The Time Warp Machine
The next day, as Taylor made her way inside the school, Chad greeted her with a cheery smile. "Hey Shorty, how's it going down there?" He joked with a laugh."
"I'm not short!" Taylor hissed. "Jesus Crist, is this going to be our new thing? I keep telling you things until you understand? This is the average height for a African American female my age. Do not test me Chad, I know facts."
Chad just smirked at her and laughed. "Ight." He followed Taylor inside, then all the way to Miss. Darbus' homeroom.
Miss. D was balancing a broom on her hand for some reason. She's just weird like that. She does random stuff and gets away with it because it's her thing. She balanced the broom perfectly as everyone came in, stopping by the door first to examine Miss. Darbus. "Please take your seats everyone. But now too far because we'll need them." She put the broom down as some people laugh at her joke.
"So, we still on for this afternoon?" Chad asked Taylor.
"Yeah." Taylor replied as she took her seat right behind him.
"Ok class today I want to talk to you about a surprise!" Miss. D exclaimed. "We are doing a musicale about the creation of East High! Isn't that exciting?" Few people react. "The musicale will show how East High was before it was all the way united. When all the tables were divided and everyone had different things and secret obsessions they didn't tell anyone."
"The Status Quo!" Zeke Baylor exclaimed. He remembers breaking it so he could bake. (Crème Brulee!)
Miss. Darbus nodded. "Bingo Mr. Baylor! And that is what we'll call it! The Status Quo!" She pointed at everyone in the class. All of you will be participating in the musicale."
Chad groaned. "But Miss. D-"
"For a grade." Miss. Darbus interrupted. "I don't want to hear anyone complain." She walked back to her desk. "Kelsi Neilson will compose, Ryan Evans will choreograph-"
"We have to dance?!" Jason shrieked. "Dammit!"
"Yes you have to dance, and please watch your language." She smiled. "And everyone will have to sing too."
"What if you can't sing though?" Martha Cox asked.
Miss. Darbus raised and eyebrow at her. "If you can talk, you can sing." She stood at the front of the classroom. "I don't want to hear anyone complain, whine, sob, or have a nervous breakdown."
"Ryan and I can do the musical all by ourselves!" Sharpay spoke up. "We can do everything that needs to be done Miss. Darbus. Plus, we can perform as well!"
"Thank you Miss. Evans, but I want everyone to participate in the show." Miss. Darbus said. "For a grade!" Everyone who didn't want to be in the musical groaned. "Oh cursed be your children if you don't perform in this show!" Everybody was silent again. Nobody was for sure, but Miss. D did come off as a witch sometimes. So when she threatens people, no one takes their chances.
When the bell rung for the next hour, Chad found Taylor again. "Hey, where's your next class?" He asked her.
"I have Algebra now." Taylor answered. "I don't believe you have Ms. Petosa as a teacher at this hour."
"I don't." Chad said. "Well... see you later Taylor!" Chad exclaimed.
All Taylor did was nod. She made her way down the hall, and saw Zeke and Ryan holding hands. "Hey guys! How's it going?"
"It's our three week anniversary!" Ryan told her as he hugged Zeke.
"Whoa, it's been three weeks?" It doesn't seem that long ago when Zeke was a clumsy guy who wasn't sure of his sexuality. Now, Zeke and Ryan are together... so together everyone knows it, even the teachers, and it's only been a few weeks. "Well, congrats! I'm so happy for you! I'm sorry I forgot, but on your four week anniversary I'll bring you something! Love you guys."
"We love you too Taylor!" Ryan said as they walked away, still holding hands.
Taylor isn't exactly close to Zeke or Ryan, but she still treats them as if they're her brothers. That's what the whole We're All In This Together message is. Everyone at East High is like a big a big family. Everyone loves each other, even though there are bullies who are mean for no apparent reason, like Daisy. She's mean just because she can be. No one knows with Daisy Simons.
After passing a gross couple who decided to make out in front of the water fountains, Taylor made it to class. In chemistry with Mr. Levy, everyone was working on their projects as he walked around the class and examined each one. He stopped at Daisy's and Harlem's table. "What are you two doing for your project?" He asked them.
"We're d-doing the s-science behind l-levitation." Harlem said to him.
"Yeah, but we're calling it... Levytation!" Daisy added smiling the famous child suck up smile.
"Ah, I see!" Mr. Levy smiled and sat down. "I think that that sounds fantastic! Tell me more."
"They just got suck up points in from Mr. Levy." Chad whispered to Taylor. "I'm only angry because we didn't think of something like Levytation to earn teacher's pet points."
"We have something way better." Taylor told him. "We are going to prove that time warping is possible. We'll call it Warpy."
"The experiment?" Chad asked.
"No, the warp machine is going to be called Warpy." Taylor explained. "We'll call the experiment..." She tapped he chin in thought. "Um, how about we call it..."
"Thee Time Line!" Chad smiled. "How about that?"
"I like it." Taylor replied. "It's new and creative. Let's call it that." She wrote down the name in her notebook, then pulled the tiny time warping machine out her backpack. "Ok, so this is Warpy."
Chad laughed out loud. "That tiny thing is a warp machine?! I thought is was going to be something like a portal he jump through and go to different time periods. But that thing is a warp machine? Haha! How does it work professor?"
Taylor shot him a dirty look, then looked down at Warpy. "This 'tiny' machine is going to make me- us- legends. Do you hear me? We are going to become legends because of my invention!"
Before Chad could reply, the intercom came on. "Attention students, please make your way down to the basement of East High in a orderly fashion." Principal Matsui said. "There is an emergency... and this is not a drill. Teachers, please gather your students and go to the East High basement, this is not a drill."
Everyone in the class looked around and started panicking. "What's going on Mr. Levy?" Chad asked the teacher.
"I'm not sure." Mr. Levy looked outside his classroom and saw a lot of students making their was to the East High basement. "Everyone, please head to the East High basement quickly and quietly. No talking or running."
Daisy obviously didn't listen to Mr. Levy. She ran out the classroom as fast as she could, red ponytail flowing in the wind.
Chad and Taylor walked side by side, fumbling in the crowd of students. Everybody was in a rush, trying to get to the East High basement. "Hey." Chad said to Taylor. "I know a shortcut." He grabbed Taylor by the wrist and led her the opposite direction everyone else was going. "It's just around here..."
Taylor followed Chad down the stairs of a place she's never been before. It was cold, dark, and it smelled a lot like... grilled cheese sandwiches. "What is this place?" Taylor asked him.
"The guys and I sometimes hang out here." Chad said. "If we keep walking, we'll be to the East High basement in no time." They kept walking in complete silence. It seemed like a short walk, but it was a long one. When they turned the corner, Chad looked at Taylor. "How's Warpy?" He noticed Taylor holding the time warping machine close to her chest.
"He's fine." Taylor replied.
Chad shook his head at her with a smile. "You are so-" There was a sling. and a gasp. Taylor looked up and saw there was blood running down Chad's neck.
Taylor screamed and stepped back. "Chad! Omg! Chad!" Her heart sped up as Chad collapsed on the ground, revealing a figure who was behind him holding a knife.
Holy fuck. A knife.
Taylor turned to run, but the figure knocked her over. "Let me go!" Taylor screamed as she got pinned down by the murderer. She tried to kick the person off of her, when she felt a harsh pinch in her stomach. "Ahh!" Taylor cried. She looked down and saw the knife wedged into her stomach, a circle of red spreading across her purple shirt. She felt weak.
The murder stood up and watched. Taylor couldn't move as the circle of red spread wider. And the last thing she remembers is pulling the small lever connected to Warpy.
To be continued...
