CHAPTER FOUR
Purgatory, 1860:
"You stay away from us Evony Bishop, you aren't one of us. " Mary Jean Camper announced as the group with her agreed and mocked.
"I am too," Evony responded.
"No, you aren't, my Daddy says that everyone in town can continue to feel sorry for you but they all know your late Mother was a witch and you are too." She attacked.
"I'm not, Mary Jean!" Evony replied.
"Yes, you are."
"I'm not!" Evony shouted pushing Mary Jean. Suddenly Mary Jean fell hitting her head against a rock and laying there knocked out.
"Mary? MARY?" One of the other girls called out, bending down to check on her. "You killed her, you witch, you killed Mary." She said as everyone chanted "witch". Suddenly Evony ran away, as Mary lifted up with help rubbing her head.
Once Evony was far out of the town, she noticed the stairs in the woods. She began to walk towards them suddenly she heard a noise.
"Whoever's out there, show yourself?" She asked.
"If I were you, I'd stay away from those steps. You might be obliged to get hurt or fall off." A young teenage boy stated.
"Well you're not me," Evony added.
"I suppose I am not, figuring how pretty you are," he grinned.
"What's your name? I've never seen you before,"
"I'm Juan Carlos. Who are you?"
"My name is Evony but I reckon the people who love me the most, call me Eve." She added turning and walking away,
"So what do I call you?" Juan Carlos proposed.
"Evony..." She said grinning back at him. "For now." Once she was gone, Juan turned towards the trees,
"Nice try, Bulshar." Juan continued as he turned back into the woods.
Holding Room:
I remember seeing Waverly Earp's face...I've been there myself, a boy-man...Afrodite made me do it...The badge alone does not give authority...I thank goodness for that bulletproof vest...Home.
Nicole awoke still tied to her chair. Her thoughts stayed on the memories, trying every bit to hang on to them and not succumb to what the Evil spawn had mentioned. As she looked up, she found no longer Wynonna but Rachel.
"You know, you're one tough broad. Fighting to hold onto memories that will undoubtedly be erased soon." She said walking around the room a bit.
"Waverly, Wynonna, Doc, Rachel, Nedley, Jeremy." Nicole began to murmur to herself in a whisper.
"Saying their names...how cute. Too bad you will break and they will all be distant memories."
"So, is that all you've got, keeping me here, making me lose my memories which won't happen." Nicole strongly suggested.
"Look at you, trying to figure out my plan, probably desperately wanting to know who I am and what I'm doing. Is that from your police training?" She replied snarkily.
"Watch too many cop shows I presume?" Nicole added.
"Maybe...I remember one, where the bad guy captured the do-gooder and erased their memories for good." She came over to Nicole. "Have you seen it?" She paused. "No...well watch as it happens live."
BBD:
"Well, do we know if the doors have even been open?" Waverly asked.
"I mean the doorway showed up and who's to say someone came through?" Nicole added.
"You're correct. We would have registered some signs just like the stairs." Jeremy added.
"So we guard it, monitor it," Wynonna replied.
"Well, I haven't been a consistent Sunday school goer but if we are dealing with that Eve why would she be anxious to get into Purgatory?" Nedley replied as everyone pondered.
"To make me suffer," Waverly replied as everyone looked at her.
"I highly doubt..."Wynonna began.
"Wynonna, you weren't there when she was freed. She...Nicole's doppelgänger" Waverly said looking at Nicole. "Said it herself."
"Well if that's the case then she is going to have one hell of a fight on her hands," Wynonna added.
"Yeah, I'm the shield, my job is to serve and protect all of Purgatory and especially you," Nicole responded as Waverly smiled at her and kissed her cheek.
"So Jeremy, you're on monitor detail. Haught, protection detail, with Doc, Nedley, and me. Rachel, Mercedes you know what to do."
"Alice," Rachel responded.
"Yeah." Wynonna finished. "we all have our assignments, so let's go," Wynonna replied.
"We just have one more thing to do," Jeremy replied. He went over to his desk, he grabbed a medallion. "Welcome back Special Agent Earp," Jeremy added holding out Wynonna's old badge as everyone looked at Wynonna with smiles.
"Yeah...that's not happening," Wynonna said leaving out the room leaving everyone confused.
Purgatory, 1870:
A now older Juan Carlos kissed a now older Evony gently on the forehead as she laid against his bare chest in a small cabin.
"I'm beginning to think this is your way of avoiding my requests," Evony replied looking at him as she tapped his chest.
"Oh, you mean the request to make an honest woman out of you."
"That and other things."
"Eve, I plan to give you the world. I just need to take care of this one thing."
"You always have just one thing but I need one thing," she said lifting.
"Evony, those townsfolk don't make you, you don't need their approval."
"And you don't understand," Evony demanded. "I've lived with that for all my life. The calls, the names, never being accepted, never getting invited, never just being one of them. If that's something you can't give me then."
"Then what?" Juan Carlos asked.
"Then we can't do this, I can't do this." Suddenly Evony lifted and grabbed her clothes...
"Eve?" Juan Carlos called out.
"No, I can't." She said leaving out of the room.
"Evony?" He called again. As Evony walked out of the cabin fully clothed, she headed into the woods, suddenly she heard a crack of branches.
"Juan, leave me alone."
"Oh, I am not Juan." A voice said from behind her. As she turned, she stopped.
"Sheriff Clootie?"
"At your service, child."
"Oh no service needed, I was heading back home."
"To town? The town that at times hasn't been the best to you."
"What?" Evony said in a whisper.
"Child, I'm the Sheriff, I have witnessed many things and I have seen some of the people in town treat you rudely. I understand your plight. Think about it, I am an outsider elected official. The many faces and taunts I received are well less than that of yourself. "
"They think because of my Mother and Father, I am this bad seed but I'm not."
"You aren't. You aren't at all." Bulshar added. "Hmmm, you remind me of my wife, Constance. She was just like you as well until I spoiled her in riches and you see how she is."
"Yes, she is absolutely beautiful."
"And you can have that too."
"What?"
"What if I told you, I would be willing to help you. That you could finally live up to the person you want to be, and those folks won't be able to hurt you. You can change your destiny and make them feel the pain you felt."
"Really?"
"I have sort of a soft spot for women who others can't see as precious jewels."
"You see me as a precious jewel?"
"Yes, one that shall unlock the doors of change."
"Ok," Evony replied taking Bulshar's hand as they left.
BBD:
"Xavier Dolls," Doc announced as Wynonna stood on the concord overlooking Ghost River.
"What?"
"It was Xavier Dolls, who appointed you and it was Xavier Dolls who knew what he was doing when he did it," Doc added.
"Just like Wyatt?" Wynonna added.
"Yes." Doc conceded. "Except in Wyatt and I's case when the time came for me to step up, I failed him. Ended up in a well, ended up dead, in hell, and as a vampire. Then I was given another chance. Now, I have an awesome daughter, sister, sisters-in-law, little brothers, and a beautiful wife who is a natural-born leader."
"I'm not a leader anymore, I'm not even a gunslinger even Wyatt said that. "Wynonna replied.
"Wyatt?"
"About a month ago, I started having these dreams where Wyatt visits me. Although there just dreams they seem so real."
"Sweetheart," Doc replied grazing her cheek. "A gunslinger you may not be, but a leader is in your DNA. The curse may be over but the pride that lives in the stories of Wyatt Earp carries weight. I just watched you take on your grandpappy's demeanor and establish roles for everyone. I also know that since we've been back you've missed it. Well, we have a war approaching against a foe that has an upper hand. If anything, I trust your leadership and will proudly follow you. As well as those back in there, who are waiting for you to take that badge back." Doc added. As silence presented itself, Wynonna smiled.
"I hear ya," Wynonna added.
"Solid speech John Henry." A voice replied. Suddenly, Wynonna and Doc looked over to find Kate standing near the entrance.
Purgatory, 1870 ( Day of Summer Solstice)
"Eve, why?" Juan Carlos said as Eve stood near Bulshar.
"He promised me..."
"Nothing, he promised you nothing, he is just as fallen as you. He only needs you for one thing. Evony, if you go I cannot protect you." Juan Carlos responded,
"I'm not fallen, I'm finally going to be able to be taken seriously, I will finally have the same as them, I will finally show them,"
"You won't. If you go, you won't," Juan Carlos cried out.
"You must go girl, now," Bulshar said as Constance stood watching from afar. Evony began to walk up the stairs, as she reached midway a bright light shined. She looked into it and smiled.
"Momma, Daddy." She said with tears in her eyes, as she continued she looked back at Juan Carlos, immediately she stopped as vines came out of the door wrapping around her.
"Juan?" She called out, as he ran over, the force field kept him away.
"Evony!" He yelled back.
"JUAN CARLOS!" She screamed one last time, immediately she was gone. Suddenly the portal shut and now stood Julian. As Bulshar looked up, he fell to his knees at the sight of Julian and his wings.
"You will not enter!" Julian yelled as everything blew back. When the dirt cleared, Bulshar and Constance were gone but Juan Carlos remained. "She has chosen her side, she will never be freed," Julian replied as Juan Carlos dropped his head.
"Bulshar must die." Juan Carlos added.
