anna. "And now, introducing the most famous country music duo ever, Sugarland!"

The audience cheered and applauded when Sugarland (Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush) entered the stage.

"Thank you very much!" Jennifer said to the audience with a smile.

"Glad you could make it tonight, guys," Anna said.

"We are, too," said Jennifer.

"Oh, by the way, for the first time in forever, we're here in the Grand Ole Opry as hosts of this concert," Elsa said.

"You took the words right out of my mouth, Elsa," said Anna.

"Did I?" Elsa asked.

"Yes you did," Anna replied, then she and her sister gave each other a good laugh.

"Jennifer, Kristian, are you ready for some singing?" Elsa asked.

"We are," Kristian answered.

"Great!" exclaimed Elsa.

Anna held the microphone and said to the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, here's Sugarland and my sister Elsa singing the next number!"

The audience applauded, the music started playing, and Sugarland started to sing.

For the First Time in Forever

Sung by Sugarland and Elsa

(Jennifer)

The window is open, so's that door

I didn't know they did that anymore

Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates?

For years I've roamed these empty halls

Why have a ballroom with no balls?

Finally, they're opening up the gates!

There'll be actual real live people

It'll be totally strange

Wow, am I so ready for this change?

(Jennifer and Kristian)

'Cause for the first time in forever

There'll be music, there'll be light

For the first time in forever

I'll be dancing through the night

Don't know if I'm elated or gassy

But I'm somewhere in that zone

'Cause for the first time in forever

I won't be alone

(Elsa)

Wow! You sing very bueautifully!

(Jennifer)

Why, thank you, your majesty!

(Elsa)

Just call me Elsa.

(Jennifer)

Okay, Elsa.

Tonight, imagine me gown and all

Fetchingly draped against the wall

The picture of sophisticated grace

I suddenly see him standing there

A beautiful stranger, tall and fair

I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face...!

But then we laugh and talk all evening

Which is totally bizarre

Nothing like the life I've led so far

(Jennifer and Kristian)

For the first time in forever

There'll be magic, there'll be fun

For the first time in forever

I could be noticed by someone

And I know it is totally crazy

To dream I'd find romance

But for the first time in forever

At least I've got a chance

(Jennifer)

Take a verse, Elsa!

(Elsa)

All right!

Don't let them in, don't let them see

Be the good girl you always have to be

Conceal, don't feel, put on a show

Make one wrong move and everyone will know

But it's only for today

(Jennifer)

It's only for today

(Elsa)

It's agony to wait

(Jennifer)

It's agony to wait

(Elsa)

Tell the guards to open up the gate!

(Jennifer)

The gate!

(Jennifer and Kristian)

For the first time in forever

(Elsa)

Don't let them in, don't let them see

(Jennifer and Kristian)

I'm getting what I'm dreaming of

(Elsa)

Be the good girl you always have to be

(Jennifer and Kristian)

A chance to change my lonely world

(Elsa)

Conceal

(Jennifer and Kristian)

A chance to find true love

(Elsa)

Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

(Jennifer and Kristian)

I know it all ends tomorrow

So it has to be today

'Cause for the first time in forever

For the first time in forever

Nothing's in my way!

The next number ended, and the audience cheered once more. Sugarland and Elsa took a bow.

"Thank you very much!" Elsa said.

"Give it up for my sister Elsa and Sugarland!" Anna shouted, then the audience applauded again.

"Thanks for the song, Elsa," Jennifer said.

"Thank you for letting me sing my part of the song," said Elsa.

"It's been fun, but I think Jennifer and I gotta go backstage," Kristian said.

"All right then," said Elsa, "see you later."

"Nice performance," Anna complimented.

"Isn't it, though?" Elsa said. Then she turned to the audience. "Now, everybody, our next number will be coming up soon. So remain seated, stick around, and we'll be right back."
