A/N: As a special thank you to all my readers, I am posting this chapter early. Hope you enjoy...
Chapter 4
"You sure you want to see this Sammy?" Dean asked as he sat a bowl of hearts on the counter.
"Yes, I've gotten used to the raw meats by now Dean. I want to see how you marinate them and I can do it for you too," Sam insisted as he drew in a short breath through his mouth so not to smell the odor of the raw meat.
"Suit yourself," Dean shrugged as he lined up the spices and herbs to go in the marinate. He took a bowl and started adding the ingredients and mixing them together. Dean smelled the mixture and let Sam smell before continuing. "Mia told me to put the hearts in a zip lock bag, sprinkle with the herbs and spices and pour the olive oil/Worcestershire sauce over that, close the bag and turn it to mix everything. Put it in the fridge and turn the bag every hour for four or five hours and let set overnight for it to be really good."
"Doesn't sound too hard to do," Sam nodded as he watched Dean. He saw he didn't drain the blood from the hearts and used it as extra liquid to help mix the dry ingredients. He was sure he could do this if he could just not think of the meat as hearts.
"There we go, in the fridge and it needs to be turned every hour or so until bedtime," Dean huffed wiping his hands before gathering the bottles and putting them in a cabinet out of the way. "I'm off to the garage."
"Alright, I'll be in Bobby's office," Sam told him grabbing his soda and following him into the other room. Dean headed out the door and Sam walked into the office and looked around until he spotted several boxes of books that had to be the new ones he was told about. Sam pulled a chair over and started to go through the box, checking out the titles to see if any interested him. He found several books that had references to werewolves and laid them aside to read. Sam had been studying and researching everything he could on werewolves, especially purebloods, so he would have a better understanding of his brother.
Sam never told Dean he was doing this research since he didn't want to upset him. He knew he could ask Dean anything, but he wanted to see what he could find on his own first so he would have knowledgeable questions to ask. He was lost in reading and didn't hear Dean and Bobby come back into the house, nor did he realize the time that had passed.
"What is your brother doing anyway?" Bobby asked Dean as they walked on into the kitchen.
"No idea. I figure he'll tell me when he wants me to know. I quit trying to figure him out a long time ago," Dean replied. "Want me to start a fresh pot of coffee?" Dean reached into the fridge and flipped the zip lock bag with his hearts in it.
"Fine with me. Do you have any plans for dinner tonight?"
"I think Sammy was going to do something, I'll go asked him."
Bobby watched Dean stroll from the room as his cell began to ring. He pulled it out and answered it.
"Singer," Bobby said.
"Bobby, it's Jed, are you busy?"
"Not at the moment, what's up Jed?"
"I could use a hand on a hunt. I'm in New England, North Dakota, and I think I'm out of my league on this one. There are folks dying around here, well, being eaten actually, and I can't figure out what's doing it. There's been five killings so far," Jed explained.
"Send me what you have, and I'll look over it tonight and head your way early in the morning. Where are you staying at?"
"Days Inn on the east side of town, room 14. Alright, I'll email you what I have and Bobby, make sure you come fully armed, this is a nasty one," Jed cautioned him.
"I'll bring some help with me and we'll be there as soon as we can," Bobby told him hanging up as Dean walked back into the room.
"We'll be where?" Dean asked with interest since he caught the last part of the one sided conversation.
"That was a hunter friend of mine," Bobby replied. "He needs help on a hunt. I thought you boys might like to tag along with me."
"I'm in."
"What's going on?" Sam asked seeing a look of excitement on his brother's face knowing something was up.
"We're going to help Bobby on a hunt Sammy."
"Cool, what is it?"
"Not sure, Jed called from New England, North Dakota. Says he caught a case that's got him stumped and people are dying. He's emailing me what he has so I can go over it before we leave in the morning, early."
"I better get dinner going since we may be having an early night," Sam said. He went to the fridge and started pulling out things from it.
"Don't touch my hearts, I just turned them," Dean cautioned him.
"Not touching them," Sam told him.
"I'm going to go see if Jed got the stuff sent yet," Bobby said.
"I'm going to bless some water and oil to replenish our stock. You got any extra silver bullets Bobby?" Dean asked.
"Check downstairs in the gun cabinet," Bobby called over his shoulder.
"When I get the chicken in the oven, I'm going to do our laundry," Sam told him.
"Mine is in the floor by my dresser."
"I know, you never have been able to hit the basket," Sam huffed.
"I was close," Dean shot back before heading down the steps to the basement.

Sam woke to Dean calling his name the next morning and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He glanced toward the window to see it was still dark outside and yawned widely before throwing back the covers and sitting up his feet getting chilled by the cold wood of the floor. He was glad that he took his shower last night and packed his duffle so all he had to do this morning was get dressed and head downstairs.
"I'm heading down, don't take all morning to get moving Sammy. You can sleep in the car," Dean told him.
"Give me fifteen and I'll be down," Sam mumbled as he got up and headed for the bathroom. Once he was done, he stepped back into the bedroom to dress, shivering slightly by the chill in the room. He quickly put on his clothes and boots and grabbed his duffle to follow Dean downstairs.
"Got coffee made if you wanna take a travel cup with you," Bobby said as Sam stepped into the kitchen.
"I figure we can grab some breakfast after we get on the road and when the sun comes up," Dean added pouring coffee into a travel cup.
"Okay," Sam nodded fixing his own coffee.
Once Sam had gotten his drink and Dean packed some meats in a cooler with ice packs, Bobby turned the coffee pot off and made sure the backdoor was locked as they headed for the front door and out to the Impala. He had already left extra food out for the dogs and if they were gone more than a couple of days would call his neighbor to come by and feed them. Sam stopped long enough in the living room to grab a blanket off the back of the couch to use in the car. He climbed into the back and let Bobby ride up front.
"You got the directions I printed out last night?" Bobby asked Dean as he settled in the passenger seat.
"Yep, looked them over, shouldn't be too hard to find the town."
"Any idea what we might be dealing with?" Sam asked from the back. He had looked at what Jed sent Bobby last night, but it didn't sound like anything they had dealt with before.
"No clue. Let's hope it doesn't kill again before we can get there," Bobby replied.
Sam stretched out in back and let the steady rocking of the car send him back into dreamland as Dean headed for the interstate to head north for North Dakota. Bobby and Dean spoke quietly for a bit as they sipped their coffee trying to plan on how to find the monster that was killing and eating people. Dean turned on the radio and found a station to his liking as he picked up the interstate. It was quiet in the car, except for the music playing and the occasional snoring coming from the backseat.
When Bobby saw Sam was sleeping soundly, he shifted slightly so he could face Dean.
"Sam told me he had a girl back at the Community," Bobby commented softly so not to wake Sam.
"Yeah, nice kid. She really seems to like Sammy and he likes her."
"Is that a good idea, him getting involved with a…With her?"
Dean didn't answer at first as he pondered Bobby's words.
"No one seemed concerned about it or Mason would have told me. Sammy's met Talia's brother and parents and they didn't have a problem with her seeing him. I mean, I don't know where the relationship is going, they go out on dates, but I don't think anything has happened that I know of. I'm sure I'd know if, you know, they did anything."
"I'm just concerned about your brother is all. It's still strange to think of you two there and Sam being the only human."
"It's okay Bobby. Maybe after this hunt we can go by there. We're not that far from the Community and you can look around and check it out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised."
"We'll see," Bobby noted thinking it was time he saw this place for himself. His boys were spending half their time there and he should check it out and get a feel for the place and the ones that lived there. He couldn't call them monsters or creatures, since they seemed more civilized than some humans.
"I'll need to stop for gas in another hour, might as well grab something to eat too."
"Sounds good to me. Maybe you can get your brother awake enough to eat," Bobby chuckled looking in the backseat at Sam who had curled into a ball to fit on the seat, with the blanket tucked tightly around him. He appeared so much younger when he slept, that it made Bobby think of when the boys were kids and would come stay with him while John hunted.

"Hey Sammy, wake up, we're stopping in a few miles to gas up and get something to eat," Dean called back to him as he reached an arm over the seat to shake him.
"Are we there yet?" Sam randomly asked as he tried to pull himself from the throes of sleep. He rubbed his eyes and stretched as best he could before sitting up and looking out the window to see the sun was up and it was light outside.
"Not hardly, we still have probably six hours yet to drive," Dean chuckled. He remembered Sam used to ask the same thing when he was young and would fall asleep in the back of the Impala. It was the first question out of his mouth when he woke.
"There's a truck stop up ahead we can stop at for gas and food. We can get the food to go and get back out on the road," Dean suggested. "I'm thinking we shouldn't waste any time getting to this town where Jed is."
"Fine with me," Bobby answered.
"The sooner we can get there, the sooner we can figure out what we're dealing with."
"How well do you know this hunter Bobby?" Dean questioned since he had only met him once a long time ago.
"He's a decent hunter, not as good as you boys, but he's acceptable," Bobby replied. "I've done a few hunts over the years with Jeb, and he follows orders and isn't a hot head. He usually hunts with Kent, but he got injured on their last hunt and is still out of commission. Jeb was checking the case out to see if it was our kind of thing and was going to call in help if he needed it."
"From what he sent last night, I'm glad he's smart enough to do that and not try to do it on his own," Sam commented from the back. "I tried to weed out the most likely monsters it couldn't be, but I didn't have a lot to go on."
"Hopefully, we can narrow it down when we get there and see if Jed has found anything else out," Dean offered. He moved over a lane as the exit he wanted got closer. Traffic was starting to pick up with people heading to work and Dean adjusted his speed and kept an eye on the vehicles around him.
This stop wouldn't take long, and they could be back on the highway in no time.
A/N: What will they find when they get to the town? Thanks for joining me on this journey. I do like reviews. NC
