Summary: An AU about Nami getting a pet cat.
He hated it.
He didn't know why but he did.
He hated whenever he saw the orange ball of fluffiness make itself comfortable on her lap. Zoro was a territorial man but lately it seemed like he had a newfound competitor fighting for the same thing.
Nami.
Now one thing about Zoro is that he never loses, never. Yet even Zoro could admit that he was on the losing side when it came to a challenge called 'Affection'. It had all started 3 weeks ago in that damn pet store. He remembered Nami pointing it out and Zoro really tried to get Nami out of buying a pet. But once she had her eyes set on something, it was too late.
They walked in and were welcomed by lots of animal sounds and a soothe chiming bell sound from the door. An elderly woman greeted them and hoped they would find whatever they were looking for. Zoro and Nami spent an hour looking through a lot of pets but none of them seemed to catch Nami's eye. Zoro congratulated a little early when Nami said that she didn't think she found what she was looking for until her eyes set on it.
There it was, an orange and white kitten sleeping soundlessly in it's cage. Nami's face brightened in a way that only Zoro saw on very rare occasions. Nami got closed to it and it's ear flickered, as if it sensed her presence. Zoro got a feeling of doom build within his stomach when Nami asked if she could play with the kitten for a bit.
They played for 20 minutes.
Zoro sat there grumpily waiting and hoping that Nami would lose interest in the cat at some point. Zoro had to fight back a complaint when he saw Nami return with a orange carrier with the kitten inside. The only thing that stopped him from doing so was Nami's very happy face. It was practically beaming with happiness, how could he say no? When she got in the car, she started telling Zoro about all of the fun times she would plan with the kitten. He wouldn't lie, he loved to see Nami happy, but there was just one tiny problem. She stated that she would have fun but...
Only with the kitten.
During the weeks, It's only been about the kitten. Whenever Zoro tried to be with Nami, she would make up some excuse involving the kitten. Whether it was asleep on her lap or if she forgot to feed it. Hell, even in bed the cat was there. Nami would snuggle up with it along with taking the blanket.
Now It's not like Zoro tried to be friendly with the cat, he really tried. Yet for some reason, the cat seemed to hate his entire existence. He would get close to it and it would hiss and scratch at him. It would then attract Nami and somehow he would get a scolding for it.
"Maybe if you didn't have such a scary face then maybe it would be more friendly to you,' was her reason. Now whenever Zoro saw that fluffy piece of orange evil, he would be met with a hiss along with those demon-looking green eyes. Zoro did have to admit though, somehow in between those 3 weeks, he was able to find some comfort with Nami. They would hang like they usually would and do things at night as usual. It didn't change the fact that she still spent most of her free time playing with the kitten though. Sometimes she would offer to him to join her but the damn cat's mood always soured when I just got close to it.
In the end, I settled with just this silent agreement with the cat that we would both have Nami at some points. We were a week in our silent agreement until one day the cat did something unforgivable. One day, when Zoro and Nami were on a date, they had arrived back and guess what the cat did?
It shit on Kuina's sword.
At that moment, everything snapped. Nami must've known because she soon stood in front of me and took the cat's side.
"Nami what the hell?! You know how much that sword means to me!" I yelled in her face. She had her hands on my chest and usually I would've liked that sensation if it wasn't blinded by my rage.
"Zoro! It's just a kitten! Surely even you can understand that right?!" Nami said pleadingly. I glanced back at the kitten in question and it looked at me with those damn green eyes. It stretched as if it wasn't even aware of the sin it just commited in our apartment.
At the end of the day, the cat got off scot-free and it was all because of Nami. I was lying in my bed looking up at the ceiling while Nami was giving a scolding to the cat.
Even though all he heard were those damn giggles and coos of hers, damn traitor.
He cursed his luck, Nami knew how much the blade meant to him but she still sought after the cat. The cat should've been punished but instead it got even more affection from Nami during her so called 'scolding'. He heard the door open and Nami walked in in her nightgown. He refused to look at her, not after she betrayed him today.
"Zoro," she said. He ignored her, no way was she getting his attention that easily.
"Zoro," she said a bit more sternly this time. He swore that if he got the scolding instead of that damn cat. He noticed that she stopped calling his name and felt the bed shift, as if more weight was being placed on it. She didn't say anything, just stayed there in a somewhat awkward silence. He felt her turn over and place her hand on his left pectoral. She brought her face closer to his ear and slightly nibbled on it.
Zoro flinched at that, he knew she was aware that he was somewhat sensitive on his ear area and how much he disliked it when she did that.
"Zoro," she said, knowing he was awake now.
"What the hell do you want Witch, can't you see I'm trying to sleep here..." Zoro said turning his back on her. She giggled playfully while Zoro humphed in defiance.
"Zorooo~," she said playfully.
"If you want to bug someone why don't you just go bug that damn cat you like so much..." Zoro grumbled. As soon as the sentence escaped his mouth, he regretted it.
"You're still sulking about that? Honestly Zoro you should know that I would never choose a cat over you, you're too precious," she said placing her cheek on my shoulder. I couldn't help but scoff at her display.
"That's hard to believe when it seems like you're spending every second you can with the kitten," Zoro countered. There was a pause of awkward silence.
...
"...Zoro...are you, jealous?" She said seriously. My eye opened up and I looked at her as if she suddenly turned into Sanji.
"What?!" I said a bit loudly. The end of her mouth soon slowly went upward and soon she began to smile, while trying to fight it down.
"Zoro...are you seriously jealous of a cat?" She said suppresing her amusement but failing terribly at it. I felt my cheeks grow warm a bit and refused to answer her.
Bad move.
"Oh my god you are jealous!" She said covering her mouth, trying to quiet down her very obvious giggles.
"Witch I am not jealous," I said at last.
"Hai hai, sure you aren't Zoro," she said suggestively. I finally turned to look at her to sea that she was slowly pulling down her nightgown to reveal her very gifted body to me.
"How about I make it up to you?" She said striding her hands up her sides.
That night, Nami made sure she knew that she still cared about me.

- Zoro Pov -
I woke up feeling Nami's warm body next to mine. It seemed that we fell asleep after our late night activities and there was a familiar, but annoring, pawing and meowing at the door of our room.
I looked over and saw Nami was still deep in her sleep, it was Saturday which meant we had the day to ourselves. I had an idea pop into my head. After Nami had very clearly reminded how much she loved me, I thought about something.
How about I make it up to her?
I pried myself off from Nami's grasp and she moaned a bit in discomfort. I mumbled a silent apology but she stayed asleep. I very quietly walked over to the door and opened it quietly. The kitten walked in and in an instant, I bent down and scooped it up with one hand. It immediately hissed when it realized who grabbed it but I used my other hand to clasp my hand over it's mouth.
Nami quietly moaned in her sleep and I looked back at the cat, silently scolding it for almost waking up Nami.
I quietly closed the door behind me and the cat was viciously attacking the hand over it's mouth. I will admit, it did sting a bit but it would take more than a bit of stinging to remove my grasp. I walked over to the kitchen and once I thought that we were far enough, I put the kitten back on the floor. It looked up at me expectantly for some reason. It didn't hiss this time, just stayed there looking at me. I didn't care, as long as it didn't claw or hiss at me, I wouldn't complain. I recalled Nami would feed this thing in the morning and if I remembered correctly...bingo!
I opened the cupboard and saw a can of tuna already opened. It was halfway full and I daintly remembered Nami telling me that 4 spoonfuls would be sufficient for the cat. I picked up her bowl of the ground and she jumped on my leg.
"Son of a...!" I started when I felt it dig it's claws in. It meowed at me and I flexed my leg to try and ease the pain a bit. I was on my way to my 4th spoonful until it began to scratch repeatedly. Holy shit did that hurt.
It took all my willpower just to not kick the damn thing. It meowed constantly and I genuinely did not see whatever Nami saw in this thing, it was a demon! After placing the 4th spoonful in It's bowl, I picked it up and placed it on the floor near it. It immediately began to gobble it up and that's when I noticed 2 things.
Another empty bowl and a shit. I groaned and grabbed a wipe to clean the shit until I stepped on something...
wet.
Please dear god no.
I hesitantly lifted up my foot and looked down at the ground and oh.
I stepped in pee.
I had to bite back my groan and I could've sworn I almost killed the cat from my thoughts alone. I wiped my foot and then wiped the floor where the demon pissed. I threw it away and grabbed another wipe to pick up the poop the cat had so generously gifted. I threw it away and picked up the bowl to refill it. I turned on the sink and while cleaning my hands, filled up the bowl with water.
"Hmmm, this is a nice surprise to wake up to," said a now awake, but tired, Nami. I looked up at her and noticed she was wearing her now wrinkled nightgown from last night. That's when the cat finished It's food. It sprinted across the kitchen and began to rub itself on Nami's legs. This time, I didn't get angry or jealous at the cat making contact with Nami's skin. Instead, I smiled a bit and then placed the cat's water bowl back on the ground.
'If you can't beat em, join em,' Zoro thought looking back at the cat. It looked back at him but not with eyes of hate, instead, it was a look of newfound trust.
A/N: Another chapter done, I hoped you liked this short AU. I have not forgotten about my other stories, in fact, they are all almost getting new chapters. I might even make a new story and it'll finally not be a M-rated one. I hope you look forward to the next chapter of this one, cya. Also I just loved this idea.
All grammar mistakes belong to me and I apologize for it.
PS: Thank you Lirycs-OP. It's nice to get recognition from you and I apologize for the grammar mistakes. I will try harder to notice them in the future.
