Speech - Cyril

Thoughts - Cyril

Neo - 『Cyril』

"How was she?"

"Roman, I don't think you should be here. Were you waiting outside for me?" Cyril said. He was more interested in the book in front of him more than whatever Roman had to say to him.

"I couldn't let Cinder have too much fun with my favourite person, could I now?"

"Flattering. Though, I'd advise you that you don't do it again. You're the most wanted man in vale, you can't be making these kinds of trips to me." He nagged. "I'm surprised your assistant didn't warn you about something so obvious."

"You say this every time and I've yet to be caught. You're far too paranoid." Roman assured. "And Neo here isn't my assistant, she's my partner. She deserves respect." He ordered, while pointing at the young girl next to him. She seemed to be more focused on the surrounding paintings, so she didn't bother turning around.

"But really, don't come here without warning me first."

"You seem like you're in an awfully good mood! Did things go well?" Roman asked, completely ignoring what Cyril had said before.

"It was fine. We spoke and went for a walk. She wanted help with a few things so I'll have to deal with that." Cyril yawned. Roman came quite late, and Cyril wasn't in the mood to be talking.

"And what exactly does she need?"

"My lips are sealed on that. What kind of information broker would I be if I blurted out everything I'm told?"

"A bad one." Roman sighed in defeat. "How's your project going?"

"Fantastic, I've been meaning to thank you, actually. Everything is running smoothly, and no one suspects a thing." Cyril said with the first signs of enthusiasm in the entire conversation.

"Anything new you need to tell me?"

"Nothing interesting. Beacon is relatively quiet and there's nothing you should concern yourself with." Cyril noticed Neo touching his collection of paintings. Cyril wondered if she didn't see the clear "do not touch" sign, but ignored it.

"Keep up with the excellent work. Anyway, back to my question. What did you think of her?"

"She's an interesting lady. She has a way of saying things that make them much more alluring."

"Don't tell me you fell for her grandiose plans and ideals?" Roman said in a disappointed tone.

"No, I'm not an idiot. It was clear she has plans other than her so-called revolution. You can tell the way someone is just by looking at their face and Cinder is as greedy as you can get. I'm just interested in what could happen if she succeeds."

"Thank you for letting me know. You know the White Fang- " Before he could continue, his scroll buzzed in his pocket. "A moment, please."

While Roman dealt with that, Cyril began to reflect on the what he'd be told today, specifically his goal. How was he supposed to get to Ozpin? He was high on the gravity of the moment, so he didn't process it as much as he'd like. Beacon wasn't some place you could just walk in to, Security was tight and comprised of Huntsmen who were far beyond his ability. He could handle himself in a regular fight, but he knows he'd lose against trained huntsmen. Cyril's skill-set wasn't suited to physical combat at all. If he had to kill someone, then he'd want to do it as quietly and covertly as possible.

As much as Cyril wanted to go personally, his mind reminded him of his fears of being caught. He needed someone he could trust, someone who he knew could get the job done no matter what. His eyes wondered to the girl in the Corner of the store.

She was perfect.

"Cyril, I'd ask that you stop staring at my partner, but young love is something I won't interfere in." Roman said, breaking the eerie silence. "However, I didn't take you for one to go for shorter girls."

"it's nothing like that!"

"You know, when you're not acting weird, you're much easier to get under your skin. Which is a good thing I suppose?"

"Let me borrow her. It's not like she's doing much with you anyway." Cyril said.

"Need her for your job? And Neo here is a great help with my robberies. Isn't that right Neo?" He asked.

Neo didn't take her eyes off the paintings, but placed a thumbs up.

"What's a few weeks going to do? Is the greatest crime boss in Vale scared he'll fail if he's without his assistant?"

It was in times like these where Cyril loved his semblance. The inducement of doubt in a victim was completely unbeaten once planted into the human mind. It relied on Cyril's voice to be activated and it was completely indiscriminate based on strength. Weak or strong, there would always be a voice in your head contradicting every thought you have. This came useful for persuasions or, in more extreme circumstances, the destruction of the mind.

If the mind is two, as Cyril believes, then his semblance forces the two sides of a human to go against each other. Good against bad, black against white and logic against emotion! It was an internal battle in which Cyril didn't have to lift a finger to start. When you fight against yourself, then the fight has already been lost.

Cyril noticed that Roman's grip tightened around his cane, but it eventually weakened. "This is like taking a father from his daughter, you know? Reminds me so much of the divorce."

"You owe me anyway." Cyril finally shut the book in his hand. "Maybe this'll be my chance to see if she's as good as you say"

"We work better as a team, but Neo is as good as you can get."

"Perfect. Of course I won't force her to help me, I'll leave it up to her."

"It was never up to you and I in the first place." He stated. Neo decided to finally get away from the paintings and stood by Roman's side in front of the counter. "What do you think, Neo?"

Her face fell into a thinking pose, which was clearly fake, and she tapped her foot on the carpet beneath her. After a few seconds of waiting, she finally nodded her head.

"The decision is final." It clearly displeased him. There was no attempt to hide it. "Cyril, I'll be leaving Neo in your care. If anything happens to her, you'll pay with your li- " Before he could finish Neo delivered swift justice which came in the form of an elbow to the side.

"Thank you, Neo. I promise I won't make you do anything you're not capable of." Cyril said.

"I think it's time we get going, my hearts been broken enough tonight I don't think I can take anymore." Roman said in the most painful voice he could muster.

"Come back tomorrow morning!"

The last thing he saw was a raised middle finger from the two criminals.

The following morning Cyril found Neo again, gazing at the paintings with a scroll in her hand as usual.

It was clear she loved them, so he let her admire them. The painting she was looking at was quite a classic, dating back to the days of before the great war. It was used to poke fun at people who couldn't see the obvious war that was looming over them. It depicted 4 fat men who were sitting round on a field surrounded by flowers, but when you looked outside the field; the weapons of war were being made.

"You like these paintings?" He said while giving her an apron just like his. "I'd have thought you'd like abstract art given the way you dress." This only got him a stamp on the foot, but it was worth it.

She took the apron with a snatch and raised her scroll and began to furiously type away. After a few seconds, she raised the screen to Cyril's face and made him read it. 『You don't dress any better than me. You dress as if you're having a midlife crisis』

It took a while for Cyril to read it all, mostly because he didn't have his reading glasses. "When I have to babysit yourself and Roman, it isn't much of a surprise, is it?" He glanced over the scroll and she was already dressed. It was quite a nice addition if he had to say so himself, but his taste in fashion had already been criticised already so he didn't say anything. "Follow me."

Neo didn't walk. No, she skipped. It just made Cyril weird to see her skip wherever she went, but he chalked it up to keeping appearances of being a killer you wouldn't expect.

"We are going to break into Beacon." Cyril stated..

Neo's face morphed into that of a shocked one, and a laugh from Cyril quickly changed it back to normal. "Why else would I need you? Your semblance is perfect for both infiltration and disguises. I was going to do a few things myself but then Roman strolled into the store and I couldn't let the chance away. I truly do believe you're the only person who can pull this of perfectly. It'll be our piece of art."

『You're crazy. I like it.』

"I'm not crazy. I'm just a man with a plan. While I could get into Beacon one way or another, It'd be too time-consuming plus this entire thing is right up your alley." Cyril said as he finally got behind the counter.

Neo decided to lift herself up and sat on the counter and struck her thinking pose.

"Think of it as a part of my project. Your mission is to get into Ozpin's office and plant these." Cyril took out a black cube which had a keyhole on the very top of it. "Inside there are listening devices which are tiny and a bigger, but still small, video recorder."

『If you have a camera, why do you need listening devices?』

"Good question. Essentially think of it as safety. If the bigger camera is found then my eyes in the room are gone but if the smaller listening devices aren't found then I still have my ears in the room. Try to hide them as inconspicuously as possible."

Neo clearly frowned at this, but typed a response. 『So what's the plan?』

"It's simple." Cyril said, while placing a knife on the table. "We kill a student."

Authors note:

Just wanna clarify this chapters events happen Right after Cinder and Cyril's talk.

Woah, I think like 300 more people read the story which is kinda crazy. I hope you're all enjoying it and if you're not please be as honest as you'd like with what I'm doing wrong, this is a learning process after all and I'd like to better my self in the future, if I don't learn anything from then it's been kinda useless.

I always planned for Cyril and Neo to break into Beacon to deliver the plan but this chapters original draft did include Cinder going to Emerald and Mercury but I cut it out. I also just decided to drop his semblance which is doubt inducement, makes them feel powerless. I'll expand on it later.

As always, Till next time.
