Disclaimer: I don't own Hunter x Hinter
Meruem looked at each of them, trembling from his presence and faces filled with fear. Yet there was one amongst this group of villagers that stood out the most, a Chimera Ant. It was a sight that confused Meruem, a human guarding an ant when both the roles and the situation should be reversed. He lifted a hand and pointed one finger directly at the Ant.
"You, why are you letting a weak human protect you?" he asked sternly. The Ant he pointed at was easily the most frightened in the village, having understood who he is and had a built-in instinct to obey him.
"I-I-I" she stammered.
"Because I am a mother who failed to protect her once!" the woman standing in front of her said.
"Mother..." Shidore whimpered. Meruem gazed at the mother intensely who spoke out of place.
"Mother?"
"That's right, you...you Monsters put my daughter through torture and turned her into one of you! I can never forgive you for what you've done! What you've done to her!" the mother shouted as her eyes filled with tears. Meruem slowly walked up to her, making his eyes bore into hers to assert his presence and instill pressure in her system. She flinched but she held her ground. Meruem looked up at her and into her eyes, searching for answers. Once he received them, in one swift move, he grabbed Shidore and pointed two fingers by her neck.
"REINA!!!" the mother shouted worried. The villagers didn't even notice and the moment they did they tensed up. They all turned around quickly to see Meruem holding Reina by her head, digging his fingers into her neck.
"Seeing as you are all humans, I wish to gather information from all of you. However, I got the impression you wouldn't tell me anything less I used leverage, " he eyed them all, noticing their stiffness tone down a bit.
"Very well, I wish to know about the outside world, " he stated. He noticed the crestfallen looks cast on their faces.
"We're afraid...we cannot provide you with an answer for that." Meruem frowned upon hearing that.
An answer like that was completely Unacceptable.
He released a wave of Nen, focusing a bit on the tips of his fingers which slightly pierced Reina's neck.
"Explain yourself and explain yourself well. There better be a damn good reason as to why you can't, " Meruem uttered darkly. The villagers' hands trembled with fright, understanding fully well that they were in the presence of something beyond them. They trembled so much that some of them lost their grip on their weapons.
"W-W-We can't tell you because the country you're in has completely s-shut itself off from the rest of the world! W-We've got no access to any other countries and technology is forbidden in this country!" a man explained. Meruem gazed at him, taking everything he said into consideration. He briefly thought about how these humans kept themselves isolated exactly as he wanted and had planned something like this at the end of his battle with Netero.
"How do I know you're not lying to me? Everything you said sounds far too convincing to be true, " Meruem asked. If they failed to provide an answer with proof within the next 5 seconds, he would kill them all right here.
"You can search every one of us! You can search our houses, our clothes, anything! Not one of us has any access to the world around us!" One pleaded.
"Too long, " '4'
"Just fly over to the entrance of this island! There are rules there that can be explained to you in detail to the south!"
"I want an answer from you, " '3'
"But what you're demanding is completely unreasonable! You're just behaving like a child throwing a tantr-SHLIKKKK-" the man's body fell forward as Meruem suddenly appeared next to him; swinging his tail to swiftly cut his head off.
"Know you're place, trash, " '2'

He raised his tail and bent his knees-
"I HAVE A BOOK!" an old woman cried out of nowhere. In a vain attempt to meet his demands, she resorted to an unlikely option. Judging from the answer he gave to their first offer, she figured her effort was futile but she got the feeling to say something at the very least.
But the King was relatively interested in reading.
"...I see, I'll read through it and I will decide if I shall kill you all or not if it's true, " Meruem said as he relaxed his body. The woman shook uncontrollably when he approached her slowly, reaching his hand out upon arrival.
"Well then? Let me see it."
"Y-yes!" she hurried off back to her home, retrieving the book and rushing back to the King. He grabbed it and flipped through the pages, reading about the history of the island known as NGL. He placed his index finger on his chin, pupils following every word after one another. The people looked at him warily, unconsciously holding their breaths in. One person who assumed the King would be too invested in his reading figured it left him unguarded, it resulted in his quick death.
The King put the book down on the ground, finally releasing his hold on Reina. She returned to her mother instantly and sobbed incoherent words. Interesting.
"I shall leave you all in peace now, I wish to aspire to travel to the outside world but I am afraid I require a disguise for concealing my identity. You will meet my demands in a minute. Should you fail, I will slaughter all of you," with a wag of his tail, he ordered them off to give him some spare clothes.
They returned with various clothing's, most being large cloaks or blankets. Some with shirts, socks, pants, hats, etc. Meruem looked at them curiously, some being too big for his size, though that would probably look for the better. He settled for grabbing two blankets and a hat. The hat was very large, completely made of straw and the edges were left untied making the straw sticks stick out. The blankets he chose were the biggest, one being navy blue and the other being light pink.
He demanded scissors and upon receiving them, ordered them to cut the blankets into various shapes.
...
Once they were finished, he told them to sew a few of the pieces together. Upon completion, Meruem had done all that to combine both blankets with sleeves. He tried it on and wrapped the blankets around himself until it looked like a toddler burrito wrapped with multiple layers. There were two holes that Meruem purposely left, the ones on his back muscles where his wings could spread.
Meruem looked in a mirror the villagers had provided beforehand and compared his disguise to the rest of the humans. He was satisfied with how his disguise turned out, he figured he was ready for the outside world. He turned to them.
"...Well, I shall leave this place once and for all, farewell, " and with that, he disappeared off to search for more answers from the outside world in his disguise.
